Transcript of Digestive System Label And Function
Human Digestive System
Carries food from mouth to stomach
thick muscular wall adapted for transport not digestion
oesophagus stomach small intestine
muscular sac inner layer produces enzymes
involved in storing and digesting food
proteins digested here glands produce mucus long muscular tube
mucus prevents enzymes digesting this organ
food digested by enzymes produced in walls and by glands that pour secretions in
the inner walls are folded into villi
villi produce a large surface area
surface area of villi increased by microvilli on epithelial cells of each villus
this increase of surface area means this organ is adapted for absorbing products of digestion into blood stream
Large Intestine Rectum Salivary glands
Pancreas water is absorbed here found near the mouth
food that leaves here is dry and thick and forms faeces
faeces are stored before being periodically expelled by anus through egestion
reabsorbed water mostly comes from secretions of digestive glands
pass secretions through a duct into the mouth
secretions contain the enzyme amylase
amylase breaks down starch to maltose
this is a large gland found below the stomach
produces pancreatic juice
this secretion contains proteases to digest proteins, lipase to digest lipids and amylase to digest starch
