Natural Selection • Natural is something made
by nature• Nature decides the
organisms with the best traits to survive and reproduces
Artificial Selection • Artificial is selective
breeding by humans• Humans decides who/what
lives or dies based traits they find more desirable
• They hope its offspring will produce the same traits as well.

Homologous Structures
• Homologous structures: structures with different appearances and functions that all derived from the same body part in a common ancestor
• The bones in the forelimb of mammals are homologous structures
• Different functions, same ancestor structure

– Analogous structures have a similar function.– Analogous structures are not evidence of a
common ancestor.
