Riverbend’s award-winning camp staff is made up of a team of experienced park naturalists, teachers, college interns, and volunteers. Adapted Potomac Adventures
This camp, designed for persons with disabilities, offers adventures along the Potomac River, including boating, fishing and hiking. Campers 8-12 years old visit the Watermine Swimmin’ Hole while campers 13-20 visit a zip line and ropes course. Campers must be able to take care of personal needs and be successful in a 5 to 1 ration. Transportation will be provided from Riverbend to all activities off site.

This is Riverbend Park’s third year providing adapted recreation programs. These are planned and staffed by experienced staff in coordination with the inclusion office. We feature a higher staff to camper ratio and increased flexibility with activities planned.
Camps at Riverbend Park
Primitive Teachings Can you survive in the woods? Learn hands-on essential living skills including track-ing, building shelters, building small traps, fire-making, archery and tool making. Also learn primitive arts such as beading, firing clay, and making baskets. Younger camp-ers are introduced to a variety of skills while experienced campers focus on master-ing skills and working on complex projects. Campers will create their own primitive tool or basket to bring home!
Primitive Beginnings (6-9 years) Begin developing earth skills through nature awareness, free play, archery, learning to build friction fires and more. Focus will be on skill building and outdoor play.

Boy Scout Merit Badge Camp (11-17 yrs) Scouts will work on completing their Fishing, Kayaking and Canoeing Merit Badges during camp. Our experienced Merit Badge counselors provide instruction for all elements of the merit badges.
Fishing Adventures (12-15 years) Fish from shore and boats using spinning tackle. Enjoy a float trip by kayak for smallmouth bass on the Potomac River, a chartered fishing trip on the Chesapeake Bay (last day of camp runs 6:30am-4pm for trip).

Paddle Away Camp (11-14 yrs.) What could be a better than a week on the scenic Potomac River by kayak, canoe and paddleboard? Learn basic and advanced boating skills with our experienced instructors while having fun with races, relays and scavenger hunts. No experience necessary. All safety equipment provided.

Potomac Adventures Explore the Potomac by land, air and sea! During this weeklong adventure, campers sample a variety of thrills. Enjoy rock climbing, kayaking, tubing, ropes courses, rafting, kayaking and more at different ar-eas along the river. Junior Adventurers enjoy rock climbing, canoeing, tubing and hiking. Freshwater Fishing Fun (8-12 years) Gain knowledge and practice in freshwater fishing using a variety of tackle. Fish the parks pond and river for sunfish, catfish and bass. Learn how to rig and use a fishing rod, safety and the importance of catch and release fishing, all while having fun. Bring a rod or borrow one from us. No camp on July 4.
