1. Terminology: The following terminology will be used in this study and is based upon the Hebrew origins of the Scripture and will open up a bit of depth in our understanding of certain aspects of the Word which is lost through our English translations of the Bible. Yahweh or YHVH – translated in the English Bibles as LORD and is the Name of God that God gave Moses at the burning bush. This Name means; “He is who He is” coming from the first person Name “I Am that I AmY’shua or Yehusuah – The Hebrew Name of our Savior which is translated to Greek as Ieosus and transliterated from Greek to English as Jesus in the English Bible. Ieosus means “God of Healing”. The reason is that there is no “Y” in Greek and the closest sound was the “I”. The Name Y’shua means; “Yahweh is my Salvation” and this Name underlines that He is our Savior as prophesied in Scripture. Messiah – Translated as Christ in the English Bible and comes form the Greek word Christos which means “Anointed One” and this is also the Hebrew meaning of Messiah or pronounced as “Massiach”.

description

Many Christians think that Jesus came to abolish the Law or the Torah and that Paul supported Him in this. This is causing conflicts within Scripture and causes confusion.

11.. TTeerrmmiinnoollooggyy:: The following terminology will be used in this study and is based upon the Hebrew origins of the Scripture and will open up a bit of depth in our understanding of certain aspects of the Word which is lost through our English translations of the Bible.

• Yahweh or YHVH – translated in the English Bibles as LORD and is the Name of God that God gave Moses at the burning bush. This Name means; “He is who He is” coming from the first person Name “I Am that I Am”

• Y’shua or Yehusuah – The Hebrew Name of our Savior which is translated to Greek as Ieosus and transliterated from Greek to English as Jesus in the English Bible. Ieosus means “God of Healing”. The reason is that there is no “Y” in Greek and the closest sound was the “I”. The Name Y’shua means; “Yahweh is my Salvation” and this Name underlines that He is our Savior as prophesied in Scripture.

• Messiah – Translated as Christ in the English Bible and comes form the Greek word Christos which means “Anointed One” and this is also the Hebrew meaning of Messiah or pronounced as “Massiach”.

• Elohim – Translated as God in the English Bible; it is the Name of God which means; Messenger, Judge and Ruler/King and are the attributes of Y’shua.

• TaNaK or Scriptures– This is the “correct” term for the English translation “Old Testament”. The “Old Testament” implies that there was only one “Old Covenant” and one “New Covenant”, but there are many “Covenants” written in the TaNaK or Scriptures and the term “Old Testament” is incorrect in it’s application. The TaNaK is the collation of all the Books known to the people in Y’shua’s time and are the Torah (first 5 Books of the Scripture), the Nevi-im (the Prophets) and the Kevotim (the Psalms or writings). I like to refer to the “Old Testament” as the Tanak or the Scriptures.

• Torah – translated as Law in the English Bible. It actually means Instructions In the Scripture it is also referred to as the “writings of Moses” and consists of the first five books of the Bible. It comes from the root word “Yarah” which means; “to flow like water” and “to learn how to shoot”. This is interesting because sin in Hebrew is defined as “missing the mark”. Paul refers to the Torah as the “knowledge of sin” and this is why. The concept of water is also found in the “New Testament” where the Word is referred to as water (Eph 5:26). To wash yourself with the water of the Word (Torah) is to cleanse yourself from sin which is defined in the Torah (first five books of the Bible). This helps us not to miss the mark or to sin, but to live a holy righteous life unto Him. (2 Tim 3:16)

• Brit Chadasha or Apostolic Scriptures – as translated and known as the “New Testament” or “New Covenant”. These are the portions of the Bible that were mostly written by Paul and the Disciples and did not exist in the time of Y’shua. When they referred to “the Word” as in the Book of John, they refer only to the Tanak because the “New Testament” was not compiled yet. The tern “Old Testament” is a word that was given by the translators and it gives the impression that there is a Old and New and the New has replaced the Old. It should not be “Old Testament” but rather Tanak or Scriptures as the people who lived in the time of Y’shua referred to it. The term “New Testament” is suppose to be the word “Brit Chadasha” that means “Renewed Covenant” and is the extension that was added to all the previous Covenants that YHVH made with man. The Brit Chadasha is where YHVH will write His Torah (Law) on our hearts and where He will graft the scattered nation of Israel and the Gentiles into Israel as was prophesied in Jer 31:31-33 and Eze 11:19. Heb. 8:8-12, Heb. 10:16-17.

• The majority of Christians today say that the Law (Torah) is abolished and Jesus died and nailed it to the cross.

• They also say that the Law or Torah is beggarly and elementary things of the world which God has freed us from.

• They also say that if you obey or do the Law or Torah, you will fall from grace and not be saved.

• They say if you obey the Torah that you deny Jesus and will die in sin without grace.

• They also say that the Law is weak and the traditions of men. • They call obeying the Law (Torah) legalism. • They say that only the Jews had to do the Law to show us that it does not work.

Did YHVH make a mistake by giving the Torah? Is YHVH like a man that need to change His plan when He sees that it does not work? Does YHVH change?

This gives us a backdrop that paints the background before the coming of the Messiah because this is the last book in the OT and the last message was to repent. When John the Baptist and Y’shua opened their mouths, their first words were; Repent, the Kingdom of YHVH is at hand! We see that YHVH change not and that He advised His people to repent and turn back to His Torah (statutes). We have seen what people said about the Law of YHVH and we will now see what Y’shua and Paul had to say about the Torah.

People say that fulfill means “to abolish” and if you believe this it will read as follows:, $-.! $$$#&.It sounds a bit confusing, doesn’t it?

Destroy - - "kataloo" - to dissolve, disunite, to overthrow, bring to naught.

Fulfill - - " playroo" - From G4134; to make replete, fill completely, that is, (literally) to cram, to fill to superfluity, (a net), level up (a hollow), or (figuratively) to furnish (or imbue, diffuse, influence), satisfy, execute (an office), finish (a period or task), verify, perfect, supply.

Are the heaven and the earth still with us today? Yes, so is the Torah without taking away one "yod" (the smallest letter in the Hebrew Aleph-Bet) or "tittle" (Hebrew letters in the Torah that are made larger to emphasize a thought) See also in Luk_16:16-17. If you only read verse 16, it sounds if the Law was until John the Baptist, but harmonize with Matt 5:18 where not one Jot will pass away before the Law will pass away.

In Rom 2 Paul said that we must not be hearers of the Law only, but doers of the Law as well, then you shall be declared right. In Rom 3 Paul said that we establish the Law through our faith, by the way we live. In Rom 7 he said that the Law is Holy and the Commandments are Holy, righteous and good. Later on he quoted David from Ps 119 where he said that he delights in the Law of Elohim. This sounds like Paul embraced the Torah (Law) and did not preach against doing the Law. In his letters he definitely preach against the attitude of people who said they obey the Torah but their lives did not show it. He also spoke against salvation through only the Law and emphasize the fact that you need to start with faith in Y'shua to become righteous. He preached the need for receiving the Spirit and if you follow the Spirit, you will obey the Law because the Holy Spirit is the One Who helps us to be Holy or live as His Set Apart (Holy) people, not doing the things of the world but rather the things of Elohim. We need to understand that Paul’s writings are used to confirm that the Law is no more and that Paul’s letters are used to confirm the doctrine of “no more Torah” but liberty in the Spirit and freedom from the bondage of the Law. Let’s see what Peter, one of the elders and leaders of the Jerusalem counsel had to say about Paul’s letters.

Paul’s writings are difficult to understand and someone who does not have knowledge of Scripture (Tanak) will pervert it and misinterpret it and it will lead to false doctrines and the destruction of many.

“Nomos” – Law Which law did Paul speak about? The Torah, Oral laws or the law of the flesh? To find out, read the context carefully before you jump to conclusions.

Care should be taken when you make assumptions and define doctrine using Paul’s letters and you need to study the Scripture and know it very well to understand what Paul really meant and have to read everything in context if you do not want to fall into the trap of confusion and false doctrine. Paul should never contradict himself or others in the Word and this is what he said about the Law (Torah):

33.. OOnnee GGrreeeekk wwoorrdd ffoorr ddiiffffeerreenntt LLaawwss G3551 nom'-os

From a primary word (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), generally (regulation), specifically (of Moses [including the volume]; also of the Gospel), or figuratively (a principle): - law.

There is only one Greek word for the word "law" and there are different laws mentioned in the New Testament:

• Oral law or traditions - Man made law – Commandments of men - Mat_15:19

• Torah - Law of the Spirit – Commandments of Elohim - Rom_7:14

• Law of the Flesh -law of sin – Fleshly desires - All three types of laws are described by only one word in Greek "nomos". If you read a verse out of context, you will stand a good chance of missing the true meaning if you think that it means Torah everywhere in the New Testament. Please read the verses in context, especially the books of Paul, for they will confuse you if you read it in isolation. 44.. TThhee CCoommmmaannddmmeennttss ooff MMeenn

The “Church System” today is a modern replica of the Pharisaic system of changing YHVH’s Word (Instructions) by substituting it with man made instructions. : ;'%%<. Rev 18:4

Y'shua said here that people worship Him with commandments of man. Did He say that they worship Him with the Commandments of Elohim? No, he said they worship Him by following the teachings and of commandments of men. The Pharisees build “fences” around the Commandments of Elohim in order to keep people from breaking His Commandments. Their intentions are pure but they have added to YHVH’s Word and if you add to His Word, you will receive a curse. They have about 1800 laws concerning the Sabbath where YHVH only gave one Commandment for the Sabbath; not to work and to rest. He also stated later on in Scripture not to kindle a fire on the Sabbath (not to work because you need fore to perform certain tasks), and not to trade on the Sabbath (also a form of work). The Oral traditions and man made laws put such a burden on YHVH’s people that they could not bear it any longer and that caused them to fall away from following YHVH’s Commandments and fell away from Him back into the world. The Commandments are not bad but man's adding to His Commandments and perverted teachings regarding His Commandments are at fault here and they no longer follow YHVH but man. They worship Him in vain if they follow man's commandments and not His Commandments. Who do you serve? The one who’s instructions you follow. This was not a new problem that appeared when Y'shua came on the scene, no, it was a problem that have always been found among Israel. 0?(**>

The “laws of Israel” is the lawn that the religious authorities made that had a “flavour” of YHVH’s Instructions but are modified to suit man and their ways. You can do this by “fencing” or adding or “mixing” by interweaving YHVH’s Instructions with “pagan” traditions. They did this because they lived among the gentile nations and had gentiles who had joined them and they brought in their “flavour” of worship. This is the System called Babylon, which literally means “mixing and confusion”. Revelation calls this Religious System “the Whore of Babylon”.

The Ten Commandments consists of two parts; the first half is how to love, worship and honor YHVH and which things He like and dislikes. Doing this will strengthen your relationship with Him. The second set is about your relationship with other people, how to live in love with our neighbors. Y'shua underlined the two “headings” of the Ten Commandments and He summed up the key concepts we need to understand so that we will be able to understand it better and obey it more easily. The Ten Commandments was not replaced by love, as many teach today. Why do I say this? The Second Commandment is about; not to make a graven image and worship it.

Page 8: Did Yeshua Abolish the Torah (4)

)

If I say I love YHVH and if I really do from my heart, will I have things in my house that is abominations to YHVH and is offending YHVH love? This was what happened to the children of Israel, they worshipped the golden calf; saying that it is YHVH, but He looked like Egypt (something they were use to). They did it with a pure heart and with sincerity, yet YHVH wiped them out because it was against His direct Instruction and not the way He prescribed them to worship Him. They did it out of ignorance and He says in Scripture that His people go astray because of a lack of knowledge. on how He wanted to be worshipped. Did they love YHVH? I think so, but they disobeyed the second Commandment because they reasoned with human minds and thought the truth is found in numbers. YHVH’s Kingdom is not a democracy and He is the One Who dictates the Standards we need to abide to if we choose to follow Him. In the same way we cannot substitute the Commandments with love, changing it to fit our “new age” theology. If you love someone you will do things that person likes, that is to say, if you know the person. People do whatever they want because they do not know Who they serve.

Do you know the Commandments? Y'shua taught here the basics of the Torah known as the Ten Commandments. He did not say that these Commandments are no more, He explained these Commandments to the people, to purify it from man's interpretation and Pharisaic perversion. We need to also cleanse the word of YHVH from man-made perversions and false doctrines that is contradicting the rest of Scripture and confuse His people.

YHVH’s Commandments are not heavy and if they are, you must search the Scripture to see if you are not following man made commandments. They will bind you into a system of confusion and that will drain the life out of you.

77.. MMiissiinntteerrpprreetteedd SSccrriippttuurreessThere are a few verses in the Scripture that Paul made statements and these statements are used as evidence that the Law has been abolished. If this is the case then Paul is teaching the opposite of what Y'shua taught and this causes contradictions in the Scripture and confusion in the Church today. This also question if Paul was a false teacher that steered people away from the Torah. Paul was accused of teaching the Jews that believed in Messiah not to follow Torah anymore. This was not true and to prove this, Paul and four others had to undergo a Nazarene Vow which was one of the most difficult things to do according to the Torah in order to prove that he was still following Torah. He did that and they accepted his witness and proved the accusations to be lies. The verdict: No, Paul was not a false prophet. Paul was a Torah observant Believer in Y’shua the Messiah. Lets look at a few of the famous verses and see if we can see them in context to find out the truth behind it all:

Enmity - G2189 echthra ekh'-thrah - Feminine of G2190; hostility; by implication a reason for opposition: - enmity, hatred. The quality of being an enemy; the opposite of friendship

This is an often misquoted verse in Scripture where people use this to teach that Y’shua abolished the Torah. If this is the case, first of all; It contradicts Matt 5:17 and this canot be and secondly; the context is about the Jews and Gentiles (proselytes – Gentiles converted to Judaism), who worshipped in separation. They were not permitted to enter the inner court and had to worship at the western wall behind the back of the Temple. These were laws the Pharisees invented to keep then separate from the Jews. Y’shua came to break down this dividing wall so that all nations can be gathered into the Kingdom and be grafted into Israel. It has nothing to do with the Torah. This was the main goal of all Paul's arguments and this was the hidden mystery Rom_11:25, Eph_1:9 , Eph_3:3 that YHVH revealed to Him to preach. His aim was to preach to the Gentiles, that they are co-heirs of the Kingdom. Did He abolish the Law? No, only the false Dogma and teachings taught by the Pharisees, (teaching that the Gentiles are dogs -pagan- and are not allowed to come in), and the hostility between the Israelites and the Gentiles (through Paul), making of the Two, One new man (people). We see this later in the destruction of the Temple; that only the Western Wall remained, the wall where the Gentiles were allowed to come to the Temple (back end). In Hebrew, west means nations and the Jews are wailing at this wall, not knowing that they now stand where the Gentiles use to stand, quite ironic I would say. Another interesting fact is that the Western Wall was the wall between the Gentiles and the Holy of Holies and they were actually “closer” to the presence of YHVH than the others in the inner court. "(*6*) 5* '$D2($''$23$%

Paul made very straightforward statements here; we are not under the Law but under Grace, the Torah is the Law of sin and death and we are not under the Torah if the Spirit leads us. Can this be? This contradicts what he said previously about the Torah as well as what Y’shua said in Matt 5:17. Here is a lot of confusion and we have to read the whole passage in context to see what Paul really meant by these statements. People normally don’t read the other passages where Paul speaks highly about the Torah and that are why they only cling to these “out of context” interpretations to suit their doctrine of “Grace only”.

Ignorance is the main reason for confusion and pre conceived ideas cause you to read the Scripture with a “grace lens” that filters out the real truth. Let’s study the se verses in context: I use color coding to link the thoughts together so that you will follow the context of the two themes more easily.

Then the key part of the verse; sin shall not rule over you because you are not under the law. Which law? The law of the flesh, not the Torah. How do I know this? Paul said so himself later in Chapter 7. He talks about two different laws; the law of the flesh and the law of the spirit (mind) or Torah.

The same two themes used here; the law of the flesh or sin working against the Torah or Law of the spirit (mind). Now we see which law Paul was talking about in Rom_6:14-15. We are not under the law of the flesh but we are under the law of Elohim, the Law of the Spirit, the Torah, serving our Master according to His standards and we do not serve sin through our fleshly desires. Chapter 8 confirms this statement and these themes continue through this chapter as well. "(+06 -;!J'D "1%*+1 *3*51;(+ *1* */-$!'' #'&$#'&;!"

We se the same two themes in Galatians where Paul talks about the Spiritual Law and the fleshly law. If you obey the Law of the Spirit, following the Spirit, you will not obey the law of the flesh, walking in the flesh and in sin.

Conclusion: YHVH set us free from the bondage of the law of the flesh that cause us to sin and He has made us alive to the Law of the Spirit, the Torah, which we now want to follow because we live set apart lives unto our Master Y’shua. He gave us the means and ability to “raise the standard of Life” through giving us His Spirit, the Torah in our hearts which we now want to follow. 77..33 HHee nnaaiilleedd tthhee LLaaww ttoo tthhee CCrroossss--.. =0*6$''** '

The Colossians’ were gentiles and this is seen in the phrase ‘uncircumcision of your flesh’. This means that they have never been “under the Law of YHVH” (Torah) but was under sin. So how can He nail a Law to the cross they were not commanded to obey? What did Y’shua then nail to the cross? The decree that stood against us (all humans) because of sin we allowed in our lives and the decree that was against us is the death penalty. The Greek word for “ordinance” is the word “dogma” and means ‘decree’ that a king will write in order to sentence someone to death. The decree that stood against us was the penalty for sin, which is death. This decree existed at the time of Adam when man committed the first sin. The Law or Torah defines what sin is. So in other words; He did not take away the definition of sin, ignoring sin

completely, for if He had done so, Y’shua died in vain. No, someone had to die and fulfill the decree that was against man because of sin. This act of Y’shua, of dying on the cross is to pay for the sin that was committed, and through this payment with His blood, He purged our names from the “death penalty” or “decree” and we can are set free from the consequence of sin (death), and not the Law (Torah). Can Y’shua be a Judge without a Law or measuring stick? No, you can only judge people according to some measure, which they knew about and instructed to obey. If Y’shua would judge without a standard, He will not be a righteous Judge. The Law also defines YHVH’s Holiness and His Character. Without the Law we would not have know what YHVH is like and which things He loves and which things He hates. Here is the same verse but from the Scriptures translation. =0**60*1% *;51;*51 15%* !3%!/$$C$#&C'5 ' D

Now if we took the stance of many on this scripture, we would say that anyone who tries to keep the law is under a curse. But that isn't what is being said here at all!! Look at the scripture that is being quoted here. It is Deut. 27:26-,00=''3'0%%*0

Does this scripture say that those who do them are under a curse? Certainly not. It is saying those who DO NOT DO them are under a curse!!! So how does this fit in with what Paul said? It is those Jews who did not accept Y’shua’s Sacrifice that leads to forgiveness and salvation. The Sacrificial system is the “Grace” of YHVH to enable man to exist even if he is sinful. Y’shua became that Sacrifice for sin so that those who have faith in Him (receiving His Blood to redeem them), will receive forgiveness and salvation. You needed the sacrifice for sin if you break any of the commandments of YHVH (defining what sin is). All of man have sinned (fallen short of the standard of YHVH’s Instructions) and needs the “System of Grace” (Sacrifices) to purge them so that YHVH would not cut them off. When Y’shua became the Sacrifice, the other sacrifices for sin is no longer accepted (later confirmed in the destruction of the Temple), and you could not ”tap into” YHVH’s Grace without Y’shua. Without a “System of Grace” (Sacrificial System) you need to do all the Commandments 100% (be sinless) in order to get away without the need for the “System of Grace”. So, we are not saved by doing the Torah 100%, because no man can, but we relay on the “System of Grace”, Y’shua’s Blood to keep us alive even if we fall short of YHVH’s standards for life. But this does not mean that we do not try to be Holy, because He said that we should be Holy because He is Holy (living His Standard of Righteousness). Bottom line; the Torah cannot save you, only the System that is found inside the Torah, the System of Grace that Y’shua fulfilled (give meaning to and made valid for all of humanity), only through faith in Him (receiving and accepting it), we can be saved. 88.. Part of being "born again" is to receive the Spirit through the laying on of hands and through a prayer. The person will receive the Spirit if his heart is longing for the Spirit, and if the person who is praying, is Spirit filled. The Spirit is the Gift from YHVH that came after Y'shua and to lead us and teach us the way Y'shua did with His Disciples. Joh_15:26, Joh_16:13. The Spirit will testify of Y'shua, speak only the Words of the Father and will guide you in all Truth. He is the Holy or Set Apart Spirit that will lead you in the Truth so that you can also be set apart or Holy. To be set apart is to live a life that is different to the world and is according to the Word of YHVH. The Spirit will open your spiritual eyes so that you can see the Truth in His Word (Torah) Eze_36:27 and take away all lies and % taught by man. Mat_15:9. This is a direct quote form Exodus 20:6 and this clears out the confusion of which Commandments He was talking about. Y'shua said; "If you love Me, keep my Commands" (Torah). After that He said that you will receive the Spirit Who will help you and guide you in all Truth. It is through the Spirit that we have the strength to keep His counsel. Isa_11:2

99.. MMuusstt wwee ddoo tthhee LLaaww?? Y'shua said that He will fulfill the Law. We can also fulfill the Law if we love our neighbor. Does this mean that we take away the Law? No, this means that we do the second part of the Ten Commandments, if we love our neighbor. Love is the motive for doing the Law and also the way to do the Law. You are not free when you are bound by sin, doing sin and a servant thereof. You are free when you are not serving sin, or in other words, abiding by the standard of YHVH, which is to be sinless. It is only through the ability of Y’shua and His Spirit that He can help you to slowly “grow” up in becoming more holy and doing less sin. You are then a servant of Y’shua and no longer a servant of sin. The Torah of freedom is the Law that makes you free form sin and the consequences of sin (curses). If you want to be free, start to follow the Spirit and obey the Torah written in your heart. If you want to be bound, follow your flesh and serve sin unto your destruction. Freedom is not to be able to do what you want because the result of your decisions will bind you. If you stay within the “safe boundaries” of the Torah, the result of your choices will be liberating (blessings). Must I do the Torah? It sounds like such a burden. Can I ask the question different? Do you want to be happy? Do you want to know YHVH? Do you want to know how to worship YHVH? Do you want to have a happy life full of blessings? Do you want to have a happy family? Do you want to experience the peace of YHVH? If the answer is yes to all these questions, yes you have to follow Torah to tap into all of these blessings, the Torah is the “higher quality of life” the Life YHVH lives and you can live that two. It is known as “Chai Olam” – “Eternal Life” or “Quality of Life”. Get sin and death and curses out of your life and start to live His abundant blessed quality of life.

The only Word that was known by John at that time was the TaNaK, (Torah + Prophesies + Psalms). The New Testament was not yet compiled and the only written word was the Torah and the Prophets (main books). If Y'shua, Who is the Word, came down to earth and became the Word that dwelled among us, surely this means that it was the Torah that was lived by Y'shua, taught by Y'shua and the Prophecies that are fulfilled by Y'shua.
