ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT SPORTS NEWS
PATTO’S FIRST SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The sun was out and ready for our first annual Swimming
Carnival. What a fantastic day we had! Students in Years 3-6
had the opportunity to compete in 5 different events for the
day.
Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and the noodle
race. The day gave all students the chance to experience a
Swimming Carnival no matter what swimming ability they were.
Teachers were very keen to be a part of the day, jumping in
the water for the long awaited noodle race.
A big thanks must go to those parents who volunteered their
time on the day and to any parents who came along and
supported our students.
The official results showed that the winning house for 2014
was “THOMPSON”. GO THOMPSON! Congratulations and
good luck to those students who are selected to represent
Patto at the Swimming Districts on Friday 28th February at the
Pines Pool.
SPECIALIST CLASS AWARDS for last week were: P.E – 4A, Spanish – 5B and Computers – 5D. Congratulations to these classes on their super efforts with our specialist teachers.
‘YOU CAN DO IT’ AWARDS
Congratulations to the following students who won our You Can Do It awards for last week: Brodie W (6C) for Getting Along and Anthony S (6C) for Confidence.
INFORMATION PACKAGE
The Information Package was distributed to families of Years 1-6 students on Wednesday and Preps today. It included: Student Code of Conduct, Acceptable Use of Information Communications Technology (ICT) Policy, Head Lice Inspections, Anti Bullying Policy, Homework Policy and Consent/Agreement Forms.
There is one package per family which was sent home with the youngest member of each family. The school asks you to read these policies with your child(ren). This year the signing and returning of the agreement/permission forms to the school will only need to be completed for Prep students and those students who are new to the school. This should be done by Friday 21st February. Those students who attended our school in 2013 have signed until the end of Year 6. The forms for Preps and new students can be returned to class teachers or be placed in the ‘Drop Box’ at the Office. The school distributed a Bicycle Code of Practice and consent form to students intending to ride their bikes to school on Monday.
MEET THE TEACHER’ PARENT TEACHER MEETINGS -
Tuesday 18 February
Parent Teacher Meetings will be held on Tuesday, 18th February from 12:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. Bookings for these meetings can be made on the school’s website with your login name (surname) and pin number which was sent home with the youngest member of the family on Monday. All students were provided with a 2014 ‘MEET THE TEACHER’ - PARENT/GUARDIAN INFORMATION sheet. It would be greatly appreciated if this could be returned to your child’s class teacher by tomorrow if you haven’t already done so. If you have not received or misplaced your login pin number, please contact the office to have it re-issued. There is the flexibility for parents to change times if required. This can be done by simply logging back in and changing your booking if there is a more suitable time that has been made available through a cancellation or if another parent has changed to a more suitable time.
WEARING OF SUNGLASSES AT SCHOOL
Students are encouraged to wear sunglasses at school as part of our Sunsmart Policy. Wearing sunglasses at morning recess, lunch play and during outdoor school activities such as P.E helps to protect the eyes from the harmful U.V rays. It has been great to see a couple of students wearing their sunglasses at school this week and we hope to see a lot more doing so in the future.
We are looking for a couple of keen parent helpers for
assistance in coaching/refereeing Yr 5/6 Summer
Inter-school Sport. Parent helpers MUST have a Working
with Children's Check registered at the school and be
available every Friday between 9.00am - 11.00am in Term 1.
If there are any parents with a background and interest in
Kanga Cricket, Basketball, Walla Rugby or Volleyball please
contact Miss Conway ([email protected]) with
the sport you are interested in assisting, your background in
the sport and contact details.
Regards Michelle Conway.

HEAD LICE - LET’S FIGHT THEM TOGETHER ….. If you find lice, do not worry or be embarrassed. Head lice are a normal part of childhood - nearly 1 in 10 primary school children could have head lice at any one time. Most of us know what a hassle it is to treat head lice and just how frustrating it can be when your child comes home scratching their head yet again. But parents can fight the spread of head lice by working together: Check your family's hair for lice regularly - once a week is ideal!
