TO ALL GRAND MASTERS AND GRAND SECRETARIES

Dear Grand Secretary:

The xth World Conference of Masonic Grand Lodges held in Libreville, Gabon

was a huge success. Those unable to attend missed an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that

will probably not be duplicated. The presidents of four countries were in attendance and the

organizing committee is to be congratulated for the excellent arrangements.

Now, the time has arrived for making arrangements and constructing plans for

the XI World Conference to be held in Cartagena, Colombia may 12-14, 2011. I just

returned from Cartagena, and to say that I was impressed with the potential for another

great conference would be a gross understatement. Preparations are well underway to

assure all attendees of an enjoyable and beneficial conference.

Cartagena is a beautiful gleaming white modern city while at the same time

retaining much old world charm of narrow streets, small parks and local squares for sitting

and enjoying a relaxing lifestyle. It has also preserved its ancient heritage including the wall

surrounding the city along with the fortress that was built by the early Spaniards to defend

against pirates. In addition, museums trace back the pre-Spanish heritage of an Indian

culture that showed a remarkable advanced lifestyle.

I traveled quite freely, walking and riding throughout the city with no reason for

concern. Indeed, I sat with the Grand Master at two o'clock in the morning at an outside café

enjoying the peaceful sounds of the ocean along with the music of modern-day society. In

spite of writings in the press, I found less reason for concern than I would in many North

American cities.

Brochures are being developed by the organizing committee to be mailed to

each Grand Lodge giving all the details of the conference including registration

requirements, hotel options and deadlines for papers to be presented.

The main theme of the conference will be based on Freemasonry's potential to

participate in the social issues confronting modern day societies.

As approved by the conference a contribution of $300.00 US over 18 months is

requested for support of the ongoing operating costs for the conference. Six Grand Lodges

have already made the contribution since the Gabon conference.

Isaac Schuster Smith, PGM y conversaron

sobre las experiencias vividas en las

diferentes Conferencias mundiales en las que

se han encontrado; Lisboa, Madrid, Sao

Paulo y chile, entre otras y sobre la

organización de la XI Conferencia Mundial

del 2011.

encuentra la Sede de la Serenísima Gran

Logia Nacional de Colombia.

Plaza de Bolívar, en cuyo centro se

levanta la Estatua del Libertador Q.·.

H.·. Simón Bolívar, en la que se lee la

inscripción “ Si Caracas me dio la vida,

Cartagena me dio la Gloria “. Es

considerada la Plaza Mayor de la

ciudad por su cercanía con el Museo

del Oro, Banco de la República,

Palacio de la Inquisición, la Catedral y

la Gobernación del Departamento de

Bolívar.

FELIPE DE BARAJAS

El Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas,

símbolo de las grandes epopeyas

históricas de Cartagena de Indias,

fue visitado también por el Il.·. H.·.

Thomas W. Jackson, quien quedó

gratamente impresionado y

manifestó su complacencia por los

avances de la organización de la

Conferencia, los escenarios

naturales y la tradición histórica de

la ciudad.
