The SAFOCO Diaphragm Actuator combinessimplicity with ease of maintenance to providean extraordinary value in a SSVactuator.

Its operating principle and rugged designmake this actuator inherently trouble-free. Thisdiaphragm actuator design has eliminated theproblems of downtime and added safetyfeatures vital to today's customer requirements.This actuator is designed for most surface safetyapplications.

The SAFOCO Actuator utilizes the traditionaldiaphragm concept by eliminating galling,misalignment and distortion during operation.

The close tolerance problem has beeneliminated by providing wear bearings in theactuator and bonnet to suspend the top shaftand bonnet stem from contacting metal duringoperation.

SAFOCO has designed into each model,series, and size of diaphragm actuator theindustry's strongest compression spring. This isimportant to ensure gate valve closure. Nospecial tools are required when loading thecompression spring.

Ease of repair and service has been providedby designing the top seal cartridge so that it canbe removed easily and quickly.

To remove the actuator from the bonnetremove 8 hex head bolts with a crescentwrench, then lift the actuator from the bonnet.

Actuator is normally supplied in thefail-closed configuration. Pneumaticactuator supply pressure drives thevalves reverse ported gate down andholds it in the open position undernormal operating conditions. In theevent of an abnormal condition, theactuator supply pressure is released orbled off by quick exhaust mechanisms,allowing the valve to close by bodypressure acting on the bonnet stemdiameter and spring force. Restoringof Pneumatic Actuator supply pressureautomatically reopens the valve.

When required, the valve can beconfigured with a fail open gatedesign for a vent or blow-downsystem.
