Dialoguewith CEO

In the beginning of my speech, I would like to extend my congratulations to

HH the Amir and HH the Crown Prince on the advent of Eid Al-Fitr hoping

Allah, the Almighty, to bestow His blessings on the State of Kuwait and the

Arab and Islamic nations.

I entreat Allah, the Almighty, as I congratulate you on this blessed occasion,

to bring it back peacefully and blessedly to my colleagues in the oil sector

while we progress steadily towards the future through implementing the 2030

strategy. This strategy is aimed at fortifying the status of Kuwait Petroleum

Corporation internationally as it includes projects and plans that cope with

environmental strategies that have been initiated all over the world. In this

context, the environmental fuel project, which tops the projects that KPC

intends to execute within the coming phase, has been recently approved. This

project will enable Kuwait to manufacture petroleum products pursuant to the

international criteria allotted in this domain. Furthermore, it will help improve

the quality of the petroleum distillates on the environmental and financial

levels as well as achieving added value for the Kuwaiti economy.

In this context, we should not disregard the petrochemical complex project which

is planned to be established in China as it is considered one of the focal projects

for the Corporation and the country as well. This project depends focally on the

Kuwaiti oil and it will open new horizons of common collaboration between

Kuwait and China. It will provide good outlets and markets for the Kuwaiti

products in a region considered one of the most developing zones all over the

world in spite of the sequential crises hitting the international economy. It is

known that China is the second biggest oil consumer in the world and it is one

of the most important industrially advanced countries as well, in addition to

its significant population. All these factors grant us a lucrative opportunity to

invest there and enter good markets that can take part incessantly in improving

the Kuwaiti oil products and achieve, in turn, desired added value for the

Kuwaiti economy.

I n T h i s I s s u e

We thank Allah, the Almighty, as

He has completed His virtue on

Muslim people, and let them wit-

ness the end of the holy month of

Ramadan.

As we receive the Eid Al-Fitr, we

entreat Allah, the Almighty, to ac-

cept our good deeds and charitable

activities we tried devotedly to per-

form during the holy month of Ra-

madan. We beseech Him to bestow

His mercy and forgiveness upon us.

We beg Him to enable us to behave

our manners as they were during the

holy month of Ramadan to keep the

same good manners throughout our

lifespan. These good manners are

supposed actually to be available in

each Muslim person not only in Ra-

madan but throughout the year.

Eid is a lucrative opportunity to

spread the meanings of sympathy

and intimacy through which joy fills

the faces of all people particularly

the poor. It is a chance to root hope

and good omen in our hearts to con-

solidate altogether. It is known that

solidarity is one of the religion’s es-

sences.

It is a chance to forgive slips of

tongue and mistakes. It is chance to

empty hearts from hatred, malice,

altercations and enmity to become

brothers gathering around Islam

to fulfill the meaning of the verse

quoted from the holy Qur’an which

says Muslim persons are brother;

thereby, Allah, the Almighty in-

structs us to settle any disputes

waged among them.

Eid means to overcome conflicts

and disputes with others. Our

prophet (PBUH) says, “The Mus-

lim person is not allowed to boy-

cott any other Muslim more than 3

days. However, the one who greets

the other one firstly is the best.

Our Islam urges us to respect each

other; the young respects the el-

der and the latter shows sympathy

to the young. Muslims people are

instructed to cooperate mutually

to achieve charity and piety. Islam

also bans cooperating in commit-

ting sins. We should seek to es-

tablish and develop our homeland.

We should bolster our relations and

exchange visits with relatives and

friends to spread congratulations

on Eid which is an aspect of inti-

macy and benevolence.

Definitely, the blessings of Allah,

the Almighty, are countless as He

guides us to follow the right path of

His prophet (PBUH) like his hon-

orable family members and com-

panions.

As we receive Eid, we say farewell

to the beloved holy month of Ra-

madan whose page has been turned.

Anyhow, we couldn’t help congrat-

ulating those whose worship was

accepted during the holy month of

Ramadan and condoling those ones

whose worship was rejected.

God is the great!

Verdicts related to Eid

Zakat Al-Fitr “Alms”: It is obligation imposed on

each Muslim person witnessing the holy month of Ra-

madan. It is about a certain amount from dates, wheat or

rice. This amount is equal to 2.40 kg. However, it must

be paid at the time of the sunset of the last day of Rama-

dan. Anyhow, it can be paid one or two days before Eid

but if it is paid after Eid prayer, it is not considered then

Zakat; it will be considered a charitable deed.

Sunna and prohibitions of Eid

Pursuant to the prophet’s Sunna, Muslims should ex-

claim “Allah is the great” from the time of the sunset

of the last day of Ramadan until the time of performing

Eid prayer. The Muslim person should bathe and wear

the best of his clothes. He should break his fast before

walking to perform Eid prayer. It is preferable, in line

with Sunna, to have some uneven dates. He should take

another way other than the one he took when he walked

to the place of performing the Eid prayer. Moreover, the

prophet (PBUH) bans fasting on the days of Eid Al-Fitr

and Eid Al-Adha. The prophet did not prefer to visit

graves during Eid.

Eid prayer

It is collective duty. It is composed of two prostrations;

in the first one the Imam and his followers exclaim sev-

en times that Allah is great; in addition, they exclaim

five times Allah is great in the second one. The sermon

is given after performing the prayer. Moreover, women

are allowed to walk for such prayer.

Happy Eid! We sincerely entreat Allah, the Almighty,

to accept your good deeds during this holy month. We

beseech Him to bestow his mercy upon His prophet

Muhammad (PBUH) and his wise caliphs; Abu Baker,

Omar, Othman and Ali besides all companions and fol-

lowers.

Eid…customs & Traditions

Eid was earlier distinguished with certain joy as Muslim

people were considering its advent very carefully due to

its importance. Before the advent of Eid, a number of

preparations is geared up. Among these preparations are

some popular desserts which are served necessarily in

the breakfast one the first day of Eid besides purchasing

new clothes and accessories for girls and women as well

as other items express the advent of Eid.

On the first day of Eid, all family members would gath-

er, after performing Eid prayer, at the house of the head

of the family to launch the ceremonies of the Eid. All

the family members are seated at one big table on which

multiple Kuwaiti traditional delectable food items are

served such as “Al-Harees and Al-Mehammar with

fish”, “Balaleet with egg” as well as various types of

desserts such as “Al-Khabees, Elki, Zalabiya and Tra-

beel” in addition to other hot drinks such as tea, milk

and coffee.

Women would decorate their hands and legs with red

henna to which a certain substance is added to form

navy red color. They were dressed in several traditional

clothes such as “Nafaneef” and Bakhaniq” which were

decorated with big roses. Women were also keen on

wearing jewelry through which they were decorating

their necks and hands.

Furthermore, children would go to streets to enjoy play-

ing with swings. In addition, several popular games

were allocated in suburbs and yards to be used in Eid.

Children were interested in playing such games. Ad-

ditionally, people would gather with their children at

Al-Safat Yard at Naif Palace to watch traditional shows

such as dancing with swords.
