Dial 999 in an Emergency Safety Education Learning outcome: Pupils should know which emergency service to call in an emergency and what information they should give. Resources: Scenario cards, Photos of emergency services Paper and pens Activity details: 1. Ask pupils to name the 5 emergency services and write on board. 2. Organise pupils in small groups of 3 or 4 3. Hand out one scenario card and copies of photographs to each group either in pairs or small groups. 3. Ask pupils to read card and decide which service they would call and what information they will need to give, remembering that landmarks are a good way to identify where the incident is taking place. 4. Give pupils 10 minutes to prepare to share their 999 emergency with the class, including the 999 call to the appropriate service. Pupils may chose to either: • act out the scenario, with a narrator, or as a small scene from a play • write incident as a news report or newspaper article and read out to class • or just talk through scenario allowing rest of class to ask questions.
