Section 1: Using the Diagnostics

Keys on the OPERATOR PANEL

Lights on the OPERATOR PANEL

Obtaining Access to the Diagnostic Program[1] De-energize the PRINTER.

[2] At the same time, do:

• energize the PRINTER

• press and hold [+] + [Menu] + [-]

[3] The LCD displays “System Setup Mode”, then “Initializing”, then “Ready:*****”.

[4] Press [Menu] to open the Diagnostics Menu.

NoteTo return to the Customer Menu Mode, de-energize and energize the PRINTER.

Making a Test Print[1] Press:

• [Menu] until “Test Print Mode” displays on the LCD

• [Enter] to make a test print

“+” Move forward.

“-” Move back.

“Menu” Opens the menu options.

“Enter” Selects the menu option.

“Paper Advance” Feeds the paper into the PRINTER.

“Paper Rewind/Clear”

•When the LCD displays “Ready”, this key rewinds the paper into the PAPER ROLL.

•Moves up 1 menu level.

Light Color Status of the PRINTER

“Power” Orange The PRINTER is energized.

“Ready” Green The PRINTER is ready to make prints.

“Error” Red An error has occurred. Read the message displayed on the LCD, then see “Error Codes” on Page 4.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

Possible Cause Action

The THERMAL HEAD MOTOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the THERMAL HEAD MOTOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN12 - CN63 - CN68 on the THERMAL HEAD MOTOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new THERMAL HEAD MOTOR AY.

The THERMAL HEAD SENSOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the THERMAL HEAD SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN42 - CN74 and CN42 - CN75 on the THERMAL HEAD SENSOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new THERMAL HEAD SENSOR AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

Possible Cause Action

The PINCH ROLLER MOTOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PINCH ROLLER MOTOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN12 - CN62 on the PINCH ROLLER MOTOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PINCH ROLLER MOTOR AY.

The PINCH ROLLER SENSOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PINCH ROLLER SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN41 - CN71 and CN41 - CN72 on the PINCH ROLLER SENSOR AY and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PINCH ROLLER SENSOR AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the SUB-PINCH ROLLER SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN44 - CN80 and CN44 - CN81 on the SUB-PINCH ROLLER SENSOR AY and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. Check that CONNECTORS CN11 - CN40 on the SUB-PINCH ROLLER SENSOR AY and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

4. If necessary, install a new SUB-PINCH ROLLER SENSOR AY.

The PAPER FEED SUB-PINCH MOTOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PAPER FEED SUB-PINCH MOTOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN12 - CN64 - CN69 on the PAPER FEED SUB-PINCH MOTOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PAPER FEED SUB-PINCH MOTOR AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

Possible Cause Action

The CAM is in the incorrect position. 1. Restart the PRINTER.

The PAPER FEED PINCH MOTOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PAPER FEED PINCH MOTOR.

2. Check that the CONNECTORS for the PAPER FEED PINCH MOTOR and the CONTROLLER BOARD are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PAPER FEED PINCH MOTOR.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

Possible Cause Action

The EJECT SENSOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the EJECT SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS on the EJECT SENSOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new EJECT SENSOR AY.

The EJECT ROLLER MOTOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that the EJECT ROLLER MOTOR is connected correctly at both ends.

2. Check the EJECT MOTOR in the diagnostics. When the EJECT MOTOR is up, both sensors are “on”. When the EJECT MOTOR is down, SENSOR 1 is “off” and SENSOR 2 is “on”.

3. If necessary, install a new EJECT MOTOR.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

The PAPER CUTTER is out of position.

1. Use the diagnostics to move the CUTTER to the correct position.

2. If the CUTTER is stuck, clean and lubricate the CUTTER AY.

3. If necessary, install a new PAPER CUTTER.

The PAPER CUTTER AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that CONNECTORS CN10 - CN94 on the PAPER CUTTER AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN50 - CN92 and CN50 - CN93 on the SENSOR for the PAPER CUTTER AY and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PAPER CUTTER AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

Possible Cause Action

The PAPER EDGE SENSOR on the PAPER EDGE SENSOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PAPER EDGE SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN45 - CN82 on the PAPER EDGE SENSOR and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PAPER EDGE SENSOR AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

The PINCH ROLLER UP/DOWN SENSOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PINCH ROLLER UP/DOWN SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS on the PINCH ROLLER UP/DOWN SENSOR are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PINCH ROLLER UP/DOWN SENSOR.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

2. Check that the connectors for the FEED IN PINCH SENSORS are connected correctly at both ends.

3. If necessary, install a new FEED IN PINCH SENSOR AY.

The FEED IN PINCH MOTOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that the FEED IN PINCH MOTOR is connected correctly at both ends.

2. Check the FEED IN PINCH MOTOR in the diagnostics. When the MOTOR is up, both SENSOR 1 is “off” and SENSOR 2 is “on”. When the MOTOR is down, SENSOR 1 is “on” and SENSOR 2 is “off”.

3. If necessary, install a new FEED IN PINCH MOTOR.

Possible Cause Action

The PAPER POSITION SENSORS are disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PAPER POSITION SENSORS.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN43 - CN76 and CN43 - CN77 on the PAPER POSITION SENSORS and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install new PAPER POSITION SENSORS.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

Possible Cause Action

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

1. Check that the FEED IN PINCH MOTOR is connected correctly at both ends.

2. Check the FEED IN PINCH MOTOR in the diagnostics. When the MOTOR is up, both SENSOR 1 is “off” and SENSOR 2 is “on”. When the MOTOR is down, SENSOR 1 is “on” and SENSOR 2 is “off”.

3. If necessary, install a new FEED IN PINCH MOTOR.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the PINCH ROLLER MOTOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS CN12 - CN64 - CN69 on the PINCH ROLLER MOTOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new PINCH ROLLER MOTOR AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

The RIBBON TAKE-UP SENSOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the RIBBON TAKE-UP SENSOR.

2. Check that CONNECTORS for the SENSOR AY are connected correctly at both ends.

3. Rotate the DECODER.

4. If necessary, install a new RIBBON TAKE-UP SENSOR AY.

Possible Cause Action

The JUNCTION BOARD AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that CONNECTORS CN11 - CN40 on the CONTROLLER BOARD AY and the JUNCTION BOARD AY are connected correctly.

2. If necessary, install a new JUNCTION BOARD AY.

The HEAD THERMISTOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Use the diagnostics to check the operation of the HEAD THERMISTOR.

2. Check that the CONNECTORS on the THERMAL HEAD and the CONTROLLER BOARD AY are connected correctly.

3. If necessary, install a new THERMAL HEAD.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning.

The PAPER EMPTY SENSOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that the SENSOR is connected correctly at both ends.

The PAPER FEED SUB-MOTOR AY is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that CONNECTOR CN7 on the PAPER FEED SUB-MOTOR AY and the CONTROLLER BOARD is connected correctly.

2. If necessary, install a new PAPER FEED SUB-MOTOR AY.

The CONTROLLER BOARD AY is malfunctioning

1. Upgrade the FIRMWARE for the PRINTER.

2. If necessary, install a new CONTROLLER BOARD AY.

The PAPER POSITION SENSOR is disconnected or malfunctioning.

1. Check that the SENSOR is connected correctly at both ends.

2. If necessary, install a new PAPER POSITION SENSOR.
