Diabetes Geelong

Diabetes is the condition that

results from an imbalance of insulin in a

person's blood, or when their body has a problem

using the insulin it produces.

However, when people say

"diabetes", they usually mean

diabetes mellitus. People with

diabetes mellitus are called

"diabetics".

Types of diabetes1. Type 1 diabetes: Type 1 diabetes happens when the part of the pancreas

that makes insulin is destroyed by that person’s own immune system.

2. Type 2 diabetes:In Type 2 diabetes, the person makes insulin, but either the insulin does not work in that person’s body as it should, or they do not make enough insulin to process glucose.

3. Gestational diabetesGestational diabetes is like Type 2 diabetes. It happens to some women when they are pregnant.

Symptoms of diabetes• Lack of interest and

concentration• Excessive thirst• Frequent urination• Weight loss• Increased hunger• Tiredness• Vomiting and stomach pain• Blurred vision• Slow-healing wounds

In type 1 diabetes you can easily detect the problem of diabetes by the aforementioned signs. But with type 2 diabetes, it can be much harder to detect because there may only be mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.

Risk factors of Diabetes• No or low physical activity• Improper food habits• Stress• Sleep deprivation• Being overweight• Gestational diabetes during

pregnancyDiabetes increases the risk of developing Peripheral Arterial Disease. A person who manages their diabetes properly can reduce that risk.
