Rotary Awareness to us and to the people around us becomes importantbecause it increase our capacity to serve more to our communities. Awareness of
service is reflected in our motto Service Above Self, through which we can
create better clubs, better district and better communities.
January being Rotary Awareness month is a great time to reflect on what it means
to be a Rotarian. We should be aware of our actions and commitments and realize
the power of the Rotary of which we are the members. We should seek those
powers within ourselves to bring change to the lives of people we serve.
I encourage all clubs in the district to conduct a joint Rotary/Rotaract/Interact project to increase awareness
of Rotary in the communities and work with schools and community groups, to raise awareness and develop
programs that address water, health & hunger and literacy issues.
I wish all Rotarian friends and families of Rotary, a happy, successful and prosperous New Year 2015.
Good Luck & Light Up Rotary.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE
GARY C.K. HUANG
PRESIDENT 2014-15
JANUARY 2015
At the beginning of this Rotary year, I asked Rotarians everywhere toLight Up
Rotaryby holding a Rotary Day. How you do this is something I'm leaving up to
you: It can be a full day or just a few hours. It can be organized by your club, by
your district, or even across your entire country. It can be a service project, a
festival, or any kind of event you want. As long as it's open to the community,
embraces the whole family of Rotary, and is fun, it's a Rotary Day.
The goal of a Rotary Day is to shine a light on Rotary. For many years, we in Rotary felt that it wasn't appro-
priate to boast about our good work. We felt it was best to serve quietly and let our work speak for itself. But
today, in many communities, people aren't even aware that they have a local Rotary club. Not because the
clubs aren't strong, or because they aren't serving well. They are. But if Rotarians don't talk about their work,
people will never know about it.
It is time for us toLight Up Rotary and let people know what we are doing. In the first half of this Rotary year,
I've been thrilled to see how many Rotarians have taken up my Rotary Day challenge. I've attended Rotary
Days in so many places, including the Philippines, Korea, China, the United States, Turkey, India, Taiwan, Sri
Lanka, and Bangladesh. Every one has been different, and every one has met the challenge to Light Up Rota-
ry in its own way.
If you've organized a Rotary Day in your community, tell us about it: Email details and photos of your event to
[email protected], with "Rotary Day" as your subject line. We'll do our best to feature as many Rotary Days
as possible in the coming months.
And if you haven't planned a Rotary Day yet, why not? It's a great way to share your love for Rotary with your
community. When we tell others about Rotary and let them know how membership can enrich their lives, we
share a gift that was given to us when we were invited to join our clubs. By passing that gift on, we help ensure
that Rotary, and its service, will endure for generations to come.

TRUSTEE CHAIRS MESSAGE
JOHN KENNY
TRUSTEE CHAIR 2014-15
JANUARY 2015
January: In Roman times, this was symbolized by the two-headed god Janus one head
looking back and one head looking forward.
This is the time for us to take stock and see, of the goals we set for ourselves at the start
of the year, how many we have achieved, and how we can fully realize all of them by the
end of this Rotary year.
How are we meeting our goal of polio eradication? Did we encourage our district to give 20 percent of its District
Designated Fund toward the eradication of this terrible disease? Are we supporting National Immunization Days?
There is still much to do. The number of polio cases in Pakistan in 2014 far exceeded the number in 2013.
Have you made your contribution to our charity our only charity our Rotary Foundation? Have we impressed
on those Rotarians who have not made a contribution the need to do so? The number of Rotarians who have not
given to our Foundation far exceeds the number who have given, and we need to reverse that statistic. Our target
for the Annual Fund is US$123 million. Let us ensure that we reach it.
Have you considered taking advantage of the new grants program by using district or global grants? Last year, 858
district grants and 492 global grants were awarded.
Have you nominated a Rotary Peace Fellow candidate? Have you sought out a Major Donor to help fund the pro-
gram? Have you registered for the Rotary Peace Symposium, just prior to the Rotary International Convention in
So Paulo, Brazil, in June?
I have always held the belief that if the message of Rotary does not get to the Rotarian and the club, it loses its
thrust. The Rotary club is the heartbeat of Rotary. What you make of the remaining months of the year, as you en-
deavor toLight Up Rotary, is up to you.
My New Year best wishes.

Some Glimpses from the RC Yerevans Life- By DDG Margarit Piliposyan, RC Yerevan, Armenia
1. The Rotary Club of Yerevan continues the series of communi-
ty service projects to improve the lives of disadvantaged popula-
tion. The rural community of Rind is one of the villages RC Ye-revan is a frequent guest to. The
Club is discussing the project to
restore the irrigation system in
the village to increase crop and
develop wine production there.
Meanwhile, there are people in
the community, who need assis-
tance in very simple but so vital
for themselves things. To mark
the International Day of the
Disabled, the RC Yerevan, in
partnership with the Armenian
Association of the Disabled "Pyunic", delivered 9 wheel chairsto elderly in the community whod trouble moving around. The
wheelchairs were a pleasant surprise for Rind elderly with spinal
injuries. This small, but indeed, a very important project car-
ries a message that everyone has a right to live a dignified life.
Thanks to the partnership between the RC Yerevan and the Ar-
menian Association of the Disabled "Pyunic, nine people from
the village are integrated into and are full right members of the
society.
2. In September 2014, a delegation of Bahrain Rotarians headed
by the DG Khalil Alsharif, was on an official visit to Armenia
and Georgia. During their stay in Armenia, the delegation visited
one of the RC Yerevan project sites - a preschool day care center
in the town of Echmiadzin. The RC Yerevan project to renovate,
equip and furnish the kitchen that serves meals to 150 children
was in full swing. Thanks to the trip participants, the kindergar-
ten, along with a clean and modern kitchen, have a new piano.RC Yerevan thanks Bahrain Rotarians for the generous and the
most amazing New
Year gift - a new
piano. Today, the
children enjoy safe
and nutritious meals
cook at the state of
the art kitchen and
enjoy the resumed
music and dance
lessons.
