To Whom It May Concern,
I recently graduated from the University of Colorado-Denver with a Bachelor of Science degree
in mechanical engineering. I thrive on solving complex problems, analyzing data, and investigating and
applying new solutions. The engineering program has strengthened my engineering skills while
emphasizing a focus on biomechanics, new product design, and lean manufacturing. I worked nearly
full time while in school and was able to graduate with minimal debt while still maintaining strong
grades. These experiences have allowed me to prove myself as a driven and focused worker willing to
do whatever it takes to succeed.
In addition to being a devoted engineer, I also strive to be a respected leader and altruistic
team member. Through a multitude of management and leadership positions, from varsity captain to
project oversight, I have learned how to use my strengths and skills to cultivate strong teams as both
a passionate director and valued colleague. One recent opportunity I had to demonstrate these skills
was as the nominated astronomy club president responsible for fundraisers, community charity
events, and club activities.
I recently had an opportunity to showcase my engineering knowledge and skills through the
design and manufacture of a diesel prototype vehicle as part of a small senior design team. Our team
independently fundraised over $10,000, designed a fully encompassing CAD model of all components,
and custom fabricated the majority of parts, in order to construct an ultra-efficient diesel vehicle for
an international invitational competition in only 5 months. Given my strong background in
management and strong engineering background, I was elected as the team manager for this project
and was able to accomplish this massive venture both on time and under budget with limited
resources.
I will work diligently to ensure that I become an influential and valued member of your company
and will commit to bringing added energy, passion and knowledge to your team. Please do not hesitate
to contact me for any additional information. I would love the opportunity to meet with you in person
to address any follow-up questions you may have. Thank you for your time and consideration of my
qualifications.
Best regards,
Douglas B. Fisher
