The DFG – About Us


►The DFG is the largest independent research funding organisation in Germany.

► It is an association under German private law.

► It serves all branches of science and the humanities by funding research projects.

► It encourages the advancement and training of early-career researchers.

In 2018, the DFG’s budget totalled approximately € 3.4 billion.

In that year, the DFG funded around 33,200 projects:

►who would like to work in Germany

►Open, bottom-up choice of research topics

►Basic research in any field of science and the humanities

► Individual career phases and family-related career breaks are considered in the review process

► Early postdocs starting their research career withan independent research project

► Supporting mobility: moving on to a new host institution in Germany or abroad



► Funding for two years● Abroad: fellowship.

● In Germany: position (or position for temporarysubstitutes for clinicians)

→ option to combine periods at different places

► Allowance for direct project costs: 250 €/month

► Your host institution● needs to provide additional projects costs and

consumables

● In Germany a researcher at the host institution agreesto support and advise you to qualify for a researchcareer

leading own independent junior research group

Requirements► Postdoctoral research experience of at least 2 and max. 4 years

(medicine: up to 6 years), +2 years per child► Substantial international research experience

► Your host institution in Germany becomes your employer

► Funding● for 6 years● TVöD/TV-L E-15 position, or position for

temporary substitutes for clinicians● project funds
