Core subjects: English now offers GCSE Media. Maths offers module 1 of GCSE. Science plans to offer ELC, Core GCSE, Applied GCSE, BTEC,
Diploma and Sep. (May also offer Alt GCSE such as L&E, Ast, Psychology and or AS Applied). Planning commenced prior to 21st LA engagement but has developed significantly since.
Options: Currently only Technology is offered to high achieving Yr 9
pupils. We will also offer: Art (Fine, text and photography), Music, PE, Business Studies
and Child Development as a Yr 9 option. Technology will develop to also offer Food Technology in
addition to Resistant Materials. This supports the introduction of AS Tech.
Due to the integration of OM in Yr 7, some subjects such as History and Geography cannot offer early entry GCSE in Yr 9 as they already have a 2-year condensed curriculum running Yr 8 – 9.
This means Yr 9 pupils will still have a broad and balanced yet innovative curriculum as they will be participating in these subjects / core subjects while specialising in one option area. This is perfect as it supports pupils in reviewing their options as an on-going process.
In order to support and staff the new Yr 9 curriculum there will be a new 4 hour option block over 1 year. This will have up to 13 classes for 180 pupils.

Parents informed of changes on dedicated page of website and in next news letter. Pupils in assembly.
Official launch at next option evening or special one-off evening for Yr 9.
Options booklets with overview information will be printed and presented electronically- completed on-line. Form tutors will initially review these with MAG’s and discuss with pupils informing them of changes where appropriate.
Pupils will select a first & second choice which will then be locked down for review by NPR, TCO, BPA & SJO following FT feedback which will involve parental dialogue at AMD thus supporting home – school engagement.
AH (NPR) will coordinate options and be main contact while working directly with TCO (TT and CM.) SJO supports.
We believe the main impact of these measures will be improved motivation resulting in improved progress which will impact on attainment & achievement.
While progress, A&A are central to government agenda and in a way easier to measure and analyse, we will also measure the impact on motivation by capturing evidence in the form of digital media using new Flip cameras- purchased using 21st LA funding.
These will be used to record pupil work including that in the class. They will also be used to record pupil interviews and assessment data. Overall, we will collect and collate a variety of media to produce digital documentaries.
We also plan to introduce a Yr 8 / 9 “graduation” prom which we believe will help focus and motivate pupils.
