Introduction
This Development Kit is for volunteers, partner agencies, and NGOsto guide you through the development process of convertingInstructor Led Courseware into effective eLearning. This guidewas created for the following reasons:
Ensure we build courses with a good user experience
Building courses that can be shared across NGOs
Providing volunteers with a good experience
Gaining efficiencies in building content faster Ensuring courses can be modified in future versions
Because each development project is different, we decided againstlabeling the responsibilities of the NGO vs. the volunteers. Theimportant part is that all processes are completed, not who doesthem.
We have made every attempt to create as complete ofdevelopment kit as possible but we recognize that there is alwaysroom for improvements. If you have suggestions for improvement please contact thefollowing:
Linda English - [email protected]
Prerequisites for using this guide

Note: If you cant answer all these questions,
then you need to address them with yourLearning Development Team.
2. Send this information to LindaEnglish. LINGOs will then review thedocument for the following criteria:
a. Shareability with otherNGOsb. Priority against other projectsc. Availability of volunteers towork on the project.
You should receive a response back within 2weeks of the status of your project. At thispoint, we need to assign the projectmanager and start to recruit the LearningDevelopment Team who works on theproject.
3. Host the pre-Kick Off Meeting to setexpectations of both the process and to helpeducate stakeholders in the lead agency on

Phase 2 Design
During this phase, the instructional designerflushes out the content and defines the differentapproaches or instructional strategies used tomeet the learning objectives. For example, using case studies to illustrate a specific point, creating a test that helps verify knowledge, etc.The instructional designer does this throughcreating a design document.
The key questions that get answered during thisphase:
How should the content be divided intological units?
How long will it take a student tocomplete each unit?
What are the objectives for each of theseunits?
What instructional strategies can be usedto reach these objectives?
After the design document has been approved, then the instructional designer defines how thecontent will be divided, screen by screen, including how to make the training engagingthrough interacting with the participant.
Note: If you have well proven and developedcontent, then consider if you need a designphase. If you are making major changes to thestructure or the approach of the training, then
you will want to create a design document andask the Subject Matter Experts, stakeholders, and sample participants to review this.

design document.
Checkpoint: Design Document lead agency sign-off
1. Develop a Storyboard
??? Are we confusing people with the idea of ascript and a storyboard?
Articulate is designed to allow you to develop astoryboard in PowerPoint, using the notes
section then generate directly a storyboarddocument in MS-Word.
Begin by using the notes section in PowerPointto develop your script.
The script will later be used to record the audiooption for the course. Once you have completedadding the script to all slides, you can generatethe storyboard.

a prototype will allow you to validate thefollowing with your sponsor:
User Interface
Finished course look and feel
Test LMS integration
Note: You should create your prototype assoon as you have defined all the majorelements of your training. You can create andtest the prototype while writing the storyboard.
To create a rapid prototype in Articulate open
your PowerPoint content file and select arepresentative sub-section of the content (6-10slides).
Using your storyboard as a guide, record thenarration.
For additional information on recordingnarration please see pages 15 -25, in theArticulate Presenter 5 Documentation.
After you have completed recording narrationsave and publish the file. If you are planning onpublishing to multiple format (Web, SCORM,AICC, CD) generate a prototype in each formatfor testing purposes.
For additional information on recordingpublishing your course please see pages93 - 112, in the Articulate Presenter 5Documentation.

Web objects (pages 61-69, in ArticulatePresenter 5 Documentation)
Once you have enhanced the course content.
Record the audio, using your storyboard script
as a guide.
For additional information on recordingnarration please see pages 15 -25, in theArticulate Presenter 5 Documentation.

Step 4 - Implement
LMS Deployment
Articulate will support both AICC and SCORMoutput which should allow integration with mostLMSs
Follow instructions on publishing to anLMS see pages 98 103 in ArticulatePresenter 5 Documentation.
???? Contact Dan Sherman to have your courseuploaded. This also need to include thediscussion on how to hand off source files.
CD-ROM Deployment
Articulate will support publishing to CD or anetwork shared drive.
Follow instructions on publishing to CDsee pages 105 107 in ArticulatePresenter 5 Documentation.
Rollout Plan
With any eLearning project it is important that arollout plan is developed, this is especiallycritical if this will be the first exposure toeLearning for all or part of your audience.
For audiences where this is the first exposure toeLearning, it is recommended that the initialcourses are held in a instructor facilitatedenvironment whenever possible. This allows theinstructor to explain the navigation, assessbasic computer skills and provide directassistance to the learners as needed. In additionit insures that the learner has a good firstexperience with eLearning.

Course Evaluations
Articulate Quiz Marker provides options fordeveloping on-line surveys and courseevaluations.
For instructions in the use of this toolplease review the Articulate Quiz Maker2 Documentation
The data collected from these evaluationsshould be used as input into future courseupdates and enhancements.
Course Maintenance
An agreed course review and maintenancecycle and process should be agreed anddocumented with your course sponsor.
For all courses developed for LINGOs andLINGOs members the following files must beprovided to LINGOs upon completion of thecourse.
