DEVELOPMENT BOOK

Page 2: Development Book

Rachel Irvin is an 18 year old designer and seamstress who loves travel and adventure.

She is from Alabaster, Alabama and has been sewing for over 6 years. With a passion

for film and theater, she plans on being a costume designer. She enjoys mixing hands-

on skill with technical business, and does not mind hard work to achieve success.

Although young, she has already gained costuming experience by designing and

sewing for 2 private theater groups, and briefly interning at Alabama Shakespeare

Festival Theatre. She would love to work at Disney World or for a major film company.

BIO PROJECTS

This assignment allowed the designers to be inspired by a collection of images which were then translated into fabrics, colors,

and finally designs. The country of India provdided most of the inspiration, and then flats from WGSN.com were implimented.

The garments in this collection balance structure and free-flowing, providing contrast and variety. The target customer is a young

lady, mid to late 20s who enjoys travel and adventure. While she may be holding a professional job in the U.S., her heart lies in India.

P’s and Q’s pre-fall collection was greatly influenced by elegant women of the 1950s. A neutral color palette with minimal patterns was

implemented. The P’s and Q’s customer brings the elegance of 1950’s fashions to her daily life. As this collection is dated for delivery

in pre-fall, there is a small collection of jackets and capes to compliment and add warmth to the large selection of dresses. Gathering

inspiration from movies such as Sabrina and To Catch a Thief, 50’s elegance has been made accessible to today’s stylish woman.

Mrs. Amanda Fowler is a 35 year old lady who enjoys cooking, tennis and philanthropic

endeavors. She loves dresses and a 50’s style silhouette and enjoys looking elegant whatever the

occasion. Mostly preferring neutrals, there is little color in her closet. Stores with obvious swank

are repulsive to her, and she prefers stores with understated elegance. She prefers modesty over

exposure, and likes to show off little other than her legs. Just like the classic stars, she puts

emphasis on fit, tailoring, and frame. Trends and colors are not something Mrs. Folwer focuses

on. Being a confident woman, she buys and wears what she likes, stating that, “if I like something

enough, I will find a time/place to wear it.” Emulating the styles of Grace Kelly and Audrey

Hepburn, Mrs. Fowler is a well dressed woman with a discerning eye for the elegant and tasteful.

These flats were to represent the P’s and Q’s pre-fall collection. First they were hand drawn with the guidance of a basic

croquis, and then scanned into a computer. The flats were then edited in Adobe Illustrator when a background was added.

Swatches, fabrication, price, and colors were also added to better describe the garment.
