Dear Parents, I also welcome you back to Term 3 as Chris Taylor did last week and look forward to a wonderful ‘Musical Term.’ This is always an exciting time of the year for our school community and I am sure the slight changes made this year and the closeness of the venue will be welcomed by you all. Musical Production
“Once upon an Epic Quest” Our production will be during week 8 of term 3 3rd – 5th September It is always a wonderful opportunity and event for our students to showcase their talent and develop their performing arts skills. The rehearsals for class songs and dances will commence next week. The times are Mondays 9:00 – 9:30 and Tuesdays 2:40 – 3:15. You would have received guidelines for your child’s costume in their reports handed out last term. Tickets will be going on sale Monday 29th July at 9.00am via Try Booking. Notes will be sent home on Friday 26th July.
Parent Survey If you are one of the lucky ones to receive this survey you will know by now and I thank the 13 people who have submitted their responses already. We sent out 154 requests and would love to pass the 100 mark of people filling this survey in. This would to give us a great representation of your community’s thoughts about our wonderful school. The closing date is Sunday 11th August, so I encourage you to get straight onto it and send us your thoughts. Reading is Amazing Fun! The improvement of our students’ reading skills is a major focus for Kilberry Valley and we really look forward to seeing this occur this year. I remind you that the library is now open before school – 8:30 – 8:50 on Mondays and Wednesdays and after school till 4pm on a Monday and Wednesday. Parents are invited to attend these sessions with their child to sit and read together and borrow books. 100 Days of School This milestone was celebrated today (Wednesday) by our Year 1 and 2 students. The count down is an exciting time and the students highlight their love of numbers by celebrating this event!

All The Best Some of our students are representing Kilberry Valley Primary School in competitions today. Our AFL team of Year 5 and 6 students are competing in the Divisional Finals and a selected number of our Year 3 and 4 students are competing in the Hoop Time Basketball competition. On Friday our Year 6 Girls Soccer team will also be representing our school. I wish all these teams a wonderful experience and know you will represent Kilberry Valley PS very well indeed. Have fun! Footy News
Go you wonderful Hawkers!!! What a win against top placed Geelong. I was not really confident but it is always a great game between the Cats and the Hawks and this one was certainly another tremendous contest. The Hawks now travel to Tasmania for a shot at the Lions. Certainly an inform side and sitting 2nd on the ladder. We knocked off the first team …. so why not be confident we can beat the 2nd placed team? Go Hawkers!
To close today, I inform you once again that I am taking further leave. I will return on Monday 12th August. Mrs Taylor will be Acting Principal during my absence. Have a great week and keep smiling! Neil Cunningham Principal

Throughout Term 3 the students in Year 4 will be studying
Australian History with a focus on European settlement in
Australia. Within this topic, students have been learning about
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders connection to the land.
Together they had an opportunity to view the importance of art as
a way of aboriginal story telling. They described a story with
symbols to create their own rock paintings.
OUR FOCUS THIS FORTNIGHT:
Respecting the rights of others
Including others
Embracing diversity
Supporting others to be involved
Encouraging others
Helping others to feel safe
Telling the truth
Admitting mistakes
HUMAN RIGHTS
VALUES @ KVPS
To help create a sustainable environment Kilberry Valley Primary School has gone
wrapper free EVERYDAY!
What does it look like?
A “wrapper free” lunch box is one that has no plastic wrappers or rubbish that goes to landfill. Use re-useable containers and re-use snap lock bags to build a healthy and rubbish free lunch box. And remember, fruit scraps are not included as rubbish! Kilberry Valley Primary School has a composting program to reduce landfill and to educate students about sustainability.

At Kilberry Valley Primary School, we
believe that student success is dependent
upon good attendance at school. Students
need to attend school regularly in order to
participate fully and gain maximum benefit
from their schooling. Daily attendance
enables students to access a full
education, allowing them to reach their full
potential. Students with poor patterns of
attendance in primary school usually have
poor patterns in secondary school and
often disengage from school. There is a
direct link between school attendance and
achievement in later life. Poor attendance
also makes it difficult for children to form
positive relationships with their peers
therefore, we feel that regular attendance
is essential for KVPS students.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training
that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school
climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to
the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22nd July to Sunday 11th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any
convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
How to help your child with their reading…
Activities after reading
After reading, check your child’s comprehension
by asking them to complete one of these
activities: Draw your favourite character.
Draw the setting of the story.
Retell the story by drawing what happened first… next… finally.
Draw another page of the story showing what might
happen next.
Older students can write sentences to match their drawing.
These recommended books are brought to you by students at Kilberry Valley:
P-2 – Frida and Bear Play the Shape Game! by Anthony Browne 3-6 – Girlz Rock! and Boyz Rule! series books
CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR STUDENTS
We would like to remind parents to provide a change of clothing in children’s
school bags—preferably some clean underwear, track suit pants,
windcheater, shorts or a dress.
This is handy for ALL children in ALL grade levels .
We ask for your co-operation with this matter as our Sick Bay is unable to cope
with the large volume of people requiring changes of clothing.
One of our children in the school community is receiving medical
treatment which puts them at serious risk if they are exposed to
infectious illnesses, in particular: Chicken -Pox, Measles,
Mumps or Shingles.
It is also important that while your child is unwell they remain at home until they
are no longer contagious. Please let us know immediately by calling
the school office on 9702 8688.
As a school community we value your support in relation to the wellbeing of
all our students.
Any parent who wishes to help out in
our classrooms or on excursions, must provide a current Working With Childrens Card (WWCC) to the office.
On the day you come to assist, please come
through the office and sign in using the visitors kiosk you will be given a “Classroom helper Privacy Agreement” to read and sign.
Please ensure you bring your Working With
Childrens Card with you, to display in our lanyard, which you will wear while in the
classroom or on excursions.
If your child is absent from school, please ring the office on 9702 8688
before 9.30am on the morning of the absence or notify us by e-mail
