Connecticut State University System RESOLUTION Developing a State of Minds honoring EVERETT CONDIT on receipt of the CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM FOUNDATION HENRY BARNARD AWARD April 5,2001 WHEREAS, The Connecticut State University System Foundation has voted to confer its Henry Barnard Award on twelve Connecticut State University System students in their final semester of undergraduate study, and WHEREAS, The 12 recipients have been selected from approximately 4,000 graduating seniors, and WHEREAS, The criteria for selection for this award include service to family, university or community, as well as outstanding academic achievement, and WHEREAS, Everett Condit, a Technology Education major at Central Connecticut State University with a GPA of 3.8, spent three years planning and participating as an inspector for Central's Alternative Energy Vehicle Contest; was a member of the School of Technology Solar Electric Research Team, creating a solar/electric- powered vehicle that competed in the New York to Washington, DC, Tour de Sol; was a member of several student and professional organizations and actively participates in events including judging the Trinity Fire-fighting Robot contest and the New Britain Middle School CO, Car Race; competes in the Technology Education Collegiate Association regional and national competitions; donates time working for Habitat for Humanity, and WHEREAS, Everett Condit has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Award, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut State University System commends Mr. Condit for his academic and service achievements, congratulates him on receipt of the Henry Ba happy and successful future. WHEREAS, Alison DeSimone, an Anthropology major with concentration in Women's Studies, graduated from Central Connecticut State University in December 2000 with a 3.91 GPA; and has shown a commitment to understanding and addressing the conditions of domestic violence against women, traveling to Ghana as part of the Anthropology Department Study Abroad program to research domestic violence against women in African society; on her own initiative developed a domestic violence internship with the Prudence Crandall Center in New Britain (where she continues to volunteer); was awarded State certification as a Domestic Violence Counselor; volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Belen, Mexico, where she helped construct new housing for homeless Mexican workers, and

WHEREAS, Alison DeSimone has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Award, therefore, be it

Durante, a Nursing major at Central Connecticut State University with a 3.94 GPA, entered Central after receiving his Associate Degree and completing his State Board of Nursing Examiners Licensure Exam; as a result of his outstanding academic achievements, has received several awards, including the Connecticut League for Nursing Award for Accountability, Commitment and Nursing Care; is an active volunteer in several professional nursing organizations and an avid volunteer in his community, including assistant coach of the Water-Oak Little League; is an AIDS Project Names volunteer; works full time while attending Central, receiving three promotions at the Cheshire- Waterbury area of the Northwest Region of the State Department of Mental Retardation, where he is presently Acting Supervisor, and

a Connecticut State University with a 3.92 GPA, first enrolled at Western as a part- time student, attaining her Bachelors of Art degree in Psychology in 1996 with a 3.72 GPA; while completing her degree, worked full time and had two children; after graduation returned to Western in the evenings while working towards a degree in Chemistry; while pursuing her degree has held the positions of secretary, vice-president and president of the Chemistry Club; while vice- president the club implemented a free tutoring program for students and presented a chemistry demonstration to local elementary schools and as a result, the Chemistry Club received an Honorable Mention for the American Chemical Society; is presently a full-time chemist at Boehringer Ingelheim, and

a with a 3.89 GPA, enrolled part time at Norwalk Community Technical College five years after competing high school; transferred to Western in 1998 where he is a member of the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society, serving as chapter vice- president; was honored as the "Outstanding Junior in Psychology;" while living on campus served as a resident assistant; dedicated much of his free time during the past 11 years to volunteering with youth retreats and youth groups, taking on roles including organizing retreats, motivational speaking and serving on the board of directors, and

Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Awards

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Awards were established in 1989 to honor twelve graduating seniors annually from the Connecticut State University System. These outstanding students have attained a grade point average of at least 3.7 while voluntarily serving the university and the community. The recipients are selected from over 4,000 graduating seniors from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, and Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

CHANCELLOR'S RECOMMENDATION

Recognition by the Board of Trustees of the twelve Connecticut State University System students recommended for the Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award.
