WHY WE SHOULD FOCUS ONVETERANS’ MENTAL HEALTHVeterans of working-age are morelikely to report depression than thegeneral population. Some also sufferanxiety and post-traumatic stressdisorder (PTSD), which may involvealcohol or drug misuse.

There is also growing evidence that a range of mental health conditionsmay appear many years after veterans leave the services. Someveterans are reluctant to seek help and others may not knowwhere to go for help.

WHAT DO WE WANT YOU TO DO?We want you to share your views and experiences of mental healthservices for veterans by filling in our questionnaire on the internet atwww.engage.england.nhs.uk/survey/veterans-mental-health-services

The services we want to hear about are on the back of this leaflet. Ifyou don’t want to fill in the questionnaire, but would still like to giveus your views, you can contact us as shown below. You can also usethese details to ask us to post you a questionnaire.

WHO WE WANT TO HEAR FROM•Have you served in the armed

forces, whether as a reservist or regular?

•Have you used, or are you currently using, mental healthservices for veterans?

•Do you know someone who has?

•Do you work for an organisationthat is providing mental health carefor veterans?

If yes, we want to hear your views.

We would also like to hear fromveterans with mental healthdifficulties who have not sought orreceived support and treatment.

WHY WE WANT YOUR OPINIONS AND IDEAS The NHS provides 12 mental health services across England specificallyfor veterans.

They enable specialist staff to care for veterans with mental healthneeds, direct them to the most appropriate service and give themeffective treatment.

Most of the contracts for these services are due to end in September 2016. So this gives us an opportunity to ask you what you think of them.

What you say will help us build on the strengths of our current mentalhealth services for veterans and develop our future services.
