Developing Businesses, People and Communities through High-Impact Solutions
To say that 2020 was an extraordinary year is quite the understatement. Shortly after celebrating CBM
Training’s 20 year anniversary, we went into the nation-wide lockdown.
This year tested businesses, communities, and individuals to the extreme. Surviving these overwhelming
times require resilience, creativity, efficiency, effectiveness, and collaboration. Like any other major change,
the pandemic and resultant lockdown put pressure on us all to shift our outdated mindsets, challenge
historical beliefs (relying on remote working, for example), and develop new skill sets to remain relevant
and effective in a post Covid-19 world.
As a provider of various development solutions, CBM Training stepped up to assist and support
businesses, communities, and individuals in navigating these challenging times. By providing our clients
with flexible, agile solutions we were able to continue our work during, and post, the lockdown.
We successfully transitioned many of our clients and delegates onto online learning platforms while
maintaining the quality of our training. We continued with our community development projects by even
using platforms such as WhatsApp, ensuring accessibility for all, so that training could continue virtually.
Even during these challenging times our business continues to grow. We have successfully extended the
range of our accredited offerings by adding new skills programs and qualifications to our portfolio, including
our New Venture Creation qualification. Geographically, we expanded the work we do into Egypt and
Zambia with many more to follow. With our new and dynamic delivery methodology, geographical
boundaries are a thing of the past.
As we navigate this new world we live in, CBM Training is always ready to support your development:
Communities – creating sustainable solutions with measurable impact
Businesses – working in partnership to assist in ensuring you achieve your objectives
Me – assisting individuals in making sure their skills remain relevant.
We look forward to being a trusted partner in your continued growth and success.

Skills development is often mistakenly regarded as a luxury expense instead of a
business investment. Never has there been a greater need and urgency to
prioritise skills development. Until now. Events in the past year have significantly
disrupted the world of work. Businesses must adapt and evolve with these
changes, to remain relevant, and meet changing customer demands.
Technological advancements brought on by the 4th industrial revolution and the outbreak of the
COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the business environment and global economy.
Organisations in all industries have been affected and it’s become crystal clear that the face of
business has changed. These events have dramatically shaped our world and at a very rapid rate,
influencing the behaviour and functionality of people, businesses, and their communities.
COVID-19 and the lockdown are having a
devastating impact on economies worldwide.
Many countries GDP rates have significantly
declined, some industries have been destroyed
and the unemployment rate has risen sharply.
One could also arguably say that COVID-19
has fast-forwarded the 4th Industrial
Revolution, as our reliance on technology has
dramatically increased. Businesses are now
forced to think and operate differently.
Company structures and their workforces need
to become more agile, flexible, and resilient to
retain their clients and survive this current
global crisis.
Reliance on technology might be growing in
the workplace, but it doesn’t mean that the
importance of human skills is on the decline.
In fact, it’s the complete opposite!
According to the World Economic Forum, there
is a growing demand for professionals to
continuously learn and develop vital soft, hard,
and technological skills. Upskilling is a
necessity to stay relevant in our digitally
disrupted world. There is a desperate need for
vocational skills, which are in high demand, but
are in short supply worldwide, particularly in
developing economies.

CBM Training offers a wide range of in-demand short skills courses. We
offer various short courses in Management, Soft Skills, Business,
Financial, Specialist and Secretarial training, as well as Specialised and
Computer Skills training programmes. CBM Training frequently hosts
Masterclass guru events and symposiums throughout the year, presented
by special guest speakers and industry leaders. Each course is carefully
researched and developed according to current market challenges. The
highly intensive and practical nature of our training interventions ensure that
delegates can easily acquire and transfer their new skills back into the
workplace to make a sustainable impact and improve their professional
development. All our short courses are available either through traditional
face-to-face classroom-based learning or via blended online learning.
Courses are scheduled on specific dates for public training, but are also
available on demand for onsite clients who prefer additional flexibility and
customisation with regards to the date and time, venue and structure of
their training. Many of our short courses are also aligned to accredited
SETA unit standards. For an additional fee, delegates can register for an
accredited option to attempt the assessment and earn credits towards a
SETA accredited national qualification.
Learnerships are theoretical and workplace learning programmes which
offer several substantial benefits. These comprehensive solutions not only
upskill individuals and give them an opportunity to earn a national
qualification, but businesses can also earn B-BBEE, tax and financial
benefits too. CBM Training is one of South Africa’s market leaders in
Guided RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) Learnerships, which are
available either as public or onsite training. We also offer Full
Learnerships for selected programmes, which are useful for learners who
are starting out in their respective learning discipline. CBM Training offers
learnerships in Generic Management, Project Management, Business
Administration Services, New Venture Creation, Welding, Construction
and Manufacturing. All our learnerships are 12-months in duration and
consist of engaging and practical contact sessions, facilitated by seasoned
and expert facilitators. On successful completion, delegates will earn a
nationally accredited SETA qualification.
Skills Programmes: If clients prefer to ‘break up’ vocational learnerships, we
also offer short skills programmes. These accredited programmes contribute
several credits and allow delegates to focus on specific learning areas.

Are you struggling to navigate or interpreted the complexities surrounding
“bursary spend” as per current the B-BBEE codes or classifications?
One of the many support and solution functions that CBM Training has to
offer are Bursaries. CBM offers a variety of bursary spend options, though
our network of partners registered with the CHE and DHET. These options
include a variety of Higher Certificates and Diplomas, and could even
include sponsoring a student’s accommodation at University.
Many students require significant financial support in order to complete their
studies and this is where companies who establish bursary programmes
can step in to save the day, helping current and future employees on their
journey to success.
Skills development can be a lucrative investment, with long-term benefits, if
it is mutually beneficial for individuals and their company. Yet if the wrong
programmes are selected, it can be a costly expense. Before making your
skills development investment, CBM Training can help you with a
comprehensive skills and needs analysis. Our consultants help you remove
the risks involved with selecting training programmes. This skills audit of
your workforce’s capabilities can help you make more calculated decisions
surrounding your organisation’s skills development initiatives, and pinpoint
exactly who needs what type of training, to improve your organisation’s
efficiency and your workforce’s development. More importantly, our
comprehensive skills analysis gives your guideline on how to go about
filling all the skills gaps which currently exist in your organisation.
12
Company Profile
For many HR professionals, preparing their workplace skills plan (WSP)
and annual training report (ATR) is one of the most stressful exercises. It
shouldn’t be. Our consultants can eliminate the stress of this daunting task
by assisting you to complete your WSP and ATR comprehensively and in
advance. We will help you to prioritise your organisation’s staff
development programmes for the year ahead; and maximise opportunities
for potential training grants and tax rebates which can be claimed from your
training spend, by achieving WSP and ATR compliance.
Our consultants’ expert advice will ensure that you can look forward to this
annual event with confidence, and that your organisation can achieve
compliance with the maximum benefits that will improve your workforce’s
abilities and your cash flow.
Transformation and achieving B-BBEE targets is a top-of-mind issue for
South African businesses. Although SETA funding has decreased in the
past year, the requirement to maintain and improve B-BBEE ratings
remain. Local and international companies operating in South Africa need
to maintain their B-BBEE compliance in order to grow and succeed in the
South African landscape. Our knowledgeable team of B-BBEE experts can
advise you how to maximise each of the B-BBEE elements on your
scorecard, what level you need to (and realistically can) aim for to be
competitive in your industry, and which procedures and solutions you
should consider to achieve your B-BBEE objectives.
Our consultants can provide expert advice and recommendations on the
Ownership, Skills Development, Employment Equity, Enterprise
Development and Socio-Economic Development elements on your B-
BBEE scorecard. Furthermore, our consultants can help you earn
additional bonus points to further bump up your B-BBEE level and make
your organisation more attractive for new business opportunities.

Company Profile
Student recruitment and placement is often one of the biggest
headaches for businesses sponsoring students on learnerships. Since there
is a practical workplace element that is a prerequisite requirement for SETA
accreditation, all students must gain access to workplace experience to
meet the relevant criteria to complete their respective learnership and be
deemed competent. CBM Training can partner with clients and assist them
through our student placement initiative, to ensure that none of our learners
are ever left behind in their efforts to complete their qualifications.
Did you know?CBM Training can also assist clients to recruit prospective students or
unemployed youth for skills programmes or learnership initiatives, if they
are sponsoring a skills development initiative.
CBM Training is committed to transformation and helping aspiring small
businesses start up and thrive in a demanding environment. We offer a
variety of comprehensive solutions, to allow our clients the opportunity to
contribute towards and benefit from enterprise and supplier development
(ESD). Enterprise and Supplier Development is a critical element on your
B-BBEE scorecard, so investing in it not only demonstrates your
commitment to transformation, and improves the quality of delivery from
your suppliers; but it can improve your B-BBEE rating as well as provide tax
rebates for your company. Our New Venture Creation learnership is an
attractive ESD solution which can help small and growing businesses find
their feet and provide entrepreneurs with confidence to transform their
startup into a successful SME. Apart from improving your organisation’s
B-BBEE rating, our ESD solutions can open doors for new business
opportunities and help stimulate vital economic growth.
Unemployment, inequality, poverty, and food security are significant socio-
economic challenges in sub-Saharan African economies. If your
organisation is committed to making a genuine impact and improve your
community’s situation, CBM Training can assist. We can help your
organisation maximise its CSI spend and ensure it is utilised
effectively, to make a genuine and measurable impact to uplift
individuals and their local communities. CBM Training’s high-impact
solutions equip individuals with scarce and critical skills that encourage
sustainable development, job creation and food security. Our consultants
can help you measure the effectiveness of your CSI spend, and earn
several B-BBEE and tax benefits from your CSI initiatives. Our professional
consultants can also assist with baseline studies for community
development, impact mapping and impact reporting to ensure your CSI
initiatives forge a stronger bond with your stakeholders, and uplift
individuals with skills that will make an immediate and sustainable impact.
Jobs are changing at an increasingly rapid rate meaning that traditional
training can’t always fill specific skills gaps. To overcome this, CBM
Training offers a more holistic approach to professional development,
through practical one-on-one skills coaching.
Our professional skills coaches are all highly experienced experts in their
field, who can assist individuals to enhance a specific core skill they need in
order to perform their job more efficiently, and to achieve their targets and
objectives. Our virtual one-on-one skills coaching provides you with a
structured but highly flexible, and ‘just-in-time’ skills development solution.
Clients can book a specific timeslot with our professional coaches at their
convenience, allowing you to enhance your skills at a time that fits in with
your schedule.
15
Various CSI and social development initiatives our clients engage in,
require comprehensive evidence and proof that on successful completion,
they make a positive and real-life impact towards growing people and their
communities.
CBM Training has adopted a ‘people-centric’ impact reporting approach,
to ensure your company’s developmental solutions are measurable, have a
genuine impact, and improve the lives of individuals and the prosperity of
local communities. Our three-step process is completely transparent and it
ensures your company can comprehensively demonstrate the sustainability
and growth generated from your CSI and developmental initiatives.
CBM Training’s impact reporting process ensures value creation and
results, allowing your business to showcase the success and full impact of
your developmental projects to attract clients and prospective investors.
Company Profile
16
CBM Training’s skills development offerings aren’t
temporary quick fixes, but rather lasting sustainable
solutions which provide our clients with significant and
lasting benefits. All our solutions are designed specifically
with each client’s best interests in mind, to optimise your
workforce’s ability with skills development solutions that are
in line with current and future industry demands.
All our solutions and procedures are placed directly under
the microscope to ensure high quality control standards are
met the course outcomes are inline with our clients specific
needs and best interests.
A Theory of Change is developed and some questions that our experts ask and answer during this phase are as
follows: What developmental opportunities exist in the community? What socio-economic needs do community
members have? What obstacles might there be that can hinder development?
The Socio-Economic Baseline Study aims to reveal the socio-economic landscape within the targeted community.
To gain a full understanding of the socio-economic landscape, developmental opportunities and challenges.
The final phase of the process entails the writing up of the impact the project has had and it comes in the form of
an Impact Report. The Impact Report is a comprehensive document that can be used by our clients to distribute
to their investors, board members and even to the public.
