we cannot multiply healthy developing groups. We need to foster leadership

development, within community life.

What comes to mind when you hear coach?

Coaching helps people go from where they are to where they want to be. It is an action-oriented partnership that helps people stay focused on the results they

want to achieve. (Hawkins, 2005, p.297)

The art and practice of guiding a person or group from where they are toward the greater competence and fulfillment that they desire. (Collins, 2001, p. 16)

Christian coaching is a focused Christ-centered relationship that cultivates a person’s sustained growth and action. (Miller and Hall, 2007, p. 10)

• Coaching is an incarnational relationship between one leader and another that is intended to empower his or her life and ministry. (Ogne & Roehl, 2008, p. 26)

What is coaching?• It is an intentional relationship for

working out the implications of the gospel in a person’s life.

This relationship focuses on the transference of:

• character (being)

• knowledge (knowing)

• skills (doing)

•Feed (nourish, inspire, equip)

•Lead (invest, oversee, guide)

•Protect (comfort, fight)

• Tips for Asking Good Questions:• 1. Listen longer than you think.• 2. Say ‘Tell me more” and “What else . . . ?”• 3. Ask open-ended questions, primarily.• 4. Ask sub-surface questions.• 5. Listen closely and summarize.• 6. Kill the Me Monster!
