From Fr. Al Backmann, Parochial Administrator:

It is always difficult to say goodbye. Some"mes we have to say

goodbye to long"me friends and some"mes to shorter-term

rela"onships when we were just ge>ng to know the other person.

There is always sorrow in saying goodbye. The life of a priest is

filled with a series of goodbyes as he moves from assignment to

assignment. But it is also filled with JOY for all of the new friends

and acquaintances that are made.

And so, I must say goodbye to newly established rela"onships, to

people whom I have come to know and love here at Transfigura"on

Church and School. You are a gracious and grace-filled community.

You made my "me here so enjoyable. I want to thank the parish

staff and the school staff for your warm welcome. I want to thank

all of the staff and parishioners who helped with the liturgies and for

serving the parish in so many other ways through many ministries.

Over the past five months I have come to know many of you in the

parish. You reached out to me and welcomed me from the first day

and I thank you for that. You always had a happy smile as you came

through the doors of the church to a%end Mass. You reached out

and greeted me on the way out. The “li%le ones” would give me a

high-five or a hug and make my day. I was invited into your lives at

some to the most in"mate moments. We laughed together and we

cried together. I was there with some of you as you said a final

goodbye to your loved ones: your spouse, your parent, your child,

your rela"ve, your friend. I was privileged to be there to celebrate

with you the many joyous occasions such as full ini"a"on into the

Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, weddings, anniversaries,

bap"sms, and first communions. I was invited into

many of your homes and got to know you. But,

best of all, in addi"on to being invited into your

homes, you accepted me into your hearts. I cannot

tell you how special you have made me feel by

your warmth, by your welcoming and by your love.

Thank you for being part of my life, even for a li%le

while. May God bless each one of you.

Farewell Father Al!

On behalf of the staff of Transfigura%on, I wish to express gra%tude and thanksgiving to Father Al for his care and leadership over the past five months. Father Al provided a peaceful, calming, and always cheerful presence at a very difficult %me for us. We have been blessed by the opportunity to get to know him and to work alongside him. We will miss you Father Al, and we will miss your infec%ous laughter and smile! You will be in our prayers as you move on to your next assignment.

Memories of Father Al: “His story will make me a be=er person with the understanding that it will take work and prayer to achieve greatness.”

“I am so grateful to Father Al for his dedica%on to those who are in the greatest need of the Sacraments.”

“Father Al touched a grieving husband’s heart with words and understanding that allowed the man to con%nue to plan to put his beloved wife to rest. It was heartwarming to see the care he shared with grieving families.”

“Thank you for sharing your witness of the Catholic Faith with the school and faith forma%on students. They loved your visits!”

“I am so grateful for your teaching of the Gospel. You stressed how important it is to know Jesus by reading Scripture.”

“Father Al encouraged and honored our young servers and recognized them for their service and reverence to the Mass. He joyfully shared his voca%on to the priesthood with the children of our parish.”

“Father Al gave selflessly of his %me to meet the needs of those suffering from illnesses and those grieving the loss of loved ones. His response to God’s call is an inspira%on.”

Peter’s Pence Second Collec"on

Last weekend we held the annual Peter’s Pence Collec%on, a worldwide collec%on that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis. Your generosity allows the Pope to respond to our brothers and sisters who are suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and disease. We collected $2,361.31, thank you for your generosity!

"Charity is infec!ous, it excites, it risks and

it engages! For true charity is always unmerited,

uncondi!onal and gratuitous!"

Pope Francis, Homily, February 15, 2015

EXTREME FAITH CAMP

KIOSK HIGHLIGHT SAVE THE DATES

Remembering Our Story:

Evangeliza!on in America

During the 19th Century

by Emily S!mpson Chapman.

Catholicism in the United States

has a challenging but rich

history that is rarely told.

Emily S!mpson Chapman, an

experienced journalist and

the author of numerous books, tells of the triumphs and

obstacles that Catholics faced in the 1800s when

evangelizing. Emily’s telling of the immense struggles that

bishops, religious, and lay people endured to spread the

Gospel in the nineteenth century offers us relatable role

models and inspira!on as we face challenges in our own day.

This summer we brought

22 middle and high school

students to Extreme Faith Camp. Our theme for the week

was The Ba!le Belongs to the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47).

Throughout the week the students were able to strengthen

their trust in God through Mass, Confession, Eucharis!c

adora!on, and small discussion groups. We also had tons

of fun par!cipa!ng in a wide variety of camp ac!vi!es

including swimming, boa!ng, laser-tag and a zipline! We

have many opportuni!es for your children to con!nue to

deepen their faith and have some fun this summer:

Summer Stretch, The Father-Son Camping trip and more.

Please check out the youth ministry tab on our website

for details on all of these great

ac!vi!es!

WELCOME, FR. ERICKSON!

Next weekend is Fr. John Paul Erickson’s first

weekend at Transfigura!on. We are grateful that

Archbishop Hebda has entrusted Transfigura!on

to such a good and faithful priest. Please join us a%er

weekend Masses on July 7 and 8 for treats and a !me

to meet Fr. Erickson. Transfigura!on’s Men’s Group

will serve the refreshments. Thank you, gentlemen,

for your help in welcoming our new pastor!

CHOIR CAMP

On July 9-13, we will be holding our 4th annual Summer

Choir Camp for students in 4-12th grade (younger children

with Music Director approval). We have just a few spots

remaining, so don’t wait to register! Registra!on forms can

be found in the church Gathering Space or on the parish

website.

Please email Mary

Demko if you have

any ques!ons

about registra!on.

We look forward to

a wonderful camp!

FALL FESTIVAL UPDATE

Hi, everyone! The Fall Fes!val

Chairs have been working hard

the past few months to prepare

for the Fall Fes!val on Saturday,

September 8th. They are assisted

by "Co-Captains" who oversee

the various events for either the

1st half or the 2nd half of the

Fes!val. We are in need of a few

more people to step up as

Co-Captains of Bingo, Food Tent,

Yard Game Tournaments, and

Inflatables/Kids Games. Please let Mary Markert know if

you are interested or if you have any ques!ons. Thank you!

SCHOOL NEWS

“O how great is the priest! If he realized what he is he

would die… God obeys him: he u"ers a few words and the

Lord descends from Heaven at his voice, to be contained

within a small host. Without the Sacrament of Holy Orders,

we would not have the Lord. Who put him there in the

tabernacle? The priest. Who welcomed your soul at the

beginning of life? The priest. Who feeds your soul and

gives it strength for the journey? The priest. Who will

prepare it to appear before God, bathing it one last #me in

the blood of Jesus Christ? The priest - always the priest.

And if the soul should happen to die (as a result of sin)

who will raise it up, who will restore its calm and peace?

Again the priest. A$er God, the priest is everything.

Only in heaven will he fully realize what he is.”

St. John Vianney

On behalf of all the Liturgical Ministers, thank you, Fr. Al,

for your yes to Archbishop Hebda in answering the call to

walk with us and bring us to Jesus through the Sacraments

for the last 5 months. Please know of our con!nued

prayers for you as you begin your next assignment.

Totus Tuus 2018

We just finished a great week of Totus Tuus with over 100

thanks to our Totus Tuus
