Our Founder ~ Dr. Luc Chaltin (1923 - 2008)

In 1965, Belgian-born Luc Chaltin was gravely ill withtuberculosis. He could not tolerate the treatment attemptedby traditional medical doctors, and a well-respectedclassical homeopath told him that homeopathy could notcure tuberculosis. This life-threatening experience led himon his journey.

As fate would have it, his search led him to a book that explained the importanceof liver drainage, more commonly known as detoxification. He knew he had foundhis answer. Dr. Luc began using homeopathic remedies known to cleanse or "drain"the liver of toxins. As he continued his quest for health, he began to experiment bycombining homeopathic liver "drainers" with homeopathic remedies known tosupport excretory function. He soon developed a combination formula and labeledit “Drainer.” His condition quickly improved. Within six months, there was noevidence of tuberculosis.

Determined to continue his research and share his discovery with others, Dr. Lucsought additional learning opportunities. He earned a homeopathic diploma fromthe British Institute of Homeopathy and a degree in Naturopathy. He began to teachhomeopathy, lecture, write books and publish articles for scientific journals. Hefirmly believed in educating others and "paying it forward". During his career innatural health, Dr. Luc assisted in the healing of thousands of people throughoutthe United States, Europe and the Caribbean.

In 1987, Dr. Luc founded Newton Laboratories, Inc. and began to market anover-the-counter version of his “Drainer” as NEWTON’s Detoxifier. Heintroduced Detoxifier, along with other unique formulations, to health food stores,holistic practitioners and retail customers. His formulations focus on the liver andkidneys while addressing symptoms of acute and chronic illness. The theory ofdetoxification for overcoming toxic, chronic afflictions remains at the forefront ofholistic healing methods today. All NEWTON complexes continue to be developedusing his unique methods.

At Amsterdam’s 1992 International Conference on AIDS, one of Dr. Luc’s paperson “auto-immune” diseases was presented by noted scientific author, ChristopherBird. In 1993, Dr. Luc served on a special committee established to review grantapplications for the Office of Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes ofHealth (NIH). He was invited to participate due to his “…knowledge of alternativemedicine and [his] ability to bring rigorous scientific standards to the review ofthese types of applications.”

To aid in the promotion of homeopathy and the education of others, Dr. Lucestablished The American Academy of Clinical Homeopathy (AACH).Hundreds of health food store personnel and lay people have completed the AACHCertification in Basic Homeopathic Principles, and have gone on to promotehealing through clinical homeopathic methods. Today, the AACH has a staff ofeducators, support personnel and graduates who are embracing and continuing Dr.Luc's vision for educating the masses in this valuable healing method.

In 2004, at the age of 81, Dr. Luc entrusted the daily operations ofNEWTON/AACH to Marge Roberts and a well-trained team of experts. Marge hasstudied homeopathy in both the US and Sri Lanka, and began studying with Dr. Lucin 1996. Homeopathy, a complete system of healing with its ownmethod of diagnosing and its own special remedies, wasdiscovered by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago.Homeopathics have no harmful side effects, may be safely usedby everyone, including pets, and can be administered for bothacute and chronic conditions.

Homeopathics are made from minute amounts of plant, animal and mineralsubstances prepared by the process of dynamization. Dynamization is a processwhereby a minute amount of substance is diluted, to as much as one part per tenbillion and beyond, and succussed (vigorously shaken). Scientists have theorizedthat homeopathy may function similar to the way enzymes or hormones function inthe body. Although they are found in similar miniscule amounts, they have verypowerful effects.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is the secondlargest medical system for primary health care in the world. It is prevalent andwidely accepted in many parts of the world including Europe, where over 100million people use it on a regular basis. In America, during the early 1900s, themost prestigious medical schools in this country were homeopathic. These medicalschools converted to allopathic medicine as fast-acting synthetic drugs weredeveloped. Few knew then of the dangerous side effects inherent in syntheticpharmaceutical drugs.

Today, because of mounting evidence regarding the dangers of drug toxicity andits effects on health, the safety and efficacy of homeopathy is resulting in its wideruse and acceptance. There are approximately 6,000 homeopathic practitioners inGermany and 5,000 in France. In Britain, homeopathic hospitals and outpatientclinics are part of the national health system and homeopathy is recognized as apostgraduate specialty by virtue of an act of Parliament. The American Associationof Homeopathic Pharmacists has estimated the sales of homeopathic drugs in theUnited States in 2003 between $300 million and $450 million, with a compoundaverage growth rate of approximately 8% per year.

People are also returning to homeopathy because they understand that in orderto achieve health, one must discover the root cause of disease and not just treat thesymptoms. Many Americans now understand that pharmaceutical drugs ofteninterfere with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Suppressing, or merelyremoving symptoms, is a temporary solution at best. Introduction to NEWTON PRO Complexes

The use of NEWTON PRO complexes is ideal for the healthcare professional whois unable to devote years of study to master the rules of classical homeopathy. Indaily practice, approaching a client condition through classical homeopathy mayrequire hours of time that may not be available in most practices.

In European homeopathy (often referred to as clinical homeopathy), this time isgreatly reduced. NEWTON PRO formulations are based on this clinical approachwhich allows you to assist your clients in a shorter period of time, with no decreasein efficacy. Certain formulations are listed as adjunctive complexes meaning thatthey should be utilized as an adjunct with other healing modalities.NEWTON PRO homeopathic complexes are natural, safe and easy to use.

NEWTON PRO formulations allow any healthcare professional, even those notwell-versed in homeopathy, to integrate homeopathics into their daily practice.

Begin with NEWTON PRO Drainer which is formulated for liver, kidney andcolon functions allowing the body to naturally restore balance and efficientlyeliminate toxins. Administering NEWTON PRO Complexes

Not all NEWTON PRO complexes are manufactured in liqiud and pellet form.Check the current order form or website information for current availability.

Clients administer drops orally directly in the mouth as homeopathics areabsorbed through mucous membranes; the number of drops need not be exact. Ifthe alcohol taste is objectionable or for ease of administration, the drops may bediluted in pure water. If an alcohol-free liquid remedy is preferred, have yourclients place the drops of homeopathy in a small amount of warm water and letstand for 10 minutes to allow the alcohol to evaporate. The remainingwater/remedy mixture may then be placed in the mouth. Metal spoons or drinkingcontainers may interfere with the effectiveness of the homeopathic remedy. Inextreme cases where administration by mouth is impossible, dosage may bedoubled, diluted with sufficient water and given via colonic irrigation.

Pellets are another alcohol-free alternative or may better suit your client’s needs.Clients dispense pellets into the bottle cap or a spoon and transfer directly into themouth to dissolve. Pellets should be taken without being touched. The outermostlayer of the pellet contains the active ingredients. Under age 2, pellets should becrushed or dissolved in pure water prior to administration. It is not necessary todissolve the entire pellet as the remedy will transfer to the water from the outerlayer and then remaining portion of pellet may be discarded.

Using Complexes in Acute Conditions

Acute conditions more typically appear in babies, children, adolescents andyoung adults in good health. These types of conditions are often due to a suddenaccumulation of toxins in the body. Acute conditions may appear in the form of thecommon cold, a simple flu attack occurring periodically, sudden indigestion,occasional diarrhea, or a sudden skin rash or eczema.

When the body’s vitality is strong, the reaction can be forceful. Alarmingsymptoms such as fever, pain or inflammation accompany these conditions. Fever isthe main symptom and is a sign of the body’s healthy response.

Three signs assist with recognition of an acute condition: (1) the person washealthy prior to the attack, (2) the onset of the condition is sudden and (3) theduration of symptoms is short and intense.NEWTON PRO complexes can be administered for acute situations, which may

become balanced in a short period of time. The appropriate complex (e.g.Inflammation~Fever, Cold~Cough, Influenza) is given at the onset of symptomsand repeated several times during the day. A common usage mistake is not repeatingthe dose consistently and frequently. Even though symptoms may become lessdefined, the doses should still be continued, although less frequently. Considercontinuing the complex for a dose or two after all symptoms have disappeared.

In the case of fever, the dose is repeated more often when the fever is rising, evenas often as every 10 to 20 minutes, and then decreased as the fever subsides. Otherevents such as pain/injury may also dictate frequent dosing.

Using Complexes in Chronic Conditions

A chronic condition is a situation that has existed for a significant period of time,from several months to many years. In the chronically ill person, several problemsmay occur simultaneously because several body systems are involved at the sametime. A major sign of a chronic condition, even in the absence of pain, is fatigue orlack of energy for no clear reason. This situation can continue for years before anyother symptoms appear.

We believe that chronic conditions are a manifestation of an accumulation oftoxins not adequately eliminated from the body. As in Chinese medicine, and witha modern understanding of biological functions, the liver is always implicated inchronic conditions. This is why NEWTON PRO Drainer should always be usedfirst, or in conjunction with any other complex.

Digestive problems often accompany chronic conditions. They may be so subtleas to be almost imperceptible, even to the person suffering with them. Keysymptoms to watch for are gas, burping and bloating, especially after over-indulging or when eating certain foods. One bowel movement a day, or less, is alsoa common sign of sluggish digestive and excretory functions, as is beingunderweight. Chronic digestive problems make a person more tired than wouldnormally be expected, but is often dismissed as being a symptom of everyday liferather than a symptom of a chronic condition. If a person has a very strongdigestive system, pain may be the only sign of a chronic condition, as withrheumatism, in which pain is the leading diagnostic symptom.

In persons with strong digestion, the most difficult chronic condition to identifyis arteriosclerosis, because there is no sign of impending trouble due to its painlessnature, especially at the onset. Here, the only symptoms may be excessive weight,some breathing difficulties or unexplainable tiredness. Arteriosclerosis is dangerousbecause thrombosis may occur (even in the early stages) and cause heart attacks orstrokes. Care should be taken to recommend an appropriate primary care providerin this case. Homeopathy, here, is used as an adjunctive therapy.

In chronic, as well as in acute conditions, accumulated toxins are the underlyingcause of the problem. With chronic conditions, the toxins role is significantlyincreased because much of the body, especially the connective tissue, ispermeated by these toxins. It is a more difficult and longer process for the bodyto remove toxins from these tissues, because the metabolism has becomecompromised and weaker than in persons suffering from acute conditions.

Overweight persons store high amounts of toxins in the adipose tissue. Leanpersons, on the contrary, store the toxins in the blood. These toxins adversely affectthe function of the glands, excretory organs and digestive organs. These toxins alsoaffect enzymes, which underlie all metabolic activities, especially those of digestion.When these enzymes fail to function properly, there is fermentation of food in theintestines which creates inappropriate and excess metabolic by-products. As aconsequence, aberrant metabolic activities begin.

An improperly functioning metabolism causes fatigue and introduces moretoxins into the system. Because of low enzymatic levels, the liver cannot detoxify theblood and remove metabolic wastes. The blood and tissues then become repositoriesfor even more toxin accumulation, especially excess uric acid which is producedfrom the metabolism of uric acid and purines. Thus, a chronic condition createsnegative feedback mechanisms that grow worse with time.


Excess uric acid accumulation ultimately results in two major conditions:rheumatism-arthritis and arteriosclerosis. The term “rheumatism-arthritis” as usedhere includes all conditions which cause pain and deformity in the muscles, jointsand tendons, such as rheumatism, bursitis, arthritis, disc herniation, decalcification,osteoporosis and polyarthritis. It ranges from simple stiffness or pain in the knee orshoulder, to complete immobility of the damaged joints caused by rheumatoidarthritis. Eventually, the degeneration and demineralization becomes so great thatthe immune system turns against its own body and destroys the affected tissue(osteoporosis and/or rheumatoid arthritis). Arteriosclerosis starts when excess uricacid attacks the inner wall of the arteries causing inflammation. The body then usescholesterol and calcium to patch and repair the damaged vessel walls; these repairsbecome the foci for a buildup of cholesterol that eventually hardens or blocks thearteries.

The homeopathic protocol is geared toward the restoration of balance, so thebody can heal and restore vital enzyme function. In addition, vitamins, mineralsand trace-minerals, which work in conjunction with the metabolism, should also beincorporated. We suggest that a person battling these chronic conditions follow adiet that is low in protein and without chemical additives to help reduce the intakeof toxins.

Consider this approach for rheumatism, arthritis and as an adjunct forarteriosclerosis. We have found that homeopathy is a popular choice forhypertension, weak circulation, arterial blockages, rheumatism and arthritis. Thehomeopathic protocol for chronic conditions calls for the reduction of pain throughthe restoration of normal function. NEWTON PRO complexes can be used alone oras an adjunct to other medical therapies. Homeopathy is safe and will not interferewith other medicines or supplements. Certain formulations are listed as adjunctivecomplex for meaning that they should be utilized as an adjunct to other healingmodalities. Using NEWTON PRO Complexes

In acute situations, the choice is simple because there is only one condition (e.g.a cold, flu or fever). NEWTON PRO Inflammation~Fever is not necessary if theflu or cold is accompanied by a low fever. NEWTON PRO Drainer and a specificcomplex (either Cold~Cough or Influenza in this example) are appropriate toaddress the symptomology.

The process is more complicated in chronic conditions. Symptoms usuallyinclude exhaustion, pain, nervousness and digestive problems. Often the personexperiences headaches and irritability and may suffer from hypotension, whichaccompanies the exhaustion; other symptoms may be present as well. Although itisn’t harmful, it is recommended that no more than two additional complexes beused with NEWTON PRO Drainer at the same time. This allows you to maintainan awareness of the healing process.

In establishing a homeopathic protocol, the order of importance of the differentailments must be established; address the most important first. When present,addressing the pain is almost always the highest priority for a suffering person. Aspain diminishes, some of the other symptoms may subside as well. Not only willyour client feel better, but the body will function better in the next stages ofrecovery.

For example, if a person is suffering from arthritic pain, low blood pressure anddigestive problems, the different symptoms and signs must be prioritized. Since theproblems are related, addressing the blood pressure can also address the digestiveissues. Likewise, attending to the digestive system can also deal with the low bloodpressure. Because the arthritic pain is the most discomforting symptom, this shouldbe addressed first by utilizing NEWTON PRO Arthritic~Joint Care daily over along period, probably for several months. NEWTON PRO Drainer is used everyevening as it is formulated for liver, kidney and colon functions so the body cannaturally restore balance and efficiently eliminate toxins. At the same time,NEWTON PRO Digestive Care is taken when the symptoms of indigestion occur,as well as before meals, for a period of two to three weeks or until the symptomssubside.

The protocol would be as follows:Ages 12 and up: prescribe 6 drops or pellets orally; Ages 0 to 11: prescribe 3 drops or pellets to be given orally;

After being on this protocol for a while, your client will probably experience achange in the pattern and symptoms of their condition. Due to this process, theunderlying cause should become clearer and its identification should become moreaccurate. Using NEWTON PRO & Single Remedies

After utilizing NEWTON PRO complexes for a period of time, the healthcareprofessional will become more familiar with homeopathic usage and it may beappropriate to dispense higher potency single remedies as an adjunct to thecomplex.

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann taught that a protocol begins with a lower potency andproceeds to a higher one when the remedy exhibits improvement of symptoms. Incommon conditions, where the symptoms are less complex, the 10x or 15x potencyis often sufficient. In chronic cases, it may be helpful to use higher potency singleremedies in conjunction with the use of NEWTON PRO complexes.

Higher potencies are believed to have greater stimulatory effects. When a feveraccompanies a condition, consider adding NEWTON PRO Inflammation~Fever. Ifthe fever stabilizes, but does not decrease, additional higher potency liver remediessuch as Nux vomica, Bryonia or Chelidonium majus in 15x or 30c potency may benecessary to achieve the proper stimulatory effect.

In chronic conditions, if a person’s recovery is progressing too slowly, a higherpotency dose of a single remedy may be helpful. Often, a higher potency of Bryoniaor Nux vomica can increase the stimulatory effects allowing the body to naturallyrestore balance and efficiently eliminate toxins. To use a higher potency forsymptoms of the condition, the Law of Similars determines the proper singleremedy choice. Utilizing an individual component of the NEWTON PROformulation your client is already taking is another excellent way to find the rightsingle remedy. Pellets should not be touched with fingers orhands. The warmth and moisture of the skin may absorb and remove some of theactive ingredients from the pellet. Pour pellets into the bottle cap and then pourdirectly into the mouth.

Can homeopathy be taken with food, drink, peppermint, etc?Historically, it has been recommended that one should refrain from consumingfoods that contain strong aromatics or stimulants such as coffee and peppermint.NEWTON has found that the “15-Minute Rule” is a sufficient window betweentaking homeopathy and consuming food or drink. Simply take the remedies 15minutes before or after eating, drinking or brushing teeth. Homeopathy may also bemixed with a small amount of clean, preferably filtered, water.

Is homeopathy affected by extreme temperatures?According to HPUS (Homoeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States), due todocumented heat sensitivity of homeopathic preparations, remedies should not beexposed to temperatures greater than 121ºC (249.8ºF). Refrigerating or freezinghomeopathic remedies is not recommended. The best method for storage is to keepcontainers tightly sealed and out of extreme heat or direct sunlight.

Do larger individuals need to take more than the standard NEWTONadult dose of 6 drops?No. Homeopathy is not dispensed according to weight or size in humans. ANEWTON standard adult dose is 6 drops or pellets. A standard child’s dose is 3drops or pellets. Other manufacturers’ standard dosages are often more than doublethe NEWTON dosage. Animal dosage is based on weight due to the fact that thereis so much variance in size between breeds and species.
