Day 1: Board Your Overnight Flight to Berlin!

Day 2: Berlin | Wittenberg

Arrive in Berlin and Transfer to WittenbergArrive in Wittenberg, where Martin Luther lived and preached. TheProtestant Reformation began here on October 31, 1517, when henailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church.

Day 3: Wittenberg

Guided Sightseeing of WittenbergTravel to Wittenberg, where a local guide will take you around thisbeautiful city. Although the city only has a population of 50,000, it hasplayed a major role in the history of Christianity. Learn about the tiesthat Wittenberg has with Martin Luther and the ProtestantReformation as you walk through the city.

Visit the SchlosskircheBuilt originally in the fifteenth century and rebuilt in the nineteenth, thischurch houses the graves of both Luther and Melanchthon. It washere that one of history's most defining moments occurred whenLuther nailed his “Ninety Five Theses” to the door in 1517. Today, thenineteenth century bronze doors bear the Latin text of Luther'stheses.

Visit the Luther HouseTrace the 95 Theses' journey back to the door they were writtenbehind on a visit to Luther's home. Located in the monastery wherehe studied and eventually lived out his adult life, the home doubles asa museum. Inside you'll get to see the world's most impressivecollection of German Reformation artifacts, including Luther's robe, apreserved lecture hall and dozens of first edition books.

Visit the Melanchthon HouseEnter the Renaissance mansion of Philipp Melanchthon, theReformation's greatest scholar and Luther's greatest collaborator.Timeless façades guard an interior that are the academic counterpartto Luther's monastic quarters-complete with one-of-a-kindmanuscripts and artifacts.

Visit the Luther GardenSince 2008, the Lutheran World Foundation in Geneva has beenplanting 500 trees from all over the world as a living tribute to theReformation's quincentennial anniversary. This massive public gardenis a remarkable culmination of theology, history and community that isexpected to grow well beyond Wittenberg city limits.

Day 4: Eisleben | Leipzig

Transfer to Leipzig via a Guided Sightseeing of EislebenHead to nearby Eisleben, Luther's birthplace. He was baptized here in1483 and died here in 1546. Explore the town with your local guide,taking time to visit the houses of both Luther's birth and death.Eisleben is also a relatively industrial city, as it has been one ofGermany's copper-mining centers since the 14th century.

Visit the Burg und Schloss AllstedtThis is a preserved castle and palace holds a history spanning fromthe 13th to 19th century.

Arrive in LeipzigContinue to Leipzig, a city with a rich musical and political history.Today Leipzig is a major German transportation and intellectual hub,boasting Europe's largest train station, and a vibrant studentatmosphere.

Day 5: Erfurt | Eisenach

Transfer to Eisenach via Buchenwald Concentration CampStop at the prisoner-built Buchenwald concentration camp. Duringthe summer of 1937, the SS forced the prisoners to carry hugestones from the quarry to the camp. In later years of the camp'soperation, a powerful underground organization was created in thecamp and numerous prisoners who were sentenced to death by theSS were hidden. This was made possible by overcrowding.

Arrive in EisenachTravel to Eisenach, a small town in the Thuringia province ofGermany. Eisenach's importance to Germany history lies mainly withthe Wartburg Castle and its connections with Martin Luther.

Visit the Lutherhaus (time permitting)Visit the Lutherhaus, Martin Luther's boyhood home where he stayedwith the Cotta family from 1498 to 1501.

Visit Schloss WartburgGet ready for a hike up to Wartburg Castle! This medieval fortress wasbuilt in 1067 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is mostfamous for housing Martin Luther after his excommunication, while hetranslated the New Testament into German.

Day 6: Worms | Marburg | Heidelberg

Transfer to Heidelberg via Marburg and Worms

See the Reformation Monument in WormsWelcome to Worms, arguably the oldest city in Germany and site ofthe historic Edict of Worms in 1521. Travel under medieval bridgesand through timeless villages to find the largest Luther Monument inthe world. Walkthrough a hall of Reformation heroes as you're greetedby the patina-green statues of everyone from Philip of Hesse to JohnWycliffe.

Arrive in HeidelbergArrive in Heidelberg, one of Germany's most beautiful towns, standingproudly on the River Neckar. While its castle dominates the skyline,the town also has wonderful shopping and a vibrant nightlife due to itslarge university population.

Day 7: Heidelberg

Reformation Tour of HeidelbergYour tour begins with a visit to the most famous church in Germany.Daylight pours through the windows of The Church of the Holy Spirit,and its tall Gothic steeple stands high above the village houses. Headfor Old Town (“Altstadt”) and into historic Heidelberg University-whichwas established by the Holy Roman Empire but became a home forleading Reformers after Luther's disputation in 1518.

Visit Heidelberg Castle and Wine BarrelSee Heidelberg's 700-year-old Schloß (palace) and its famous Faß(wine barrel), the world's largest. From the castle's rose-colored wallsand historic battlements, enjoy a stunning view of the Neckar Valley,where Homo heidelbergensis roamed 500,000 years ago.

Neckar Valley CruiseEnjoy a cruise along the Neckar River, where you'll see many OldWorld castles perched along the riverbank. The excursion includes avisit to 13th-century Dilsberg Fortress. Overlooking the Valley,Dilsberg was once the most powerful fortress in the region.

Day 8: Schleitheim | Zurich

Transfer to Zurich via SchleitheimEnjoy a visit to the Schleitheim Museum (pending confirmation),before continuing on to visit the Anabaptist Cave.

Visit Anabaptist CaveLocated on the outskirts of Schleitheim, is an Anabaptist cave withthe Anabaptists used to worship. Your Group Leader will lead yourgroup on a walking path into the cave to explore.

Arrive in ZurichDiscover the charms of beautiful Zurich. Stroll along the River Limmatand take time to discover the narrow streets and the restoredbuildings of the historic old town. Be sure to sample Switzerland'sworld-famous cheese and chocolates.

Day 9: Zurich

Guided Reformation Tour of ZurichDiscover the charms of beautiful Zurich. Stroll along the River Limmatand take time to discover the narrow streets and the restoredbuildings of the historic old town, while your guide speaks about thereformation in Zurich.

Free Afternoon in ZurichTake some time to explore this visually stunning city on your own. Youmay choose to visit a museum or two, do some shopping or justwalking around the city with your camera to capture Zurich's stunningbackdrop!

Day 10: Geneva

Transfer to GenevaSeat of the Protestant Reformation, it was here that Calvin preached,Voltaire philosophized, Victor Hugo wrote, and Rousseau came upwith ideas that helped ignite the French Revolution. The city is alsohome to the United Nations building as well as countless parks andislands of great natural beauty.

Walking Tour of GenevaGeneva is the center of international diplomacy, as well as a small,friendly town. Set on the banks of Lake Geneva (also known as LacLéman) between the Alps and the Jura mountains in the Southwestcorner of Switzerland, Geneva was the site of the founding of both theLeague of Nations and the Red Cross. Follow your TourDirector past the Palais des Nations and the European headquartersof the United Nations (Switzerland is not a member of the U.N. itself,nor does it belong to NATO). Later, stroll along the beautifullakefront-during the summer months behold the Jet d'Eau, theworld's tallest fountain.

Visit St. Peter's CathedralWith its mismatched towers, conflicting Romanesque andNeoclassical styles and single bright green spire, this cathedralappears to have multiple personalities. The interesting aestheticcontinues inside, where remnants of this once-Catholic church can beseen in stained glass windows-but lies hidden behind whitewashedwalls that the Calvinists have covered up. You'll also get to see JohnCalvin's chair resting near the entrance to the north tower spiralingstaircase.
