Transcript of Design portfolio
Throughout my art and design education I have learnt to use drawing as an important tool to help me to take inspiration from
the world around me, focusing in on textures, details and composition. I enjoy experimenting with range of techniques from
quick continuous line drawings to more focused line and colour drawings.
Within my degree I have completed workshops in collograph, lino-print, heat transfer, mono-print and screen-print, working
on both paper and fabrics. During my final project I worked with screen print developing my knowledge of different inks and techniques, as well as exploring the use of layers and repeat
patterns within a screen.
I also enjoy using freehand machine embroidery to create stitch with a drawn quality, and have used it to create figurative images, patterns and textural marks, both on its own and alongside print. I have found that the organic lines that can be created work well
with my drawing style.
I am able to create patterns both by hand and through use of Photoshop and Illustrator CS6. I have experience of creating set
layouts, tossed layouts, free-flowing layouts, stripes and repeats.
I also use sewing to create final products, both by machine and hand. For my final project I created various home-ware products
including quilts, cushions and bedding sets. During my degree I have taken workshops in embroidery, hand and machine sewing,
and patterns.
For my final project at university I put together a range of home-ware products for children based on the theme of maps and adventures, inspired by the natural world, nostalgia and children’s
stories such as Swallows & Amazons.
