All lab users must submit a Help Ticket ([email protected] ) with your course number and group number in the subject line only; when requesting services provided by machine shop technicians, i.e. lathe work, milling and other. Once a ticket number is assigned, use only that number for the duration of the specific project. For 496 Lab students, before the project can begin your supervisor must give the 4- digit speed chart code to cover cost of materials and e-mail your request to [email protected] and cc. your supervisor. Once a ticket number is assigned to you, use only that number for the duration of the specific project. All users of the shop must provide their own C.S.A. approved safety glasses and provided safety toecaps. Maximum number of students at any one time in the shop will be at the technician’s discretion, however the buddy system requires a minimum two people in the shop. The best extension to save your drawing is to use .dxf (data exchange format) or .dwg. If using Solidworks, please save as a 2010 or earlier drawing. The ECE Department has a license for OMAX Layout and the student version of SOLIDWORKS. Ask your supervisor to have these installed on your computer. The machines read millimeters and decimal inches best, when using metric system do not use centimetres in your drawings. Give one reference dimension per part. Separate individual parts for machining by saving in named sequential files, (i.e. Group 7 (part name), Group 7 (part name A), Group 7 (part name B) Please attach your drawings to the ticket that you have generated. Please state overall dimensions on your communication to the machine shop. In these drawings do not include dimensions on the drawing but give us an indication in a separate note, what size and thickness and type of material you require. Make sure you have all components in hand before submitting your design. There will be no reworking of parts by technicians due to design errors.
