1. Introduction

This evaluation report will be looking at my design process and how I came to my final idea and how the overall building relates to the design brief. I will talk about how my design complies with the brief and discuss anything I would do differently if I was tasked with a similar project in the future.

2. Report

Stage one was the planning stage with design considerations and outline sketches. I feel I did well in this stage to overcome issues and queries in regards to materials, size of project, and local vernacular.

The materials I have chosen are traditional of Scottish style by using stone and slate with timber frame construction internally. In the brief it states to use some contemporary aspects alongside a contemporary style. I feel I have accomplished this and that I have met the desired outcome.

The size of the size is small and exposed but with careful consideration to design and layouts I have managed to creat a generously sized house with holiday let potential and also with some garden space. The house is versatile with regards to living arrangements and quite spaces in the house.

I have designed a one and a half storey building with stone and slate, it’s taken Scottish vernacular and finely tuned it. Although being a big building it still maintains the Scottish influences, the building is not much higher that a normal one and a half storey house, and the use of Veluxes instead of dormers retains the roof line and keeps it less busy but still is eye catching and by no means boring.

Stage two was the development stage, where we had to come up with our concept designs and present them in another booklet. My first two concepts are the ones o chose to model my final building off, the layout of the second one worked really well with the positioning of the hosue

but the shape of the first house made the house for shielded from the harsh winds that are often present at Chanonry point. I have not differed at all much from my initial concepts so I feel that I have successfully managed to design around my site and all its aspects without having to differ much and make lots of changes.

Stage three of this project was the final developed stage, where we were to present all of our findings and final design with services and different views onto A1 boards. After making the 3D model and taking the views from it, it was just about finding the right layout in CAD and rendering images. Annotation was important in this stage to be able to follow the process and talk through our design. I am confident with my layout and quality and think for the time scale and lack of experience with the programme it is okay.

3. Conclusion

Overall I feel I could have done better if I knew more about the programmes like Revit and AutoCAD and Photoshop, I do feel that my design has suffered as a result of this. But for having little experience and knowledge as a whole I feel that my design and presentation is good and I don’t think would have changed much, if anything at all if I could.

I am happy with my design a think it is suitable for the site and the design brief, the room sizes are generous so more than meet the minimal requirements but still retaining within the site. If I was to do it again I think I would put in a wood burning stove and back boiler system because as the house is so insulated then heating requirements are so minimal.
