DESIGNBRIEF-SCREENPRINTEDT-SHIRT
BACKGROUNDT-shirts,originatingaround100yearsago,weredevelopedbytheU.S.Navywithcrewnecks(high,roundnecklines)andshortsleevesandmeanttobewornundertheuniformasanundergarment.Inthe1940s,thet-shirtwasadoptedasanunofficialuniformforworkers,includingmechanics,miners,farmersandfactoryworkers.T-shirtsarenowoneofthemostpopularofalltypesofclothing,amongstallagegroups.T-shirtsaremadeinallshapes,coloursandsizesandareabletoreflectindividualityindesign.Plaint-shirtscanbeablankcanvasforwearerstoexpresstheirownindividualitybydesigningandproducingtheirownuniquestyle.
YOURDESIGNBRIEFTheproductioncompany(yourclass)willcreatearangeofplainwhitet-shirts,tobedyed,tie-dyedand/orscreen-printedwithuniquedesigns.Youmaychoosetoprintonthefront,back,sleevesorallthree(timepermitting).Asadesigner,yourprojectneedsto:
• betherightsizeforyoutowear;• bemadefromplainwhitejersey(stretchknitfabric);• bedesignedappropriatelyfordisplayintheschool;and• appealtoyourownuniquestyle.
YouwillusetheMYPDesigncycletoaidintheplanning,productionandevaluationofyourwork.

TheDesignCycleNotethatthearrowsmovebackandforthbetweenthesections;whenyouarecompletingthisproject,youwillmovefluidlybetweenthesections.Forexample,when‘creatingthesolution’(makingyourt-shirt),youmaymodifyyouroriginaldesign.Thismaybebecauseyouhavechangedyourmindorsomethingisn’tworkingasyouwouldlikeitto.Asyouprogress,youshouldbeabletoexplainandunderstandwhereyouareinthedesigncycle.
