Contents InterpretationThe aim of this project is that all of us our put into groups of 4 or 5 and have to consider each others thoughts and decide on subject that would profit from each group members work. The subject can be anything such as rebranding, advertising, packaging and so on.
In our groups we have to each individually decide on a final idea and bounce it off the group and then pick the best one and then come up with a brief together on what we are doing and what is required for the deadline and then we all go our separate ways and the work on the brief individually.

We brainstormed subjects that we thought could benefit form our help. We then made our own indiviual lists and then narrowed them down to a few each then picked one out of the few to put across to the group.

Project BriefThe Challenge
What was once the humble coffee shop has turned into something that can become an international corporation, as Starbucks, Caffé Nero and Costa have so successfully demonstrated. Its evident there is money to be made in the market as everyone needs to have a seat, a snack and a drink at some point in their busy day. However sometimes it’s nice to go somewhere you know is unique and that you won’t find in every other street corner across the world. Although the big names make an effort to make all their costumers feel important sometimes you can’t help but feel you’re just another money sign to them, in their quest for world domination. With this in mind you are required to create something that will make a difference in the current coffee shop climate.
The Brief
Your job is to design a new brand of coffee shop based in Belfast. It should stand out from the already established shops in the area and target the art student market. The shop doesn’t need to conform to what the standard coffee shop supplies; it can supply a wider range of items or you can make the focus on something other than coffee, it’s up to you.
Requirements
You are required to come up with the name for the shop and design its image/identity.
Deliverables
This part is somewhat open. You can design a campaign that will advertise and promote the new shop. Or you can show designs for the range of things the store will use such as the coffee cups, the menus the store frontage, etc. Choose whichever one you feel will best demonstrate and communicate the brand that you’ve came up with.

After the briefAfter we finished writing the brief we now went off to work individually on the project.
I had to now go and research other coffee houses and other unique places in Belfast such as ‘Made in Belfast’ and ‘Home pop-up’. My coffee house will be suitable for art stu-dents providing modern desk-like tables to sit at with plugs nearby for Macs and enough room to get work done while having coffee, tea or whatever they prefer. It will also have students work on display around the coffee house for costumers to buy. There will be a blackboard wall for people to draw on, leave notes and so on.

For the name i needed something to do with coffee and art so i decided to look up words to do with:

I then came up with four final names:Sticky hot stuffHot stuff PicassoColourful brewCrafty Beans
I decided to go with ‘Crafty Beans’ as it is different and i liked the playfulness of the words together, it sounds very welcoming and friendly also.
I then had to pick a font that suited my name ‘Crafty Beans’ . I want something sophisticated yet fun and playful. I chose a font called ‘Riesling’ and then for other parts of writing i used ‘Kozuka Gothic Pr6N’.

This is where I first designed my logo, i quickly painted a teacup on top of a flower stem to give the coffee shop an artistic feel but when i put it beside the name it looked to sketchy and the font is more neat and sophisticated.
This was the idea i had with the flower i painted with the colours changed slightly but at that time i knew i could do better so i kept trying out other things.

I wanted to make the flower more neat and tidy so I went into illustrator and drew the flower out and changed the colours. I also used a brush and ran it across behind the type to give the ‘crafty’ look.
This is my final logo. I got my inspiration from some of ‘Si Scott’s work with the swirls. I made the swirls with the letters ‘s’ and joining them together.

EvaluationI feel that this coffee house that i have designed had made a difference to Belfast as it is unique and is especially made for art students and makes them keen to show off and sell their work and makes them spend time doing their work with other art students while enjoying their coffee and they can draw or leave notes on the chalk board for other students to see. It helps them to introduce other styles of work to their own as they will be opening their eyes to new work. It makes a difference to the art students work while working ith other students and will make them keen to come back to meet up again and enjoy this coffee house.
