WOW! The time really is flying bye. I guess it lends truth to the old adage that time flies when you’re having fun.

By the time most of you read this, you’re Divan and Unit and Club officers have been installed and your Divan has attended Passing of the Gavel events at the Legion of Honor, Clowns, Yacht Club, our three Shrine clubs in Baja Norte; Mexicali, Ensenada and Tijuana, as well as the Peace Officers.

The attendance of our Nobles and Ladies for the Installation was fantastic. We fed one hundred and ninety guests. Hopefully we can keep that spirit alive.

I hope everyone enjoyed our “Open House” on the night before the Nobility Ball. This was a concept that was started by our late Past Potentate Rhodes Beacham, and was coordinated by our Outer Guard Tony Jesmond, the concept has been copied by some of the other Shrines in the western states. The purpose is twofold, it is an opportunity to socialize with our own members and visitors from other Shrine Centers, but more importantly to show prospective candidates who we are and recruiting our own to be members to join our Units and Clubs.

The Nobility Ball was a rousing success I hope all that attended had a great time. I want to give a special “Thanks” to my Aides that helped dispense the refreshments, my Purveyors John Ford and Lady Nancy for the great snacks, the Soujorners for the Presentation of the Colors, the Legion of Honor and Patrol for the HonorGuard, Miss Sheila Piansay for her beautiful rendition of God Bless America, and of course our Director’s Staff for all they do in setting everything up. A special Thank You to our Ball Chairman, Past Potentate Arnold Korey, for making it a great success.

The second weekend in February we make our annual trek to Yuma for our fun Silver Spur weekend with the Nobles and Ladies of El Zaribah Shrine from Phoenix. There will be lots of hospitality, a great parade and the Ladies tell me great shopping.

Please support our Past Masters Breakfast on Sunday, February 21st, it is always a great and fun event, and everyone needs a good breakfast once in awhile

I hope you like this year’s pin. I wanted to convey an image of fun and also express our purpose. The Camel is a copy of one of my favorites of the 300+ that were destroyed in the fire at Shrine Camp, the message is from the heart and it’s what we are all about. “It’s about the kids”.

Chaplain’s MessageNobles, Are we just going through the motions, regarding life or are we actually living it. Don’t take life for granted, because, it could end in a minute, an hour, a day or sometime in the near future. Live life to the fullest. Make time for what is important to you in your life and don’t have any regrets about how your life has gone. The future is not set. There is no fate, but what we make for ourselves. So, make it a good one. Do your best and forget the rest. Have faith in yourself and that everything will work out. We can only do what we can do.

Look forward to what is to come, while living in the moment. We all get distracted, but we must live life in the present. Live life, don’t let it, live you. Sincerely, Abraham Ravitch, Chaplain

High Priest & Prophet Report - Gene Yee

Legion of HonorOne down and ten to go, December is usually dark but busy. The LOH Color Guard was busy during December 2015 and January 2016 presenting colors at various installations. This is not a function just for officers any member of the LOH is invited to participate in presenting colors. There will be vans going to Yuma early in the morning on February 13th for the Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo. March 12th is the St Patrick’s Parade. I know some of us (me included) are getting older and are unable to walk like we used to. I’m sure we can find a place for you to ride if you don’t feel like walking. I’d really enjoy seeing more of us at the parades.I’ll keep everyone informed by e-mail concerning future events, transportation, and any other type of information that comes across my desk. Sincerely and Fraternally,Cmdr. Tony AlbrightCell: (619) 994-5309e-mail: [email protected]

Rancho Bernardo Shrine ClubNobles and Ladies,The first meeting of the Rancho Bernardo Shrine Club was well attended and it was good to get back in the swing of things for 2016. We also congratulate Don Heath for assuming the office of President for 2016.Our next Club meeting and dinner will be on Thursday, February 18th at the Athens Café & Market in Carmel MountainIf you are not a member and wish to join us for fellowship and a good meal, please contact me at 619/884.5440. I would be happy to provide you with all of the informationPhil Johnson, Secretary

Motorcycle Riding ClubNobles of the Al Bahr Motorcycle Riding ClubFirst I would like to thank all the members of the club for electing me President of the Club. I will do my best to live up to your expectations. Secondly, I would like to thank Abe Ravitch, our outgoing President, for a fantastic year that included many rides and wonderful cama-raderie. Thirdly, you all elected a great core of officers, Dale Martin Treasurer, Neal Olinger as V.P. and Abe Ravitch as the Secretary. We all look forward to Growing the Club and will do our best to de-velop attractive and fun outings that will encourage more Shriners to dust off their Bikes and join in the fun. During 2016, we are also making an effort to support Shrine by combining rides and Shrine functions as well as brief business meetings. Your officers are even considering some overnight rides. Yuma Silver Spur would be a good example of our effort. February 12th thru the 14th 2016, Al Bahr is traveling to Yuma for a Parade and three day Party. Brothers from the El Zaribah Phoenix Motorcycle Club are coming also. Last year we had a great ride together and toured some very interesting places (Martinez Lake and the Proving grounds). Your suggestions and desires are always foremost in our minds. We will continue to communicate by E-Mail as Abe did so well in 2015. Please call any of us if you have any thoughts about super rides. And don’t forget, ask a friend to become a member.George Geanoulis 2016 President of Al Bahr Motorcycle Riding Club.

Amazon SmilesNobles & Ladies,I am not sure of how many of you use Amazon for your on line pur-chases but if you do, you should be aware of a program offered by Amazon which will help support the Shriners Hospitals for Children. When you log on to Amazon, if you do it through Smile.Amazon.com your eligible purchases will authorize Amazon to donate .5% of the purchase to be donated to our Shrine Hospitals. There is no addi-tional fee to you, this is a donation from Amazon, and you can still use you established account and select from all the items available on Amazon. It is a simple procedure: log on to Smile.Amazon.com, select the Shriners Hospitals for Children from the listed available charities and do you regular shopping.Again, this does not affect your purchase price; it is a donation by Amazon. Make use of this offer to assist our Shrine Hospitals and go crazy online!Phil JohnsonImperial Donor Committee

Hello, Nobles, and welcome to February. January included clubs/units’ passing of gavels, blue lodge installations, and the nobil-ity ball; we move ahead sharply! March brings the St. Patrick’s Day Parade followed by the Corned Beef/Cabbage luncheon at the Shriners Center! I hope to see you all at the lunch. So if you don’t march on March 12, come in to Al Bahr a few minutes early and watch me work (and enjoy some camel’s milk!). I will spend mul-tiple Saturdays representing you all at Shriners’ installations/balls at our neighboring temples. Like a good neighbor, Al Bahr is there!I have received a number of calls and comments about patient Zion information. You requested more information and positive requests, so here is the link: http://www.chop.edu/stories/zion-s-story-gift-hands#.It works best if you open it with Internet Explorer. Please read the story before you click on the video and you will see the Shriners Hospitals actions in context. During one of the blue lodge installations, I had the privilege to talk with our Grand Master of Masons in California, the Most Worshipful Sir M. David Perry before the event. He remarked to me that 30% of our Masonic membership in California today have been Masons for less than five years! This healthy change of demographics brightens our future as a fraternity being brought to light of and with our new brothers! Al Bahr now will also take advantage of this for the brightness of our Shrine’s future.

Greeters

Director’s StaffAll the officers were installed the last Stated meeting a good time was had by all especially Noble Ed member of the Directors Staff who won both sides of the Passport contest. We tried to convince him to go out and buy a Lottery ticket but he wasn’t going along with it. I hope everyone had a good time at the Nobility Weekend. The Directors Staff would like to thank Peter Krickhuhn for his time and good cheer while driving our Oversized Genie over to the Silver Spurs Parade. Without Peters help driving our Genie to and in the parades Al Bahr would have one less float. We did make it a little easier on him by obtaining a different van with a little more creature comfort. We’re going to make a couple changes to the Genie to make it easier to raise and lower it to save our old backs from any more damage. Our Thursday Burger cook out is back in swing after a brief break for the Holidays It’s good to see Bob Stuckey and Steve Bumgarner at it again. So, come by and enjoy a burger and some comradery.Bruce SmithDirectors Staff President

Dear Greeters,The Greeter Officers hope that you all had a Very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Please stay healthy so you can attend our Greeter meeting in 2016.If our Unit is to be a viable one, we need YOUR participation!!! Please attend your Greeter Shed meetings throughout the year. Remeber, they are on the second Wednesday of each month unless you get an email from me stating otherwise. ( usually due to a conflicting SR event, like this month). Again this year we will be asking you to contact me to RSVP your attendance at our meetings, so the quartermaster can schedule enough food for everyone. You may RSVP me back at this email address, [email protected] or by calling me at my cell 619-888-mike (6453).It doesn’t appear that our regular scheduled Greeter Shed meeting made it into the new Shrine Calendar, so please mark YOUR calendars as a reminder of our meeting dates. Second Wednesday of each month. The officers would like to ask you that if you have a suggestion on how to increase participation, please let us know.Mike RandallSec/Treasurer

Past MastersAs I write this article, our Past Masters Club is looking forward to the Al Bahr Shrine’s Open house in late January. It will be a great time to strut our stuff and chat with members and their ladies of the other Shrine clubs and units. If you are a Past Master, or sitting Master, and are not yet a member, please consider joining our club. We are essentially a Blue Lodge’s “911” responder if the lodge finds itself short of officers to confer Masonic Degrees. We also offer a chance for members to meet and mingle with other lodge Past Masters and pick up some pointers from their experience.Since this is February, why not take your best gal out for a dinner to celebrate your love? Doesn’t have to be a Valentine’s Day dinner at a fancy restaurant. Any day will do and a small, cozy restaurant or even a Denny’s or I-Hop will bring a smile to her face. Show her that you appreciate her being with you as your life partner. Whether you share a success, need a sympathetic ear when failing miser-ably, or just making you some soup when you have the flu, it is the sharing of the experience with someone you love that is what life is all about. In closing, please see our ad elsewhere in this edition for our An-nual Past Masters Club Breakfast, for Sunday, February 21st at the Shrine Center. Please mark your calendars to join us.Fraternally,Mike Seiler, President

Shaaru Court of LOSNAOur Grand High Priestess visited our Court on Feb. 16 and 17, we had a dinner in her honor and she attended our Stated Meeting for the month. She is a lovely lady and totally dedicated to our order. During her year as Grand High Priestess she is traveling to visit all of the Ladies Oriental Shrine Courts and all of the Shriners’ Hos-pitals, a very busy time for her. She told us of the progress of her Special Project, the Outdoor Rehabilitation Terrace for the Shriners’ new Children’s Medical Center in Pasadena. More details on that in my article next month.Don’ forget our monthly Ladies’ Therapy Session for February, it will be Tuesday the 23rd at Al Bahr Center at 1130. All ladies welcome, whether members or not, bring a sandwich and a snack to share if you wish. Meet our members and learn about what we do to support the Shriners and their philanthropyJudy Belknap PHPReporter

Al Bahr Honor WallNobles & Ladies,If you want to honor or memorialize a loved one, a distinguished family member or an outstanding member of your Unit or Club, the shrine has an easy way for you to this.As you enter our Shrine Center you have probably noticed the plaques and bricks which have been placed on the Honor Wall to commemorate our special members and family. We are starting another section of the wall and we encourage your participation, a variety of logos are available. If you are interested in helping Al Bahr Shrine, please contact the Shrine office at 858/292-0092 to discuss the options available to you.

Dues cards are a hot topic right now. I have yet to receive mine just as a lot of you have not received yours. First, Shriners International is sending these dues cards out. We have no control or insight into if/when/why/where/how long, etc etc for your dues cards. All they are saying to us is that they are processing them. This has put us at each Shrine behind the eight ball with dues cards always being required for entrance to meetings, etc. We can tell if you have paid your dues so even without your card, you can gain entrance into meetings. For example at the last stated meeting/dinner, we stamped tickets that were from Shriners with dues paid up and they used these as proof of dues to enter the meeting. No matter what the situation, we in the Recorders office, will continue to work to help you and the Shrine. As for your dues cards, we have been advised to not tell you to call Tampa. From there it’s your call ! If you have any questions or need any assistance with events, please don’t hesitate to call the office. We are here to do a lot of things and support our Shriners is number 1 on that list. You can email us at [email protected] , call us at 858-292-0092, and even send us a fax at 858-292-5618. If you would like to send a private note to the recorder you can do that at [email protected]. We are also on Facebook as Al Bahr Shriners and new on Twitter as @AlBahrRecorder. I hope to send news etc out via Twitter which will also update the same information to our Facebook page. This is all supplemental to our usual lines of communications. Serving at the pleasure of the Nobility, John P Harris Jr Recorder, Al Bahr Shrine
