About Our Cover

Nestled in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, its authentic European ambiance will transport you to a café in Brussels.

Pomme Frite has attracted a serious following of food aficionados since it opened thanks to its simplicity and by consistently serving superior cui-sine with pride but without European pomp. This quaint and cozy bistro features Belgian specialties, moderately priced, including mouth-watering steamed black mussels and Flemish style beef stew (simmered in Belgian beer). A wide selection of Belgian beers, French and California wines is also available to whet your palette.

The aromas emanating from the kitchen are en-chanting and mellow even the most severe food critics. And for mussel lovers - this is the place. Mussels prepared nine different ways, accompa-nied by fresh cut and crispy Pommes Frites and homemade dipping sauces.Topped off with a Belgian chocolate mousse on a bed of vanilla crème Anglaise for dessert, it simply doesn’t get any better than this.

Your host and owner, Jean-Claude Constant, surveys the tables and takes great pride in the caring and attentive service. The charming old-world patio is perfect for street and people watching on Palm Canyon Drive, and the dreamy French music insures a relaxing and romantic dining experience.

Are you in the mood for a touch of Europe? Don’t look any further.

Pomme Frite is your answer.

Pomme Frite - superior cuisine, small café simplicity, and attention to detail.

As mayor of Desert Hot Springs, it’s my pleasure and privi-lege to invite you and welcome you to the new Desert Hot Springs. With a revitalized downtown driven by small busi-ness, visitors and tourists are rolled out the red carpet.

We undoubtedly have the best views in the Coachella Val-ley, award winning and therapeutic mineral waters, the cleanest air and some of the best known health and well-ness spas in the country. Our guests can relax in our spas for a day, a week or the entire winter! While visiting our city a “must see” is our own California Historical Site – Cabot’s Museum. Cabot’s Museum will soon have trails leading into the Joshua Tree National Monument.

Whether it’s the majestic mountain views, the hiking, the wellness and health beneÿ ts of our spas, or our small town history that brought you here, we look forward tokeeping you here!

Sherman’s Deli and Bakery is a true culinary landmark in Palm Springs and Palm Desert. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this Kosher-style family restaurant has been the “meeting place” for locals, vacationers and celebrities for over a half a century. Sherman Harris came to the desert in 1953 to visit a friend

East Coast Deli with West Coast Style

at Lawry’s Steak Ranch. He fell in love with the area, stayed on to manage the ranch and realized his true calling when he opened Sherman’s Deli and Bakery. A true family restaurant, it is now run by his son Sam and daughter Janet. Sherman may not be with us anymore, but his presence is felt every day in every way. Sam and Janet remember bussing tables and waiting on tables and listening to their father’s frequent reminders to “treat every one who came through the doors as though they were a guest in your home”. He loved his customers and his community and they loved him back. Sherman’s loyalty and dedication to customer service is as evident today as it was then, carried out by Sam and Janet in the same caring manner as always.

STEPHEN BAUMBACHLANDSCAPE AND PORTRAITURE PHOTOGRAPHERFor over 40 years, Stephen Baumbach has pursued the thing that has captivated him since High School…the art of photogra-phy. He has taught in classrooms, work-shops and been exhibited in numerous shows nationwide. His images range in scope from rodeos to national and inter-national architectural icons. Now settled in Palm Springs, CA since October 2014, his eye is on the surrounding desert…the o˜ -the-grid and outlier areas…that yield an extraordinary beauty he captures with his artists’ eye and his trusty Canon. All his photographs are produced digitally and he personally ÿ nishes each print himself. His love of the desert has him exploring the surrounding areas including the Anza Borrego, Algodones Dunes and Slab City

among others. He plans his sojourns through the use of satellite and weather maps, looking for the areas that will yield the treasures and hues he is aiming for…the browns, reds, blues, pinks and yellows, which reveal themselves at di˜ erent times of day or night. He refers to some of the images he shoots as the “Eighth Wonders of the World” and there are many who would agree with him. Stephen’s work is broken up into series, which current-ly include the Anza Borrego desert and Kemuri, which is a study in smoke. His works may be views at www.stephen-baumbach photography.com. 1750 E. Arenas Road - Suite 25 Palm Springs, CA 92262. 617.510.7459
