After 1806, Hessen was divided and Lohrhaupten was in Hessen-Kassel. After 1868, when Hessen-Nassau was formed, Lohrhaupten was included.

I. Michael 1 Glück ,1 born about 1646, married Magdalena Seitz 17 Jul 1676 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen; at least one child. She was born about 1655. We haven't found anything about the Seitz family or the earlier Glück family. He died 13 Jan 1690, age about 43. She died about 1705, age about 50.

Lohrhaupten is about 50 km due east of Frankfurt, not far north of the border of present-day Bavaria. Earlier we thought it was inside Bavaria, but it’s in present-day Hessen. The border in the area is convoluted. It's a resort area for locals, perhaps somewhat comparable to living in Philadelphia and going to the Poconos for the weekend. The village and surrounding area seem to us a bit like Wardensville WV.

In 1991, three of our family (Karl, Fritz, and Hilde Edler) went to Lohrhaupten as part of a trip to visit friends in Germany and Netherlands. They came home with stories of the beautiful countryside. In 2000, after a trip to Braunsweig, Netherlands, and Poland, two of us went there (second time for Karl and first forBarbara). We noticed that folks certainly take pride, using brooms and dustpans to tidy the sidewalks and gutters. Lots of Glücks in the churchyards, although no evidence of where Barbara's ancestors would've lived. We've wondered why they left; perhaps there was a charismatic leader and a group left together.

Lohrhaupten itself is quite small and appears unchanging. There are barns right in town, and in 1991 there was a manure pile by the sign at the crossroads, about 20 yards from the churchyard. In 2000 there was a house where the pile had been. There is, and has been, timbering in the surrounding forests but, even in 2000, it wasn't as built up as many similar places. It's popular partly because of its unspoiled countryside and its nearness to industrial areas on the River Main.

A. Lorenz 2 Glück 1, born 1683, married Magdalena Krug 19 Feb 1707; at least seven children. She was born 1686. He died 13 Dec 1745, age about 63. She died 1752, age about 66.

Magdalena's parents were Michael Krug and Clara Weygands . He was born about 1653. She was born 1686. She died 1752, age about 66. We haven't found anything else about the Krug or Weygand families.

JOHANNES GLÜCK (b 1715) and ANNA MAGDALENA HERR (b 1724) and their descendantsfrom page 5-1

Johannes' parents were Lorenz Glück and Magdalena KrugAnna Magdalena's parents were Peter Herr and Anna Freund

4. Johannes 3 Glück 1 was born 29 Oct 1715 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen, and christened 8 Nov 1715. He married Anna Magdalena Herr 28 Apr 1744;1 at least nine children. She was born 23 Apr 1724. Her parents were Peter Herr and Anna Freund .

In 1754 Johannes and Anna Magdalena and their older children emigrated to America and settled BerksCo PA. The family name was later changed from Glück to Glick.

He died 23 Mar 1783 Albany Township, Berks Co PA, age 67. She died about 1790, age about 66. They were buried Wessnerville Cemetery, Berks Co PA.

-- See page 5-6 for some information about the HERR family --

Karl, Barbara and Fritz Edler visited the graves of Johannes and Anna Magdalena. The stones are nearly unreadable but we had a photograph in a book plus other references, and we felt sure we were correct. It was a rather tremendous feeling, these ancestors who came to this country so long ago.

Our line is through Johann Peter, the youngest child, born in Pennsylvania. We were pleased a few years ago to find a sixth cousin, Donald Kenneth Wilson, who lived not so far away in northern VA, and was born the same year as Barbara. He is descended from Albrecht Daniel, one of the older children who were born in Germany.

a. Maria Elisabeth4 Glück was christened 4 Feb 1746 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen.

b. Johann Georg4 Glück was christened 8 Jun 1747 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen.

Johann Georg must have died as an infant. We know multiple sons were often given the same first name, but we do wonder when we see the same second name.

c. Johann Georg4 Glück, born 24 Dec 1749 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen, married Mary Elizabeth Herr and married Margaret Herr -- see page 5-3.

d. Johann Philip4 Glück, born about 1750 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen, married Susannah Bieber -- see page 5-7.

e. Albrecht Daniel4 Glück, born 1752 Lohrhaupten Parish, Hanau, Hessen, married Christina Bieber -- see page 5-11.

f. David4 Glück died young in Pennsylvania.

We don't know David's birthdate, and his birthplace is given variously as Lohrhaupten and Pennsylvania. We think he was probably born in Lohrhaupten before the family emigrated in 1754 but did not live very long after they arrived in America.

g. Heinrich4 “Henry” Glück was born 15 Dec 1755 Albany Twp, Berks Co PA. He married Eva Catherine Strauser; no children known to us. He died 19 Dec 1804, age 49.

h. Georg Friedrich4 Glück was born about 1760 in PA.

i. Johann Peter 4 Glück , born 2 Jan 1768 Allemangel, Berks Co PA, married Anna Mariah Barbara Schumacher -- see page 5-13.

Note: Much of our Glück family information was taken originally from the files of Donald Kenneth Wilson. For this revision of “All-People” we have added material from various sources on the Internet. We are displaying most of it it in a compressed manner to save space, because we have verified very little of it. We hope this will be helpful to a future researcher.

She was born 12 Sep 1767. Her parents were Daniel Schumacher and Maria Elisabeth Steigerwald . ANNA MARIAH'S FAMILY -- Her father, Daniel Schumacher, was son of Johan Georg Schumacher and Maria Elisabeth [Schumacher]. Anna Maria's mother, Maria Elisabeth Steigerwald, was daughter of Georg Steigerwald and Anna Margaretha [Steigerwald]. We haven't found anything else about theSteigerwald family or the earlier Schumacher family.

Peter is said to have been killed in a barn raising accident. This seems so sad, his death would have been shortly after the family's arrival in Ohio. Anna Mariah was only 39 when she was widowed, with the youngest child only 2½ years old. We hope she was able to marry again. If she did, her second husband could be buried elsewhere, possibly with an earlier wife.

a) Mary5 Glick, born 11 Apr 1788, married John Ritter. She died 9 Sep 1877, age 89.

One researcher9 suggests that Henry may have married a second time, to Anna Margaretha Dildine, born 8 Jun 1793, and also suggests names of several more children. There appears to be some confusion about names and dates, and we have chosen not to assign a second marriage for Henry.

vi) Henry6 Glick, born 22 Aug 1828, married Ann Catherine Shull 29 Nov 1849 Logan Co OH; ten children.9 She was born about 1832 (age 28 in 1860 census of Bloomfield Twp, Bloom Center OH).

They moved to Missouri in 1860 or early 1861. In 1870 they were living Wakonda Twp, Carroll Co MO, next to BFE's great-grandparents John Wesley Cole and Annie Rebecca Badger , Section 6b.

BFE's grandmother ECF (Edith Cole Fisher) said Henry had a large farm in Braymer MO, not far from Dawn MO, and most of his children settled in the same area. ECF visited her cousins on the farm, and said she was sometimes the only non-Glick person there.

10.There has been some disparity among researchers regarding Eliza and Phoebe Glick, daughters of Henry Glick and Sarah Peters, page 5-10. Some say there was only one person, Eliza Phoebe (or Phoebe Eliza), born 2 Nov 1823. Because there are separate birthdates for Eliza and Phoebe, we think it likely there were two daughters, the older of whom may have died early.
