“You begin saving the world by saving one man at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.” ― Charles Bukowski Candidate Engagement: Being Different by Being Professional 1) Before you start your business day take 5 minutes and remember what it was like to be looking for a job. Gives you empathy. 2) DON’T SPAM. EVER. Waste of time in niche industries like tech. Make the emails a form email that you add a little flair to. 3) Never use the word I in the initial conversation with a candidate. Make it about them at first. Then discuss why you are chatting and what your needs are if there is a fit. 4) Discuss money at the END of the conversation. 5) Be upbeat with your conversations and always be positive. 6) Write interesting and informative job descriptions tailored to what they will be doing not to just what you want. 7) When you send the first email have a hyper link to the job you are wanting to discuss in the email. Make it easy for them and you. 8) KNOW WHAT YOU ARE RECRUITING FOR!! Take the time to sit with your leads AND managers to get the knowledge you need to find good talent. What questions to ask and what are the answers. This will help you filter out candidates and send the good ones. 9) Communicate with your candidates all the way through the process even when you have to say they did not get the positon but if they are good keep them in a Silver Medalist folder. 10) Know your client and your industry. Know what is happening in the market by asking both parties. 11) READ BLOGS and articles. A few of my favorites are: RecruitingDaily.com family of blogs ( I am of course biased to this one), BooleanBlackbelt.com, ERE.net, Bullseyerecruitng.net. etc. to name a few. 12) Lastly, and if you take nothing else away from meeting me PICK UP THE PHONE!!!!!
