9 of the 10 Chesterfield general practices have had Dementia Friends Information sessions for their staff and clinicians. These have been very well received and there is continuing interest from some Practices to undertake more work on becoming ‘dementia friendly’. The Avenue/Hasland partnership practice have committed fully to working through the Dementia Friendly Practice workbook and demonstrating that this work is both feasible and meritorious. It is hoped the work will encourage other Practices to undertake the work. The work load burden on the Practice is much reduced by its partnership working with its PPG [patient participation group] which is undertaking several areas of the work. The Practice is exploring how to maximise publicity for Dementia Friends Information sessions which it is offering to all patients and families. The first of these is to be held in September and the innovative advertising includes; an invite on all prescriptions leaving the surgery, a Facebook page, a display on the PPG notice board in the waiting room and on the tv screen, flyers for the meeting to be distributed at reception/with doctors, practice and district nurses, matron, local pharmacy, PPG members, update the Practice web site with information and an invite, the Alzheimers site and CDAA sites. The emphasis is to encourage the practice population to embrace Dementia Friends and the PPG is leading so the work is ‘bottom up’ and not ‘top down’ from the Practice.
