nunter Principal – Mrs Toni Skinner WEEK 10 27 September 2019 Deputy Principal’s Report It is with feelings of both satisfaction and achievement that Term 3 comes to a close and anticipation and excitement for Term 4 begins. Highlights of Term 3 included Education Week with the choir and dance groups performing at Kariong Mountains High School, School Art Show, Book Fair, Book Character Parade, Public Speaking Competitions and Sporting Teams’ events. Future highlights in Term 4 include Razzle Dazzle, Kindergarten 2020 Transition, 2020 Leadership events and Presentation Days. Peer Support This term Year 6 have had the opportunity to develop their leadership skills during their peer support sessions. On Monday afternoons, students have participated in lessons to support their wellbeing and to develop social skills. These experiences are innovative opportunities provided as part of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education curriculum. We thank our leaders for their facilitation of the activities and the Year 6 teachers for their coaching, mentoring and organisation of this successful program. Canteen Facelift Today our canteen surroundings received a wonderful facelift with some amazing signage promoting healthy eating. This was made possible with a grant from the ‘Live Life Well’ government health strategy. Input from families, students and staff has led to this initiative. We appreciate the efforts of Ms Linda Glare for applying for the grant and her organisation and implementation of the strategy. K-2 Athletics Carnival On the last day of term, K-2 students participated in their special Sports Day on the school oval. Events included age races and a number of fun, rotational activities. The support of the House Captains in assisting the students and teachers on the day was appreciated by all. The event was a very nice way for the students to celebrate the last day of term. Zone Athletics On Wednesday 25 th September our students finally had the opportunity to participate in the Zone Athletics Carnival at Mingara. The weather (third time lucky!) was perfect for the event. Our representatives took the opportunity to challenge themselves to do their personal best. Waratah House Wiseberry Barbecue Congratulations goes to the members of Waratah House who were treated to a sausage sandwich on Wednesday in recognition of their achievements. Wiseberry Real Estate provided the food, cooking and serving this special treat. We appreciate their ongoing support to our school.

Kindergarten 2020 It was wonderful to see some of our 2020 Kindy students and parents during the school tour followed by a morning tea. Mrs Skinner and Mrs Downey had a wonderful time getting to know these little people during the tour. The children enjoyed the time with each other and discovering features in the school such as our painted playground markings. Our Kindergarten program will commence in Term 4 with our orientation for all the families on November 6. If you know of any families who live in our area and are school age please let them know we are taking enrolments now at the school office.

Value of the Month Today we recognised those students at the Value of the Month Assembly, who were selected as demonstrating consistently their ‘Personal Best’. These students’ faces beamed with pride as they received their certificates and badges this morning. There were many happy faces also when they shared a lovely morning tea with Mrs Skinner.

Peer Support – Week 10 In this week’s final session of the Peer Support module Keeping Friends the children participated in a board game, reinforcing all of the concepts and skills that have been learned over the past 7 weeks. They were reminded what the qualities of a good friend are and the skills needed to maintain friendships and tips on how to make new friends. Each group had the opportunity to celebrate what they have learnt and the new friendships and connections they have made. Thank you Year 6 students for an amazing 8 weeks of Peer Support. Tell Them From Me Survey

Our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me Parent Survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what you think about our school, how engaged your children are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with your children. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys.

Staff at our school will not be able to identify individuals from their responses and all responses will be anonymous. The survey typically takes 20 minutes or less to complete. Once the surveys are completed reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business days.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

Thank you in advance for completing the survey and giving us valuable feedback to ensure continuous improvement at our school.
