The Atomium is a 5 minute walk from the Heysel / Heizel Metro station (line 6), Mini-Europe, and the VILLO station 281.

Totem-phare dans le ciel bruxellois ; ni tour, ni pyramide, un peu cubique, un peu sphérique, à mi-chemin entre

sculpture et architecture, vestige du passé aux allures réso-lument futuristes, musée et lieu d’exposition ; l’Atomium est à la fois un objet, un lieu, un espace, une utopie et un emblème unique au monde, échappant à toute forme de classification.

L’Atomium n’était pas destinée à survivre au-delà de l’Expo-sition Universelle de 1958 mais sa popularité et son succès en firent rapidement un élément majeur du paysage d’abord bruxellois, puis national.

L'Atomium propose aujourd’hui à ses visiteurs :

• une ballade surréaliste à travers tubes et sphères• le plus beau panorama (360°) sur Bruxelles et ses environs• une pause-déjeuner bien méritée à 95 m de haut dans le restaurant panoramique (léger ou gastronomique, mais toujours 100 % belge)• une nouvelle exposition permanente sur le thème de l’histoire du bâtiment• des expositions temporaires aux thèmes variés• une boutique débordante de cadeaux originaux tous labellisés aux couleurs de l’Atomium

Een opvallende aanwezigheid in de Brusselse skyline. Geen toren, noch piramide, iets tussen beeldhouw-

kunst en architectuur. Een restant uit het verleden met een futuristische uitstraling. Een uniek uithangbord dat ontsnapt aan elke classificatie.

Het Atomium was niet voorbestemd om te overleven na de Wereldtentoonstelling van 1958. Haar populariteit en haar succes zorgden er echter voor dat ze snel uitgroeide tot een onmisbaar deel van het Brusselse en nationale landschap.

Het Atomium vandaag:

Dieses Totem im Brüsseler Himmel, das weder ein Turm, noch eine Pyramide ist, etwas kubisch, etwas

sphärisch, auf halbem Weg zwischen Skulptur und Architek-tur, Überbleibsel der Vergangenheit mit resolut futurischem Aussehen, Museum und Ausstellungshaus - das Atomium ist zugleich ein Gegenstand, ein Raum, eine Utopie und ein einzigartiges Emblem, das jeder Klassifizierung entbehrt.

Es war nicht vorgesehen, dass das Atomium nach der Welt-ausstellung 1958 fortbestehen sollte, aber die Popularität und der Erfolg ließen es bald zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil der Brüsseler und später auch der nationalen Landschaft werden.

Das Atomium heute:

• ein surrealistischer Spaziergang durch Röhren und Kugeln • das schönste Panorama über Brüssel und Umgebung • ein feines Mittagessen auf 95 m Höhe im Panorama-Restaurant (“light” oder gastronomisch,

immer 100 % belgisch)• eine neue Dauerausstellung über die Geschichte des Gebäudes • wechselnde Ausstellungen mit verschiedenen Themen • eine Boutique voller originelle Geschenke mit den Atomium-Farben

A seminal totem in the Brussels skyline. Neither tower, nor pyramid. Half-way between sculpture and archi-

tecture. A relic of the past with a determinedly futuristic look. The Atomium is the only symbol of its kind in the world, which eludes any kind of classification.

The Atomium was not intended to survive beyond the 1958 World Fair but its popularity and success soon made it a key landmark, first of Brussels then countrywide.
