  • VC-13 SOUADRON HISTORY

    F l e e t Composite Squadron THIRTEEN (VC-13) was commissioned a t New Orleans on 1 September 1973. I n i t i a l l y VC-13 operated the F-8H Crusader with a complement of 17 o f f i c e r s and 127 e n l i s t e d men, former members of the two decommissioned New Orleans Anti-Submarine Fighter Squadrons, VSF-76 and VSF-86. I n Apr i l 1974, t h e squadron t r a n s i t i o n e d t o t h e s ingle-sea t A4L Skyhawk. A s t h e demand f o r t h e se rv ices of VC-13 increased, the squadron began operat ing more detachments on t h e West Coast. F ina l ly , i n February 1976, VC-13 was permanently assigned NAS Miramar. During t h e Summer and F a l l of 1976, t h e squadron t r a n s i t i o n e d t o t h e TA4J Skyhawk, s i g n i f i c a n t l y increas ing i t s support c a p a b i l i t i e s .

    The "Fighting Saints" of VC-13 provide t h e f i n e s t , most var ied airborne se rv ices ava i l ab le t o surface and a i r u n i t s of t h e U. S. Armed Forces. In addi t ion t o t h e t r a d i t i o n a l t a r g e t presenta t ion mission flown by o the r composite squadrons, VC-13, u t i l i z i n g the work horse A-4 "Skyhawk" s e r i e s a i r c r a f t , provides r e a l i s t i c hands-on-hardware a i r combat readiness p r a c t i c e f o r u n i t s a s d iverse a s t h e CNO AEGIS Pro jec t , t h e U. S. Navy and A i r Force Fighter Weapons School, F ighter Squadrons of the Navy, Marine Corps and A i r Force, a s well a s count less s h i p and shore u n i t s from coas t t o coas t and ~ a n a d a . VC-13, has provided these se rv ices i n a t imely and profess ional manner and' has flown accident f r e e s ince i t s commissioning i n 1973.

  • Fleet Caaposite w o n THIMXEN (VC-13) was coemissiaaed at New Orleans on 1 September 1973. Initially VC-13 operated the F-8H Crusader with a axplement of 17 officers ard 127 enlisted men, former menibers of tlae two deamnissiaaed New Orleans Anti-Sulsararine Fighter Squadroc18, VSF-76 and VSF-86. In April 1974, the squdron transitioned to the single-seat ARL Skyhawk. As the demzud for the services of VC-13 increased, the squadron began aperating more deta-ts on the West Coast. Finally, in February 1976, VC-13 was pemanently assigned N?S Miramar. During the flumrer and Fall of 1976, the squadron transiticmed to the TA4J Sqhawk, significantly increasing its q p r t capabilities.

    The "Fighting Saints" of VC-13 provide the finest, mst Varied airborne services available to surface and air units of the U. S. Armed Forces. In addition to the traditiondl target presentation mission flown by other asnposite squadrons, VC-13, utilizing the w r k horse A 4 "Skyhawk" series aircraft, provides realistic hands-on-hardware air cadbat readiness practice for units as diverse as the CND AEGIS Project, the U. S. Navy ard Air Force Fighter Weapls School, Fighter Squadrons of the Navy, Marine Carps and Air Force, as well as anmtless ship and shore units fran coast to coast and Canada. VC-13, has provided these services in a timely and professional manner and has f lum accident free since its conmissioning in 1973.
