ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-2018
2017-2018
The inauguration ceremony of Tamil Department’s “Viyalavattam”, was held on
18.07.17. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. V. Britto S.J. gave the presidential address. Poet H. G.
Rasool, rendered the chief guest address.
On, 26.07.17, Mr. Muthalangurichu Kamarasu, a creator and journalist, delivered a
lecture.
On 03.08.17, poet S. S. Muthamil, a documentary film director rendered a lecture on the
topic “Ilakkiyathin Innoru Parinamam”.
On 11.08.17, Dr. P. Rajendran, Assistant Professor from Pasumpon Muthuramalinga
Devar College, offered a lecture on the topic “Agalaivu”.
On 26.09.17, Dr. S. Tamiliniyan, Head of the Department of Tamil, Sri Lakshmi Arts and
Science College, offered a lecture on the topic “Silambum Seyilaiyarum”.
On 07.12.17, Mr. S. Pattan, Tamil teacher from Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal Golden
Jubilee Matric school, offered a lecture on the topic ‘Potti Thaeruvugal Tamilai Thayatikum
Murai”.
On 23.01.18 Assistant professor, M. Murugan rendered a lecture on the topic “Tamil
Samuham Kattamaipum, Dalit Vaalviyalum”.
On 16-07-18, Prof. Dr. S. Karmegam from Folklore Department, St. Xavier’s College,
delivered a lecture on the topic “Tamil Panpattu Soolalil Sadangugal”.
On 26.02.18, M.Phil scholars of St. Xavier’s College presented papers on the topic
“Aivuthaedalum Perunmaigulum”.
On 6.03.18, M. Phil scholars of St. Xavier’s College presented papers on the topic
“Aivuthardalum Perunmaigulum”. Dr. S. Kanthan, the staff-in charge for “Viyalavattam” had
coordinated the events.
Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation
2017-2018
The Inauguration ceremony of Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation was successfully held
on 26-07-17. Mr. Muthalanguruchi Kamarasu was the chief guest of the day and he delivered a
speech on the topic “Nellaiyum Veeramamunivarum”.
In order to commemorate Poet Bharathi’s birthday, Sollarasi Karthika rendered a speech
on the topic‘Bharathiyin Vali’ on 11-12-2017. She explained the impact of Bharathi’s poem on
today’s youngsters.
On 22-02-18, the World Mother Tongue Day, poetry and essay writing competitions were
conducted for the students in order to glorify their mother tongue.
On 01-03-18, Mr. Sankararam delivered a speech on the topic “Ilakkiyam Enna Seium”.
All the 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students participated in the events organized by
Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation.
Endowment Lectures 2017-2018
Endowment lectures of the academic year 2017-2018 were conducted for the students in
the research point of view. Dr. S. Ignatius Endowment lecture was held on 18-09-17. Secretary
Dr. A. Antony Samy S. J. rendered the presidential address. Mr. S. Joseph Paulraj, offered a
lecture on the topic “Vegurana Makkalin Pothu Karuthiyal Thalangalum Palsamaya Urayaadal
Noakam”. In the second session, Principal Dr. V. Britto S. J. offered a lecture on the topic
“Nattar Samayathalathil Palsamaya Uraiyaadal”.
Dr. V. I. Subramanian Endowment lecture was held on 6-12-17. Dr. R. Ramachandran
delivered the presidential address in this event. Writer S. Peer Mohammed delivered a speech on
the topic “Maiya Neerotta Veyil Pengal”. Prof. P. S. Pandiyan Endowment lecture was
conducted on 18-12-2017. Principal Dr. V. Britto S. J. gave the presidential address. Prof. P.S.
Pandiyan, Former Head of the Department of Tamil, delivered a lecture on the topic
“Ilakiyamum Varalarum”.
Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Lourdusamy. S. J. Endowment lecture was held on 27-2-2018. Prof. P.S.
Pandiyan, Former Head of the Department of Tamil, delivered the presidential address. Dr. N.
Ramachandran, Director of Folklore Research Centre, delivered a lecture on the topic
“Caldwell”.
Thamizham 2017
The inter-collegiate cultural competition titled “Thamizham” was conducted on 03-10-17.
Students from 13 Colleges of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts participated in
the competitions like elocution, essay writing and quiz. Dr. R. Francis Xavier, Head of the
Department of Tamil, delivered the welcome address in the function. Principal Dr. V. Britto S.J.
presided over the function. Mrs. Thaenmoli, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax Department,
Palayamkottai, was the guest of honour. Mr. Mayan Ramesh Raja, Vice-president of Tamil
Cultural Development centre felicitated the gathering. Secretary Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Antony Samy S.
J. presided over the valediction ceremony. Dr. A. Shanmugavel, Head of the Department of
Economics, M.D.T Hindu College, and Mr. Saravanan were the Chief guests of the event. All
the arrangements were made by the staff-in-charge, Prof. A. Murugan.
Department of Tamil (Shift-II)
Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation
2017-2018
The inauguration ceremony of Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation was conducted on
18-07-17. Prof. Dr. A. John Paul delivered the welcome address. Prof Dr. A. K. Ignatius Xavier,
Coordinator of Undergraduate Tamil Department, rendered the mourning address in memory of
the Tamil writers who had passed away recently. Secretary Rev. Dr. A. Antony Samy S.J.,
Principal Rev. Dr. V. Britto Vincent S. J. and Deputy Principal Dr. V. S. Joseph Albert
felicitated the gathering. Poet K. Ganapathi Subramanian, the Chief Guest, offered the keynote
address on the topic “ILAKKIYA INBAM”. The Inauguration ceremony came to an end with the
vote of thanks given by Prof J. Albert, staff-in-charge of the association.
On 06-12-17, Tamil Foundation discourse was conducted on the subject “Pothigaium
Thamirabaranium” by writer Muthalangurichi Kamarasu. On 15-12-17, Mr. C. Isaivanan,
offered a lecture on the topic “Siraithurai Sinthanaigal”. On 10-01-18, Mr. Siva Ganeshan ,
Advocate, Tirunelveli, offered a speech on the topic “Kudiyurimai Satangal”.
On 22-03-18, Poet Arivumathi delivered a speech on “Poetics”. Secretary Rev. Dr.
Antony Samy S. J. felicitated the gathering. The activities of the foundation came to an end with
this event.
Endowment Lectures 2017-2018
On 06-03-18, Robert D. Nobili Endowment Lecture was held under the leadership of Principal
Rev. Fr. Dr. V. Britto S.J.. Dr. Joseph Iruthaya Xavier was the Chief Guest and he offered a
speech on “Traditional stories on St. Xavier”. Coordinator, Dr. Ignatius Xavier, felicitated the
gathering. All the arrangements were done by the staff-in-charge Dr. S. Ilangomani.

On 29/8/2016 a Seminar was organized on the title “Innthinaikalum Malarkalin
Thanmaikalum”. Dr. Venkatapan MD , Associate Professor , Government Siddha Medical
College , Tirunelveli was the resource person

The inauguration ceremony of the Veeramamunivar Tamil foundation was conducted on
15th
of August 2016. Mr. Abdul Majeer, a Nellai Tamil orator, was the chief guest of the
program. He delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Tamil Kalvi’
On 5th
January 2017, The Head of the Department of Tamil, Sivandhi Adithanar Arts and
Science collage, offered a lecture on the topic ‘Samayakuravar’. On 22-2-2017, P. S. Pandian,
the Former Head of the Department of Tamil, St Xavier’s College, offered a lecture on the topic
‘Sanga Illikathian Sirappu’. All the first and the second year undergraduate students participated
in the meetings conducted by Veeramamunivar Tamil foundation.
Endowment Lectures 2016-2017
On 6-9-2016, writer Vannadhasan delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Naanum En Padippugalum
for Rev. Dr. Fr. Lourdusamy S.J, Endowment. Dr. Jithaenthan, Assistant professor from
Sakathulla Appa college, Palayamkottai, delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Iruthaliyal Thathuvam
forPr of. P. Pandian, Endowment.
On 9-1-2017, writer Thavanyanthie conducted a training workshop on the topic of
‘Sirukathai, Novel, Padaipaga Nerimurugal for Prof. Dr. V. Kaesavaraj Endowment.
Rev. Dr. A. Loudusamy Endowment lecture was conducted on 21-2-2017. Writer Rev. Fr. Dr .S.
T. Selvaraj offered an inspiring speech on the topic ‘Kirithuvathil Aram’ in it. Mr.Sivasu, the
Former Head of the Department of Tamil, offered a Speech on the topic ‘Thiranahivaiyum
Navinathuvamum’ for Rev. Fr. Bakiyaraj S.J. Endowment.
On 2-3-2017, Dr.Darmaraj, Head of the Department of Folklore, Madurai Kamaraj
University, gave a speech on the topic ‘Vaarippu,Maruvaasippu,Panmugavaasipu’ for Dr. V. I.
Subramaniyam Endowment.
On 3-3-2017, Dr.Chellapperumal, Head of the Department of Anthropology,
Pondicherry Central University, offered a theoretical speech on the topic ‘Ilakkiyanum
Manidaviyalum’ for Dr. S. Ignatius Endowment. Dr Francis Xavier gave the welcome address
during the program. Prof Dr. S. Ravisesuraj, the staff in-charge, proposed the vote of thanks.
Department of Tamil (Shift -II)
Endowment Lectures 2016-2017
Robert. D. Nobili Endowment lecture which was established by Mr .S. George was
conducted on 16-09-16. Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Anbarasu S.J. offered an address on the topic
“Yesusabai Thuravigalin Madal”. Rev. Fr. N. Michael Berkmans Endowment lecture which was
established by Mr. N. Lordu Antony was conducted on 13-2-2017. Mr.Pattan, Tamil Teacher,
delivered a lecture on the topic “Velaivaaipil Tamilkalvi”. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. V. Britto
S.J., Secretary Rev. Fr. Dr. Antony Samy S.J., Deputy Principal, Dr. V. S. Joseph Albert and
Dr. R. Francis Xavier, Head of the Department of Tamil, felicitated the gathering. All the
arrangements were done by Prof. M. Murugan.
On 27-02-2017, a National Seminar on the topic “Tamil Ilakkiyathil Kalaikoorugal” was
conducted by the Tamil Department. The Proceedings of the seminar with more than hundred
research articles was released during the event. Dr. Raj Gauthaman, Former professor of
Pondicherry University and writer S. Bala Murugan were the chief guests of the Inauguration
ceremony. More than hundred research scholars and professors participated in the event. Writer
Kadigai Arulraj, gave the valedictory address. Dr. V. Rilbert Janarthanan was the coordinator of
the seminar.
ACADEMIC YEAR 2015-2016
Endowment Lectures 2015 - 2016
Prof. Dr. V. Rilbert Janarthan was the staff-in-charge of the Endowment Lectures in the
academic year 2015-16.
On 9-12-2015, the Endowment Inauguration Ceremony was held under the leadership of
Prof .A. Mani, Head of the Department Tamil. Vaanambadi poet Dr. K. Kanal Mainthan was
invited as the resource person for the Endowment lecture which was established by Prof. P.S.
Pandian. He gave an address on the topic ‘Theories of 20th
century Tamil literature’.
The Endowment lecture of Rev. Fr. A. Lourdu was conducted on 12-1-2016. Prof. Dr. N.
Stephee gave a lecture on the topic ‘Kirithuva Vaaimoli Illikayam’.
The Endowment lecture of Dr. V .I. Subramani was conducted on 25-1-2016. Writer P.
Narumbunathan delivered a speech on the topic ‘Karpithangal Thaandiya Panpadu’ and Dr. P .S.
Rajesh gave a speech on the topic ‘Maarkiya Nokkilsanga Illikayam’.
The Endowment lecture of Prof. Dr. V. Kesavaraj was conducted on 8-2-16. Dr. A.
Ramasamy and Prof. Madasamy delivered lectures on the topic ‘Sangam Penkavigal Pornearpum
Marupum’ and ‘Bhakathi Illikangal’ respectively.
The Endowment lecture of Rev. Dr. A. Lourdusamy S.J. was conducted on 16-2-2016. Dr.
A. Valarmathi Sundarsingh delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Illakkiyamum Iraimaiyum’. The
Endowment lecture of Prof. Dr. S. Ignatius was conducted on 4-3-16. Prof P. S. Pandian
delivered a speech on the topic ‘Tiruthondarkapiyam-An Analysis’. Prof Dr. A. Chellapa also
delivered a speech on the topic of ‘Kirithva Ilakkiya Aaivugal’.
UG - Tamil Department Endowment Lectures (Shift-II)
2015-2016
The Endowment Lecture on Robert D Nobili, established by Mr. S. George was
conducted under the guidance of Prof M. Balaselvi. It was inaugurated by Prof. A. Mani, the
Head of the Department Tamil. Dr. V. Kattali Kailaasam was the resource person of the event
and he delivered a speech on topic ‘Kalamthoorum Tamil Eluthukal’. Mr. Jose the founder of the
endowment participated in the event.
On 16-2-2016, Rev. Fr. N. Michael Berkmans S.J. Endowment Lecture was conducted
under the guidance of Prof. M. Balaselvi.. The Secretary Rev. Dr. R. Jesu Michael Das S.J.
felicitated the gathering. Prof .P. S. Pandian was the resource person of the event and he
delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Tamilllum Kiristhuvamum’. Prizes and shield were given to the
1st, 2
nd and 3
rd year students who had got the first mark in the previous semester.
ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-2015
The Inauguration ceremony of Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation was held on
11.12.2014 commemorating the birth anniversary of the great Tamil Poet Mahakavi
Bharathiyar. All the first year undergraduate students participated in the event. Prof. P.S.
Pandiyan, Former Head of the Department of Tamil, St. Xavier’s College, gave the keynote
address. A debate was conducted on the topic “Has Bharathi’s dream been fulfilled or not?”
Prof. P.S. Pandiyan was the judge of the debate. Dr. Francis Xavier, Associate professor of
Tamil and Dr. Eugeine Franco, Head of the Department of Commerce acted as the leaders of
the two groups. Further, a Tamil poetry competition was conducted on the topic of
“MELLATHAMIL INI” to enhance the creativity of the undergraduate students.
The Valedictiory ceremony of Veeramamunivar Tamil foundation was held on 24-02-2015.
Mr. Subramanian, a Suriyan F.M anchor, was invited as the chief guest and he gave a lecture on
the topic “TAMIL VAALVU”. All the second year undergraduate students participated in the
event. Special prizes were given to the students who won in the Tamil poetry competition. The
program came to an end with the vote of thanks of Prof. Dr. A. Antony Raj, the staff -in-charge
of the Association.
Endowment Lectures 2014-2015
On 28-01-2015, the Endowment lecture on Robert D. Nobli established by Mr. S.
George, was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Dr. T. Shamila Joster. The program was
inaugurated by Prof. A. Mani, Head of the Department of Tamil. Secretary Rev. Fr. Jesu
Michael Das presided over the function. Dr. P. Valan Aarasu, was invited as the chief guest and
he gave a lecture on the topic “THITHIKKUM THAEMBAVANI”. Mr. Jose, the endowment
creator took part in the event.
On 16-02-15, the Endowment lecture of Rev. Fr. N. Michael Berkmans. S.J, was held
under the guidance of the staff in-charge, Prof. T. Shamila Joster. Rev. Fr. Dr. T. Sahayaraj S.J,
Vice-Principal of the college was the chief guest. He gave an address on the topic ‘Christianity
in today’s Context’. Mr. Lourdu Antony, the endowment creator, gave away the shield and
prizes to the students who got first mark in the previous semester.
MUTHAMIL VILA -2015
Undergraduate Tamil Department conducted a state level cultural competition titled
“MUTHAMIL VILA” on 23-01-2015. Students from several colleges participated in the event.
Prof. A. John Paul, coordinator of Undergraduate Tamil Department, presented the welcome
address.
The Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Gilbert Camilus S.J., gave the presidential address during the
inauguration ceremony. The Secretary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Jesu Michael Das, felicitated the gathering.
Prof. A. Mani, Head of the Department of Tamil, gave the key note address. Dr. M.Paul
Devasahayam, Director and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Quwait University, was the
chief guest of the event. In his address, he insisted on the addition of textbooks regarding art
training in the current syllabus. Prof Shamila Joster proposed the vote of thanks which was
followed by the cultural programme.
The event came to an end with the valediction ceremony. Prof. J. Albert, gave the welcome
address. It was followed by the prize distribution. Prof. Rexi, Vice Principal gave the Valedictory
address. Dr. Xavier Amalraj, Head of the Department of English, Aditanar College, gave away
the prizes and rolling trophy to the winners of the competitions. Mr. V. Robinson Muthukumar
and Mr. Baskar, were also invited as the Chief guests. The function came to end with the vote of
thanks given by Prof. A. John Paul, Coordinator of Under graduate Tamil Department.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014
Veeramunivar Tamil Foundation is a Tamil Association which helps the under graduate
students to exhibit their talents and develop an interest in Tamil literature. The inauguration
ceremony of “Veeramamunivar Tamil Foundation” was held under the leadership of Dr. R.
Francis Xavier on 08-08-2013. Young research scholar Ms. Arumuga Selvi and Ms. Durga were
selected as the Secretary and the Joint Secretary respectively. On 16-08-2013, Dr. Ithayaraj, gave
an address on the topic ‘VARITHALUM VELIYIDUTHALUM’. On 13-09-2013, Dr. S.V.L.
Michael offered a speech on the topic “Kavithai Vaasithalum Kavithai Eluthalum”. On 30-09-
2013, Dr. Mary Jelastin Kala delivered an address on the topic ‘Pechukalaium Ethirkollalum’.
On 19-10-2013, the Poetry Festival was held on the topic ‘Yugangalai Munthuvom’. Dr.
Kanthan, Dr. Rilbert Janarthanan, Dr. Kavitha and a few students read poetry under the
leadership of Dr. A. K. Ignatius Xavier. The events for the academic year came to an end with
the valedictory function which was conducted on 03-03-2014. Prizes were distributed to the
students who had won in poetry, essay writing and elocution completions.
