1. Course Descriptions

This course will provide the dental student with information and knowledge in dental

occlusion and its related topics through preclinical procedures.

PRE-REQUISITE: NONE

COURSE CREDIT: 2 CREDIT HOURS

• One (1) Credit Hour = One (1) hour lectures for one semester

• One (1) Credit Hour = Three (3) hour lab weekly for one semester

PURPOSE:

1. This is course will provide a basis for evaluation and problem-solving in dental

occlusion. It will integrate the knowledge learned in Dental Anatomy with ideal and

functional occlusion. The course builds on knowledge of tooth morphology and the

nomenclature gained in Dental Anatomy.

2. This course will provide the dental student with information and knowledge in dental

occlusion and its related topics through preclinical procedures.

3. By the end of this course, the student will be able to fabricate dental restorations that

meet anatomical, morphological and functional requirements and analyze occlusal

interferences.

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance is mandatory for all lectures and laboratory sessions. Grades are based on

practical requirements and the written assessments.

COURSE EVALUATION:

In order to receive a passing grade for the course, the student must pass both

the continuous assessment and the final exam, as the following:

(50 % Practical + 50 % Theory)

1. Continuous Assessment (50%)

a. Quizzes 10%

b. Mid-term theory exam 20%

c. Mid-term practical exam 10%

d. Projects in practical sessions (Logbook) 05%

e. Attendance & Punctuality in session 05%

Total 50%

2. Final Exam (50%)

a. Written Exam 20%

b. Practical Exam 30%

Total 50%

GRADING SYSTEM:

D+ = 65 - 69 D = 60 – 64

F = Less Than 60

LAB REQUIREMENT

1. Mounting a dentulous cast on the arcon WhipMix articulator. The casts must be

mounted in centric occlusion with contacts between upper and lower canines, with the

incisal guide table set properly.

2. Waxing the occlusal surface of teeth and the cast mounted on the articulator.

LAB RULES:

Students are advised to strictly follow the rules during the lab sessions:

1) The students should enter the lab on time, maximum delay of ten minutes will

be permissible in case of exceptional circumstances only. The students entering

the lab session after that will not be considered for the attendance.

2) The lab coat is a must for all the students.

3) All the students should be ready with all the instruments required for that

session as guided by the course director/ group supervisor.

4) Students must return the instruments at the end of each session.

5) Students must use instruments and articulator properly and return them in the

same original shape they have received. Return Articulator at the end of the

semester.

6) Students are requested to maintain the neatness and smooth full maintenance

of the equipment’s and instruments in lab.

7) Students should take care of their belongings. The course director, other staff

members and college authorities will not be responsible for the loss.

9) Students should respect all the staff members; any indiscipline will not be

tolerated.

10) At the end of the session, it is student’s responsibility to clean his work place and

return the instruments to the store. Fail to do so will be deduction of 2 marks

from the project.

11) During demonstration students are advised to maintain the silence and should

observe the procedure clearly. NO REPETITION will be done.

12) Students are advised to submit the work within the prescribed time. Late

submission will not be evaluated or may fetch less mark.

members on rotatory basis.

15) Absence in the lab without prior information will not be tolerated.

16) Students are advised to take the evaluation of their work on the same day.
