A. Installer Qualifications: An entity that employs installers and supervisors who are trained andapproved by manufacturer to apply packaged patching-mortar materials.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS, GENERAL

A. Source Limitations: Obtain each color, grade, finish, type, and variety of product from singlesource with resources to provide products of consistent quality in appearance and physicalproperties.

B. VOC Content: Provide materials that comply with VOC limits of authorities having jurisdiction.

2.2 BONDING AGENTS

A. Epoxy-Modified, Cementitious Bonding and Anticorrosion Agent: Manufactured product thatconsists of water-insensitive epoxy adhesive, portland cement, and water-based solution ofcorrosion-inhibiting chemicals that forms a protective film on steel reinforcement.

1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide ArdexBonding & Anti-Corrosion Agent or comparable product by one of the following:

2.3 PATCHING MORTAR

A. Patching Mortar, General:

1. Only use patching mortars that are recommended by manufacturer for each applicablehorizontal, vertical, or overhead use orientation.

2. Color and Aggregate Texture: Provide patching mortar and aggregates of colors and sizesnecessary to produce patching mortar where indicated that matches existing, adjacent,exposed concrete.

3. Coarse Aggregate for Patching Mortar: ASTM C 33, washed aggregate, Size No. 8,Class 5S. Add to patching-mortar mix only as permitted by patching-mortar manufacturer.

B. Polymer-Modified, Cementitious Patching Mortar: Packaged, dry mix for repair of concrete andthat contains a latex additive as either a dry powder or a separate liquid that is added duringmixing.

1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Ardex ; ERMExterior Ramp Mortar. or a comparable product by one of the following:

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

A. Ensure that State and manufacture’s supervisory personnel are on-site and on duty whenconcrete maintenance work begins, during its progress and when installation of repair mortaroccurs.

B. Protect persons, motor vehicles, surrounding surfaces of building being restored, building site,plants, and surrounding buildings from harm resulting from concrete maintenance work.

1. Comply with each product manufacturer's published instructions for protections andprecautions.

2. Contain dust and debris generated by concrete maintenance work and prevent it fromreaching the public or adjacent surfaces.

3. Protect floors and other surfaces along haul routes from damage, wear, and staining.4. Provide supplemental sound-control treatment to isolate removal and dismantling work

from other areas of the building.5. Neutralize and collect alkaline and acid wastes for disposal off State's property.

3.2 APPLICATION

A. General: Comply with manufacturer's published instructions and recommendations forapplication of products, including surface preparation.

B. Epoxy-Modified, Cementitious Bonding and Anticorrosion Agent: Apply to reinforcing bars andconcrete according to manufacturer's published instructions. Apply to reinforcing bars in twocoats, allowing first coat to dry two to three hours before applying second coat. Allow to drybefore placing patching mortar.

C. Placing Patching Mortar: Place as follows unless otherwise recommended in writing bymanufacturer:

1. Provide forms where necessary to confine patch to required shape.2. Wet substrate and forms thoroughly and then remove standing water.3. Pretreatment: Apply specified bonding agent.4. General Placement: Place patching mortar by troweling toward edges of patch to force

intimate contact with edge surfaces. For large patches, fill edges first and then worktoward center, always troweling toward edges of patch. At fully exposed reinforcing bars,force patching mortar to fill space behind bars by compacting with trowel from sides ofbars.

5. Lifts: Place material in lifts of not more nor less than thickness recommended bymanufacturer. Do not feather edge.

6. Consolidation: After each lift is placed, consolidate material and screed surface.7. Multiple Lifts: Where multiple lifts are used, score surface of lifts to provide a rough

surface for placing subsequent lifts. Allow each lift to reach final set before placingsubsequent lifts.

8. Finishing: Allow surfaces of lifts that are to remain exposed to become firm and then finishto a surface matching adjacent concrete.

9. Curing: Wet-cure cementitious patching materials, including polymer-modifiedcementitious patching materials, for not less than seven days by water-fog spray or water-saturated absorptive cover.

METAL GRATING STAIRS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section includes industrial-type, stairs with steel-grating treads and railings attached to metal grating stairs.

1.2 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For metal grating stairs.

B. Shop Drawings: Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments.

C. Delegated-Design Submittal: For stairs, including analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Delegated Design: Engage a qualified professional engineer, as defined in Section 01 40 00 "Quality Requirements," to design stairs and railings.

B. Structural Performance of Stairs: Metal stairs shall withstand the effects of gravity loads and the following loads and stresses within limits and under conditions indicated:

1. Uniform Load: 100 lbf/sq. ft.. 2. Concentrated Load: 300 lbf applied on an area of 4 sq. in.. 3. Uniform and concentrated loads need not be assumed to act concurrently. 4. Stair Framing: Capable of withstanding stresses resulting from railing loads in

addition to loads specified above.

C. Seismic Performance of Stairs: Metal stairs shall withstand the effects of earthquake motions determined according to ASCE/SEI 7.

1. Component Importance Factor: 1.5.

2.2 METALS

A. Metal Surfaces, General: Provide materials with smooth, flat surfaces unless otherwise indicated. For components exposed to view in the completed Work, provide materials without seam marks, roller marks, rolled trade names, or blemishes.

B. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars: ASTM A 36/A 36M.

C. Rolled-Steel Floor Plate: ASTM A 786/A 786M, rolled from plate complying with ASTM A 36/A 36M or ASTM A 283/A 283M, Grade C or D.

D. Steel Bars for Grating Treads: ASTM A 36/A 36M or steel strip, ASTM A 1011/A 1011M or ASTM A 1018/A 1018M.

E. Wire Rod for Grating Crossbars: ASTM A 510.

F. Cast Iron: Either gray iron, ASTM A 48/A 48M, or malleable iron, ASTM A 47/A 47M, unless otherwise indicated.

G. Cast-Abrasive Nosings: Cast iron, with an integral abrasive, as-cast finish consisting of aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, or a combination of both.

2.3 FASTENERS

A. Provide zinc-plated fasteners with coating complying with ASTM B 633 or ASTM F 1941, Class Fe/Zn 12 for exterior use, and Class Fe/Zn 5 where built into exterior walls. Select fasteners for type, grade, and class required.

2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

A. Shop Primers: Provide primers that comply with Section 09 91 13 "Exterior Painting" and Section 09 91 23 "Interior Painting."

B. Universal Shop Primer: Fast-curing, lead- and chromate-free, universal modified-alkyd primer complying with MPI#79 and compatible with topcoat.

C. Galvanizing Repair Paint: High-zinc-dust-content paint complying with SSPC-Paint 20 and compatible with paints specified to be used over it.

2.5 FABRICATION, GENERAL

A. Provide complete stair assemblies, including metal framing, hangers, clips, brackets, bearing plates, and other components necessary to support and anchor stairs and platforms on supporting structure.

1. Join components by welding unless otherwise indicated. 2. Use connections that maintain structural value of joined pieces.

B. Weld connections to comply with the following:

2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. 3. Remove welding flux immediately. 4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds to comply with NOMMA's

"Voluntary Joint Finish Standards" for Type 4 welds: good quality, uniform undressed weld with minimal splatter.

C. Fabricate joints that are exposed to weather in a manner to exclude water. Provide weep holes where water may accumulate.

2.6 STEEL-FRAMED STAIRS

A. NAAMM Stair Standard: Comply with "Recommended Voluntary Minimum Standards for Fixed Metal Stairs" in NAAMM AMP 510, "Metal Stairs Manual," Industrial Class, unless more stringent requirements are indicated.

B. Stair Framing:

1. Fabricate stringers of steel plates or channels.

a. Provide closures for exposed ends of channel stringers.

2. Construct platforms of steel plate or channel headers and miscellaneous framing members as needed to comply with performance requirements.

3. Weld or bolt stringers to headers; weld or bolt framing members to stringers and headers.

C. Metal Bar-Grating Stairs: Form treads and platforms to configurations shown from metal bar grating; fabricate to comply with NAAMM MBG 531, "Metal Bar Grating Manual."

1. Fabricate treads and platforms from welded or pressure-locked steel grating with openings in gratings no more than 1/2 inch in least dimension.

2. Surface: Plain. 3. Finish: Galvanized. 4. Fabricate grating treads with cast-abrasive nosing and with steel angle or steel

plate carrier at each end for stringer connections. Secure treads to stringers with bolts.

2.7 STAIR RAILINGS

A. Comply with applicable requirements in Section 05 52 13 "Pipe and Tube Railings."

1. Rails may be bent at corners, rail returns, and wall returns, instead of using prefabricated fittings.

2. Connect posts to stair framing by direct welding unless otherwise indicated.

A. Finish metal stairs after assembly.

B. Galvanizing: Hot-dip galvanize items as indicated to comply with ASTM A 153/A 153M for steel and iron hardware and with ASTM A 123/A 123M for other steel and iron products.

C. Preparation for Shop Priming: Prepare uncoated ferrous-metal surfaces to comply with SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3, "Commercial Blast Cleaning."

D. Apply shop primer to uncoated surfaces of metal stair components, except those with galvanized finishes and those to be embedded in concrete or masonry unless otherwise indicated. Comply with SSPC-PA 1, "Paint Application Specification No. 1: Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel," for shop painting.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required for installing metal stairs. Set units accurately in location, alignment, and elevation, measured from established lines and levels and free of rack.

B. Field Welding: Comply with requirements for welding in "Fabrication, General" Article.

3.2 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A. Touchup Painting: Immediately after erection, clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas of shop paint, and paint exposed areas with same material as used for shop painting to comply with SSPC-PA 1 for touching up shop-painted surfaces.

B. Galvanized Surfaces: Clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas and repair galvanizing to comply with ASTM A 780/A 780M.

A. Accessibility Standard: Comply with applicable provisions in California Code of Regulations Title 24, Part 2 CBC.

B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with ASME A18.1, "Safety Standard for Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts" and California Code of Regulations Title 8 as applicable.

2.2 VERTICAL PLATFORM LIFT

2.3 FASTENERS

1. Material for Interior Locations: Carbon-steel components zinc-plated to comply with ASTM B 633 or ASTM F 1941 (ASTM F 1941M), Class Fe/Zn 5, unless otherwise indicated.

B. Power-Actuated Fasteners: Fastener systems with an evaluation report acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, based on ICC-ES AC70.

2.4 FINISHES

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Minimum Headroom Clearance: Verify that installed lift will have a minimum headroom of 80 inches above any point on platform floor at any point of travel.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. General: Comply with ASME A18.1 and manufacturer's written instructions for installation of lifts unless otherwise indicated.

B. Wiring Method: Conceal conductors and cables within housings of units.

C. Coordinate runway doors with platform travel and positioning, for accurate alignment and minimum clearance between platforms, runway doors, sills, and door frames.

D. Position sills accurately and fill space under sills solidly with nonshrink, nonmetallic grout.

E. Coordinate platform doors with platform travel and positioning.

F. Adjust stops for accurate stopping at each landing.

G. Adjust retractable ramps to meet maximum allowable slope and change-in-elevation requirements, and to lie fully against landing surfaces.

H. Lubricate operating parts of lift, including drive mechanism, guide rails, hinges, safety devices, and hardware.

3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Acceptance Testing: On completion of lift installation and before permitting use of lifts, perform acceptance tests as required and recommended by ASME A18.1 and authorities having jurisdiction.

B. Operating Test: In addition to acceptance testing, load lifts to rated capacity and operate continuously for 30 minutes between lowest and highest landings served. Readjust stops, signal equipment, and other devices for accurate stopping and operation of system.

3.4 DEMONSTRATION

A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel to adjust, operate, and maintain lifts. Include a review of emergency systems and emergency procedures to be followed at time of operational failure and other building emergencies.

B. Check operation of lifts with Owner's personnel present and before date of Substantial Completion. Determine that operating systems and devices are functioning properly.

C. Check operation of lifts with Owner's personnel present not more than one month before end of warranty period. Determine that operating systems and devices are functioning properly.
