With a need for more advanced thinkers and innovators in the United States to compete with a growing global marketplace, McNeese State University is offering a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in gifted education.

The gifted education program at McNeese is designed to provide educators with a solid background in integrated teaching methods, enabling them to engage gifted students in any classroom setting. Courses have been selected to provide educators with the skills and knowledge in current learning theory and to then translate this information for use in the classroom.

Certification in gifted education is also available for students who already have a master’s degree in education. Completion of this program provides students with both a certificate in gifted education and knowledge relating to the needs of gifted students.

HyBRID CLAssEsGifted education methods courses will be taught as hybrid Web courses, with the majority of classwork online and via observed competency criteria. However, classes will meet approximately four to five times a semester in order to engage students in intellectual discussion, participation in class projects and work with gifted materials. If students cannot attend these classes, videoconferencing via available computers is an option.
