• “As we begin this semester I want to take a few minutes and discuss emergency preparedness. Purdue University is a very safe campus and there is a low probability that a serious incident will occur here at Purdue. However, just as we receive a “safety briefing” each time we get on an aircraft, we want to emphasize our emergency procedures for evacuation and shelter in place incidents. Our preparedness will be critical if an unexpected event occurs.”

• Experiment:– For Fall 2014, faculty will not be charged (nor TAs for courses) for
copying…– No allocations for courses have been made (e.g., $1.50 allocation per

– Initiatives focused on grand challenges of STEM education and social justice. Category I proposal, for projects up to $25,000, are due September 1. Category II pre-proposals, for projects up to $100,000, are due October 1. (Full proposal submissions will be invited.)
• EVPRP Non-Laboratory Research Infrastructure and Equipment– Fund research equipment and materials. Tier 1 applications ,

– In keeping with Graduate School policy that departments undergo graduate reviews every 5 years, EDST will engage in a self-study and external review this fall.
• New Graduate Policies– Graduate students are required to complete a sexual violence
awareness program by Sept. 30.– The Graduate School will be rolling out a new thesis deposit
form that will require the student and major professor to sign a statement attesting that the thesis has been checked in iThenticate and any plagiarism issues have been addressed.

• New EdIT team member: Nile Seward (started 7/28)• SPSS – now licensed for entire campus• NVivo – limited campus license• Camtasia and SnagIT – licensed for entire campus• Cisco WebEx should be replacing Adobe Connect soon• A “Canvas” LMS pilot is taking place this fall and next
spring – potential Blackboard replacement• 6th floor Collaboration Room – Apple TV for iPad screen

• New online Tutor Sign-Up system developed for the College by EdIT for this fall
• Office 2013 deployment in the wings, announcement and tech talks to come in the fall (volunteers welcome)
• Windows 8 – in a holding pattern for desktops/laptops, however, we now have several Windows 8 tablets in the College
