A dental implant is an artifi cial replacement for the root part of a tooth. They can be mini or full. An implant takes the form of a small metal post which is cylinder shaped. The implant is inserted and allowed time to fuse with your bone. Once this has happened, a replacement tooth/crown can be fi tted to it via a small attachment. Dental implants look like real teeth. You can chew, brush and most importantly, eat like normal. With proper care, dental implants will last a lifetime.
The difference between Mini and Full Dental Implants:
Mini Dental Implants are less expensive than traditional Implants, but they are not permanent. They will generally last for 5-10 years. They will help to prevent bone loss and still feel like real teeth.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants 101
Teeth-In-A-Day is an implant system designed to allow you to walk into our offi ce without teeth and walk out, the same day with permanent teeth, no joke! You will receive four implants and a full set of new replacement teeth, per arch. Traditional implants require six, eight or even more implants per arch, and patients often need bone grafting, which could require six months or more of healing time. The procedure saves you time and money, all with minimal discomfort.
The All-on-4® treatment concept created by Nobel was developed to provide edentulous patients with an effi cient and effective restoration using only four implants to support an immediately loaded full-arch prosthesis.
If you have failing teeth and are a candidate for Teeth-In-A-Day All-On-4, tooth extraction may be required.
Benefi ts of Teeth-In-A-Day Implant Tooth Replacement Therapy:
• Same-day tooth replacement• Look and function like natural teeth• Preservation and improvement of facial structure• Long lasting tooth replacement• Improved ability to eat• Improved ability to speak• Improved self-esteem• Improved quality of life
Teeth-In-A-Day Treatment
All-On-4 technology created by Nobel Biocare has proven to have good clinical results.
Biomechanical measurements show that tilted implants, when part of prosthetic support, do not have a
negative effect on the load distribution. The tilting of implants has been used in clinical practice for over a
decade and has shown good results.
Did you know…
Dental Implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device.
With more than three decades of clinical
experience and over a million patients treated, statistics
confi rm a success rate of nearly 95 percent for individual Nobel Biocare dental implants, and even higher for the bridges
they support.
“Hi Dr. Gelfand, I am just getting a few minutes today to catch up a bit. Everyone is telling my teeth look amazing. So, I’m not the only one enjoying the job you did for me.
You chanced my life, my friend! I’m starting to feel even better than normal and I know I still have more healing to do. You’re one amazing dentist!”

about bone loss. – Nobel Biocare 2008
International Study
Bone loss will occur when a missing tooth is not replaced. As soon as the natural teeth are removed or fall out, the face begins to age rapidly due to bone loss. If you wait too long before replacing missing teeth, the muscles that let you chew your food begin to shorten to accommodate the reduced space between your nose and your chin. Dental Implants are well known in their ability to stop bone loss and restore facial skeletal structure.
Dental implants are the best option for people of all ages with good oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to an accident, gum disease or injury. Some chronic diseases, heavy smoking or alcohol abuse may warrant special consideration.
How do I know if I am a candidate for Dental Implants?
What will happen if I don’t replace my missing teeth?
Did You Know?
1. Drifting of adjacent teeth: when there is a missing tooth, opposing teeth may over-erupt and adjacent teeth may drift into the empty spaces, resulting in food trapping and possible decay
2. Diffi culty chewing: missing teeth cause issues with chewing that could possibly result in indigestion. In more extreme cases, malnutrition is a potential threat if a person is unable to eat a proper balanced diet.
3. Poor appearance and bone loss: loss of youthful facial structure due to bone resorption can cause a person to appear much older than they really are.
4. Loss of lip support: lips will fold into the mouth and appear much smaller than they once did.
5. Poor speech: diffi culty in speaking, especially if front teeth are missing
Consequences From Loss of Teeth Without Replacement:
Condition: Missing and discoloured teeth.Treatment: Dental Implants, Crowns and Porcelain Veneers.Treatment Duration: 4 months.

Exam and impressions are completed to create a temporary replacement, if needed.
Your Dental Implant is placed and temporary replacement is put on, if needed.
The dentist will assess your progress. The healing cap is removed and cast post core is inserted. Impressions are taken again to fabricate customized tooth.
3-6 months later a personalized crown is inserted.
If all your upper or lower teeth are missing, a custom-made denture may be permanently secured using implants. The number of implants will vary for each patient. You will be fi tted for a custom Overdenture that attaches directly to the Implants. Your new teeth will then be fi rmly supported by the implants, which will also help to stimulate the jaw and maintain bone.
Too many people who have conventional dentures don’t wear them for the simple fact that they don’t stay in place. Implant Supported Dentures offer a way to keep dentures in place and allow you to go about your daily life with confi dence.

““Will my insurance cover this?”
Most insurance companies classify dental implants as a cosmetic procedure and therefore don’t often offer coverage. However, the good news is that not all insurance companies classify implant procedures the same. There are a handful of insurance companies that can help you fi nance your implants.

Dental practices may advertise that their implants start below $1,000, but the truth is that they haven’t factored in the restoration portion of the treatment, which in most cases is half the cost.
All prices are based on Dawson pricing (lab fees included), which follows the Ontario Dental Association fee guide, but may differ slightly by location. Prior to the beginning of any treatment, a comprehensive exam and digital x-rays will be necessary, which costs roughly $250.
At Dawson, we offer no interest fi nancing options to fi t any budget. Also, keep in mind that you could receive a return of up to 20% on your investment come tax time using Canada Revenue Agency’s medical expense tax credit. You can apply online or in-offi ce.
Fees & Financing
Bone augmentation is now possible for either one tooth, several implanted teeth, or a full mouth. We can increase width of bone as well as its height, if necessary.
This procedure involves grafting (adding) bone or bonelike materials to the jaw. The graft can be your own bone or be processed bone. After grafting, you may have to wait several months for the grafted material to fuse with the existing bone. Also, if your upper back teeth are too close to the sinus, there is a procedure which allows us to shrink the sinus before bone is added.
After bone augmentation, dentists may need to wait four to nine months before placing implants.
Bone augmentation ranges in from approximately: $490-$1295. If there is sinus involvement, the fee may range from $835-$2314.
Dentures are an affordable alternative to dental implants. However, dentures need on-going care. Realignment is recommended every two years ($280+/each visit) and you are often limited with food selection. Unfortunately, Dentures will not prevent or reverse bone loss.
We understand that surgery can be scary, which is why Dawson offers sedation options to relieve even the most severe anxiety. Approximately 35% of our patients choose to use either oral, nitrous or IV sedation to complete their treatment.
