The Richard J. and Martha D. Denman Undergraduate Research Forum showcases outstanding research,

scholarship, and creative activity by students at The Ohio State University. The Forum celebrates their

discovery, innovation and encourages undergraduates to apply for this event to help enrich their education.

The 24th Annual Richard J. and Martha D. Denman Undergraduate Research Forum will take place at the newly renovated Pomerene Hall in the Mirror Lake District. Students will present their research during

I am delighted to welcome you to the 2019 Richard J. and Martha D. Denman Undergraduate Research Forum! This prestigious annual event showcases the talent and achievement of 205 Ohio State fourth-year undergraduate students. Our land-grant mission is to educate the next generation of leaders and encourage students to strive for progress. The undergraduates presenting in this year’s forum demonstrate the unrivaled academic and scientific prowess that advances Ohio State’s position as a 21st century public research university. These students are working at the frontiers of their respective fields, and they do so with exemplary determination and creativity. I am very proud of their enthusiasm, tenacity and diligence. The state, the nation and the broader world depend on the intellectual curiosity and social awareness of these talented young men and women. Their combined efforts combat the issues of today and give us hope for a better tomorrow. We have the ultimate privilege to witness what they have already discovered. Marte and I take great pride and pleasure in welcoming you to the 24th Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, an academic stage for the most talented and highly motivated senior undergraduates, to present their research projects. The significant global socioeconomic changes that are presently taking place will have a tremendous impact upon their future lives. Combining their research experience with their classroom learnings will greatly prepare and aid them in taking their place in a changing, challenging and highly competitive environment—and in the process, make meaningful contributions to science and society. Over many years, Marte and I have received correspondence from many student participants who have graduated, stating their participation in the Denman has helped them gain admission to graduate school or given them the skills to succeed in the workplace. Today, we will have the opportunity to view their discoveries.
