Dear Parishioners, This last Wednesday we welcomed Deacon
Tyler Raymond one of the newest transitional
deacons in the Archdiocese. He will be living in Calmar with me and will begin his diaconal ministry with
us. We are very blessed to have another seminarian sent to
us. It is a real act of confidence by the Archbishop in our parish communities to nurture vocations and to help men as
they prepare for sacred ordination to the priesthood. !! Not every parish has a seminarian sent to them, so this
makes this summer extra special having Deacon Tyler among
us. Please welcome him with open arms and encourage him
as he begins his preaching ministry among us. This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ or traditionally known as Corpus
Christi. It is the summer celebration of our belief in the Real
Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. This is truly
our most cherished belief. If you would rank the most
important doctrines of our faith, the three most important
doctrines would be: 1. The Most Holy Trinity 2. The Incarnation 3. Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
The first two beliefs are what makes us Christian, but the
belief in the Real Presence is what makes us Catholic. Other Christian churches celebrate the Eucharist, but our belief that
Jesus is truly present, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity is
what makes us truly unique. We truly offer worship to the
Eucharist because the Eucharist is God Himself on our altars
in our churches. So one thought to consider this weekend is how do you
receive Holy Communion? Do you reverently and with respect receive the host and take the chalice in your
hands. Are you careless with the host in your hands? Do you bow before you receive? Do you realize who are you are
receiving? Do you need to go to confession to worthily receive him? Do you truly bring a living faith to holy
communion or is it just a habit. If it is a habit and not with much devotion, is it time to reconsider how you are receiving
him in Holy Communion? Is it time to attend Mass without
receiving communion and ask yourself the question, “Is there
any difference?” If you bring living faith to Holy Communion, it will
change for you. It will become the most important moment of
your week; to receive the Son of God in your soul so that the
Son of God can transform your soul. I pray that all of us have great reverence, love, and respect
for the Most Blessed Sacrament! I pray that we may never
take it for granted because if we do, maybe the Lord will take
it from us to make us long for it even more! Let us love Jesus in the Eucharist and let us help others to love Jesus in the
Eucharist! God bless!
