Canteen News
Many thanks to Naomi, Thiona and Janette for so kindly
catering for the Super 8s cricket at the Rams Oval on
Friday.
North Students-Terrific Ambassadors
It has been really pleasing over the last week to hear such
positive things from staff about the Northies at
different excursions and sporting events.
Mr and Mrs Hanns were very impressed with the way
students had such a smashing time on some warm and sunny
days, at the Super 8s cricket, with Mrs Hanns leaving me a
note after the Grade 5/6 Super 8s, saying, “ the kids
were really good-we had a great day.”
Teachers were also glowing in their praise, again of Grades
5 and 6 on the Canberra excursion and to top it all off, the
feedback from the Echuca excursion was equally as
effusive.
Nice one kids!
-And thanks again to all staff and parents/carers that
chipped in to help make these things happen.
Stage 2 Students Wonga Wetlands Excursion
It’s time for students in Grades 3 and 4 to carry the flag
and wave their outstanding behaviour over the Wonga
Wetlands on Wednesday. This promises to be, yet again a
wonderful experience for our students.
Students are reminded of the importance of wearing hats,
sunscreen and remaining hydrated with plenty of water on
excursions, such as this.
Library Book Returns
Students please note that all library books that have been
borrowed are now due back. There will be no library book
borrowing for the remainder of the year.
Intensive Swimming Has Begun
This very important annual ‘learn-to swim’ program
commenced yesterday. Participating students are required
to bring along swimmers, towel, a bag for wet items,
sunscreen and hat, each day for the next 2 weeks.
Shopping Spree-Great Fundraiser!
The cash is in the bank, and it amounts to a very pleasing
$2890– a nice little earner (as Arthur Daly would say!).
Our thanks to all parents that helped with the event’s
organisation.
Camp Four Post-Holiday Camps

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking
Competition State Final By Isabel Osborne
‘I came. I saw. I sort of conquered.’
It was a GREAT eight hour trip to Sydney for my parents and
myself. We arrived after a bit of stress when we found out
that the MPPS (Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking)
State Final was in fact at 9:30 the next morning, not 1:30 in
the afternoon like some people thought… However, all
was forgiven and I went to bed after a good dose of the
ABC news.
It was an early start to catch the train into the city, and a
struggle to find Ultimo ABC Centre, resolved by my
extraordinary iPhone navigating. We arrived and I was
confident that I had my prepared speech down pat. It was the
impromptu that worried me… in the MPPS, students are
required a prepared speech on one of the few topics given to
students at the start of the competition early in the year. The
real nail-biter for us contestants is the impromptu speech
division, where children are given a topic and we only have
FIVE MINUTES to prepare a dazzling two minute long
speech.
The competition started and I was set to be the third speaker
of the day. As a complete stranger said, ‘It was a big
auditorium, and the first two girls gave great speeches, but it
was very hard to hear them, but when you got up, the
acoustics in the room became obvious and I could hear you
loud and clear’. My speech was on the topic ‘The Power of
People like Me’ and was required to be multicultural, and to
quote my mother; ‘You nailed it’.
The rest of the speeches continued and before we all knew it,
the impromptus were on their way, and we were all reminded
that this section of the competition was NOT required to be
multicultural. The topic was unveiled as we were whisked
into a preparation room it was confirmed…
‘Putting on a show’
The tension built and the first two speeches flew by as the
North entourage waited with baited breath for me to be
introduced. When I was, I strode confidently towards the
centre stage, calming my nerves by taking my cousins advice,
picturing a golden light and standing in it. I began to speak
and talked about the Olympics, and that it might be over-
rated, is it all just putting on a show? I threw in some humour
and the two minute bell rung, I had made time! Yay! ( but
seriously no surprise!!) The hard part was over and we all
relaxed, it was over… almost.
After many other speeches, not nearly as entertaining as
mine, the adjudicators left the room and the choir began to
play , which eased the tension while we waited for the
EXTREMELY slow adjudicators to reveal their decision.
When they walked into the room, we all sat upright and the
announcement was made….
THE WINNER IS…..
I clapped and cheered ( but really my heart wasn’t in it). The
general consensus was that l was in the top-three but
unfortunately no ‘Runner-Up’ prizes were given.
I would like to thank Mrs Hunter, for organising public
speaking and her invaluable support and advice, Cheryl
Hallinen for coaching, my support crew in Sydney including
friends and family, Amanda McCrabb for speech editing and
I would like to thank Mum and Dad for driving me
everywhere! I had heaps of fun representing the WHOLE

THIS WEEK’S THINKING TASK for students in K-2 was to write a recount of the
Echuca excursion……
We all got on the bus and went to Billabong
Ranch. When we got there we played mini
golf. There was a swirly-whirly one and the
last one had a VW car to hit your ball into.
We went to the animal nursery. We saw a
bird called Sally, some puppies, a donkey, a
cow with a baby calf, some ducklings, guinea
pigs, tiny kittens, a turtle and a lizard.
We went on a carriage pulled by two
beautiful, big Clydesdale horses. We saw
some pregnant horses. Paraya took a photo
while he was in the carriage.
We had our morning tea. Peta’s mum made us
all cupcakes.
Then we all got back on the bus. We went
over the big bridge and got off at Squiggles
in Moama.
We had our lunch first, and then played on
the Adventure Playground.
Then we got into our swimmers and went into
the wet play area. We loved when the bucket
filled with water tipped all over us! We liked
the dinosaurs and the volcano spraying water.
We dried off on the jumping pillow and then
we played in the helicopter and in the indoor
play house. It was great fun!
We packed up and we got back on the bus and
came back to school and went home.

Last Friday the Kinders, Ones and Twos along with teachers and parents, went to Echuca for an excursion. First, we went to Billabong Ranch. We got to go on a horse and cart. We looked at the animals on the farm and we played mini golf. Next, we got on the bus and went to Squiggles. We got to play on the indoor playground, the outdoor play-ground and the water park. At the end of the day we got back on the bus and drove back to school. It was a great day! Joint Construction By K/1W
LAST WEEK’S THINKING TASK for students in 1/2R was…… to make
a zoo animal’s dreams come true.
At the zoo, Hannah and I went to the giraffe
enclosure. I said to Hannah, “Did you just hear that
giraffe speaking?”
“No!” said Hannah. “What did it say?”
“It said..I would like to be a high jumper.”...
Excerpt by Chloe Paton
I went to the zoo with bella for my birthday. We went
past a lion. The lion whispered, “Hey! Come closer
girls!”…
Excerpt by Sophie Willis
I was at the zoo with Kira. We went passed the ele-
phants and one of the elephants said, ”I want to be a
famous car wash!”...
Excerpt by Sophie Murray
If I was an animal, my friends would come and watch
me at the zoo and I would love it. They would like me
and I would talk to them...
Excerpt By Sam Dudley
I can see a leopard doing a triple-dipple backflip and
yelling, “unlock the triple-dipple lock off the three
doors and let me out of this place!”...
Excerpt By Lachlan Hillier
MORE COOL IDEAS
The turtle said to me,”My dream is to go back to the
sea and see my mum and dad.”…
Bella Lewis
I was walking past a lion. He said to me, “I want to
drive a car and do the conga.”…
Olivia Manzin
..We walked past the hippopotamus. It said, “ I hate
the zoo keeper. I’m too clean for the female
hippos.”...LATER...I see the hippopotamus in the swamp
kissing a female hippo.
Will King
..The elephant said, “I want to eat Mr Hogan!”
Eliza Auldist
When I walked to the cheetah cage it talked to me. It
said, “I want to drive a bus!”
Shaianne Schwartzkopff
We saw an elephant and it said, ”I want o be a movie
star and be able to crash into lots of museums.”
Kira Dickie
“Um..Um..I want to be a cow!” said the elephant quietly
and excitedly…..LATER….So we bought some lead ropes
and some collars. We put some cow skin over the
elephants and led them back to the farm, and they all
said, “Moo! Moo!”
