August 28th, Rat Bastards Car Show at XXX in Issaquah. What a great turn out for the Demonos. We all met at McDonalds in Puyallup and headed up SR167 to Highway 18. At Covington we picked up Tony Holdren and continued to Issaquah. The Rat Bastards had a section already for us as well pulled in. Thanks to all the guys and wife’s who attended this event. The weather was off and on all day, but it didn’t rain. Those in attendance were; Joe Shanks, Paul Kuchenmeister, Bob MacConnell, Bill Wolfe, Stan Thompson, Len Morrison, Ken Thompson, Jerry Hasard, Dave Starcher, Bary Crites, Ken Call and Tony Holdren.

Two of the Roadmen were lucky recipients of awards at this years event. Congrats to both of you.

The Pinup Angels were on hand for photo ops and handing out awards. Some of us took advantage of these handsome ladies to have them pose around our cars. The best one of the day was our own Bary Crites who took home the “Land Shark” Award (not to be confused with “Land Yacht”) for his dorsal fin on top of the carburetor. Super Congrats.

There were several clubs in attendance this year.Beggars, Steeds, Rat Bastards, Camwinders, Dam Slicks,Roadmen, and of course the Demonos.

Also in September was the Run to the End of the World in Long Beach Washington. Paul, Len, Stan, Fred and Gary were hanging around the car show and lined the streets to watch all the posers cruise.

I don't know if any of you guys know Larry Foss from the Harbor but this is his car and he and his wife were hit at the "END OF THE WORLD RUN " Larry is still in the hospital with a broken pelvis in two places, broken ribs. His wife was treated and released. Take a look at his car and I say he's lucky to be alive, drive safe fellows. Rick Nelsen.

A car crash on the Astoria Bridge Sunday afternoon left three people injured and closed the bridge to all traffic for more than an hour.

At about 2:40 p.m., Astoria police, Oregon State Police and the Astoria Fire Department responded to a two-car crash on the Astoria Bridge.

Harry Anderson, 50, of Rainier, was driving a white Ford Expedition south across the bridge toward Astoria when he crossed the center line and hit a northbound black Ford coupe partially head-on.

Anderson said he went into oncoming traffic because he saw "black tape" on his windshield and temporarily couldn't see, according to the OSP report.

Larry Michael Foss, 61, of Montesano, Wash., was driving the Ford coupe. He and his passenger, Janice Irene Foss, 68, also of Montesano, and Anderson's passenger, Jaime L. Sumpter, 30, of Rainier, were transported by Medix Ambulance to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria with injuries.

As of Monday morning, the hospital reported that Sumpter and Janice Foss had both been released. Larry Foss was transferred to the intensive care unit, but was in stable condition.OSP cited Anderson, who had no injuries, for failure to drive within his lane.

The bridge was closed to all traffic from 2:40 until about 4:20 Sunday, according to Astoria police. OSP handled the case and were assisted by Astoria police.

OCEAN PARK - Tame weather, nearly 800 classic cars and star-studded musical appearances had the Peninsula hopping with visitors from far and wide who made the trek to Ocean Park for the Beach Barons' 27th annual Rod Run to the End of the World.Rod Run Show Chairman Dennis Farmer says this year's event brought in around 750 participants, which is a little less than years prior."We figured it was the economy, but they missed a beautiful day Saturday," Farmer explains. "It was a very, very successful show. We had more spectators Saturday than ever before, we probably had about 8,000 people. Everybody loved Buddy Holly, Elvis, Merle Haggard and John Denver. They just had the crowd. Usually by 3 p.m. on Saturday, everyone's leaving the field. But there were 1,000 to 1,500 sticking around to watch the entertainment.”The Army also attended the show to award military medals to the family of Delmar King, a veteran who was killed in action near New Guinea during WWII."It was just a well run event, it went real well," says Farmer. "We gave out 130 trophies, we had 200 cars in the poker run, T-shirt sales did tremendous, the salmon dinner went well, great door prizes, it just went real well this year with no problems. We would like to thank everyone in the community that helped, Camp Victory, and Sarah Taylor and the cross country team, who helped with cleanup and serving. The sheriff's department was more than happy about how Rod Run went and the poker run went, Sheriff Didion was extremely helpful.“Sheriff John Didion said, "I'd like to congratulate the Beach Barons Car Club not only for a super show, but also for taking the time to work with us in pre-event planning. The thousands of people who attended had a great time and I'm sure will be back next year. Over the years, the Rod Run has helped fill our hotels, motels, restaurants and businesses. The funds used to help us safely staff the event are generated from hotel/motel taxes. They allow us to reinforce our local officers with trained law enforcement from surrounding counties. It's been a great partnership working with the Beach Barons, the Ocean Park Chamber of Commerce, the city of Long Beach, Long Beach Police Chief Flint Wright, the board of Pacific County Commissioners, the Washington State Patrol and Washington State Fish and Wildlife, and all the other agencies involved."

Harvest swap meet – Jim and Paul went to the swap meet , but really didn’t find anything that interesting. Dave Starcher also showed up looking for parts for his Ford. Getting his engine changed this week, so should be on the road soon.

Sprinker car show – heard from a couple of people that they had about 340 cars this year. Ron McDowell walked the grounds and said there was a lot of good looking cars and trucks, also some dragsters were on display.

Last cruise night Sunrise Village Saturday night – quite a few cars showed up for the last night of cruising at Sunrise Village. A lot of raffle prices were given out along with a BBQ and floor jack. Paul and I were there and afterwards went to Sonic Burger to chow down on some food.
