While working toward your degree, you will have the opportunity to study in one or more areas, depending on the major you choose and the concentration within that major. You may also select a minor area of study, which is a group of courses outside your major field that you can explore in depth.

You will also have many opportunities to travel as part of your studies at Delta State. Travel-study programs range from just a few days, to several weeks, or an entire semester.

COMMERCIAL AvIATIONDelta State University is the only school in Mississippi that offers a Bachelors of Commercial Aviation. Come fly high with DSU as you major in Flight Operations or Aviation Management. Take off from DSU’s very own airport in one of over 20 airplanes, and get a whole new perspective of the Delta.

MuSIC INDuSTRy STuDIESInterested in song writing, recording or music production? The Delta Music Institute boasts three full recording studios and our very own record label —Fighting Okra Records. Come work with Grammy award winning song writer, Tricia Walker, as you learn the ins and outs of the music industry.

GEOSPATIAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIESOur GIT program has made national headlines for its groundbreaking work in what can be described as mapmaking for the 21st Century. The GIT Center has created maps for the FBI, the Secret Service and emergency response maps for disasters throughout the world. OuTDOOR RECREATION LEADERSHIPIf you’re looking for a career that won’t make you sit in an office every day, DSU has the only Outdoor Recreation Leadership program in the state of Mississippi. With classes like White Water Rafting, Mountain Biking and even Skydiving, you will learn wilderness skills and gain confidence in leadership situations.

SCholarShipS anD awarDSDelta State recognizes students through its scholarship and awards program. A scholarship application is required; the priority deadline for submission is December 15 and the secondary deadline is march 1. Scholarships and awards are available for undergraduate study up to the completion of 124 earned hours, summer terms are excluded. Note that annual renewal conditions must be met to maintain all scholarships and awards.

FIRST-TIME FRESHMEN

First-time freshmen who are Mississippi residents may be eligible for the opportunity award or achievement scholarship based on high school cumulative grade point average (CGPA), ACT/SAT score (from a national test prior to enrollment) and financial need. These scholarships and awards, along with state aid, may cover 30–100% of tuition. The minimum requirement for an opportunity award is an 18 ACT and 3.0 CGPA. The minimum requirement for an achievement scholarship is a 25 ACT with a 2.50 CGPA.

OuT-OF-STATE RESIDENTS

Out-of-state residents may be eligible for a scholarship to cover 100% of out-of-state fees. First-time freshmen must score a minimum 18 ACT composite or 860 SAT, writing not included, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better. In addition, freshmen may also be eligible for a recognition award ranging from $500–1,000 per year based on ACT/SAT score and CGPA.

vALEDICTORIAN/SALuTATORIAN

These scholarships are awarded for one year of study immediately following high school graduation; the amounts are $1,000 and $500 respectively.

NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST AND SEMI-FINALIST

These scholarships may be awarded in addition to the opportunity award or achievement scholarship; the total award for these four year scholarships are $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.

HIGHSCHOOLTRANSCRIPTAsk your school counselor to mail your official High School transcript (6 semester transcript for provisional review and final transcript with graduation date).

TESTSCORESEntering freshman should request ACT or SAT scores be sent to Delta State University. Delta State’s college code for the ACT is 002190 and the SAT college code is 1163.

IMMUNIZATIONRECORDSProof of immunization for measles, mumps, and rubella is required of all students, unless exempt because of (1) actual, suspected, pre-planned pregnancy, (2) medical contraindication or (3) birth prior to 1957.
