• Reduce Irritation

– Reducing foot irritation is key, and this is where the seamless design of diabetic socks really comes into play.

– Traditional socks generally have seams, which can rub against your foot. Over time this friction can cause blisters and other sores.

• Sores Heal Faster

– Of course it is virtually impossible to avoid some sort of foot irritation for your entire life, even with the correct footwear!

MORE TIPS FOR HEALTHY DIABETIC FEET

– Wash your feet daily. Make sure you wash your feet at least once every day, preferably twice. Use tepid water and soft soap to avoid drying out your skin.

– Inspect your feet daily. Always inspect your feet, and socks, for any signs of sores or blisters. This is very important if you have a loss of sensation in your feet. If your vision is impaired then you may like to ask for assistance so that you can spot the very first signs of irritation.

– Treat cuts and blisters early. Try to treat your cuts and blisters early. Remember, the sooner you treat yourself, the lower the chance of infection.

– Report infections to your doctor. If your self-treatment isn't working and a cut or blister appears to be infected then report it to your doctor immediately. The sooner these infections are properly treated, the less problematic they will become.

– Groom your toenails carefully. Watch out for sharp edges that can rub against your other toes. And trimmed toenails harbor fewer bacteria!

– Change your footwear regularly. It is a good idea to change your socks and/ or shoes at least once per day. Fresh footwear removes your feet from an environment that could potentially be full of bacteria. You may also like to try some antibacterial shoe spray to really get the germs running scared!
